@monster
I hear you.
I've been to some good, well organized festivals in my day as well. The first few years of Pitchfork in Chicago were excellent, and particularly well curated.

I was more talking about going to a random remote 3rd world location like this for a never heard of festival and putting details like food, shelter, and transportation in the hands of festival organizers in said location. For a seasoned festival goer or a real music fan, there are so many better options. Jazz-fest in New Orleans, Barbados has got one (going on 30-40 years), Montreaux, Newport, Glastonbury (maybe a shit show, I've never been but great bands), Bonnarroo, Coachella, Primavera sound, Lolla, etc. etc...

All of these are multiples cheaper, and have better music. Some are even in beautiful locations.

I'm being a music snob but...Fucking Blink-182?

The Daily Mail Wrote:As a result, social media has exploded overnight with tales of Instagram-filtered terror and disappointment, with beautiful festival-goers arriving on the island to discover half-built tents, their luggage being thrown out of the back of a truck, muggers and thieves laying in wait to steal wallets from trust fund kids, unhelpful staff, and "gourmet cuisine" that turned out to be nothing but ham and cheese sandwiches.

This is appalling.

It should be LYING in wait.

Quote:-the luxury boutique accommodations are literal disaster relief tents with beds in them (even advertised as disaster relief tents on the manufacturer's website. Some sources claim it's the same ones used in the Haiti earthquake disaster.)
-the "private island" is actually Great Exuma, which has a population of several thousand, with the festival taking place on a beach a stone's throw from a major resort
-there was luggage stolen from the camp sites by locals

The pics showed awesome beach cabanas and celebs. And every music festival I've ever been too is really well put together - the logistics and event handling is top notch. There was really no reason for the kids to doubt that the pics were all fakes.

That fun part about this whole schadenfreude, was inability for majority of people to question and look deep into anything. As Zelcorpion has noted and is laughing at is the participant's assumption of that it was going to be grand event. A search on the internet about the event and island in general would lead a person to find it one a fucking small island in the Caribbean that is incapable of supporting the venue or larger number of people there.

On personal note, I used to play a game when living in the Caribbean called, "Find Whitey" as seeing group of white people was rare occurrence. Lucky for me, I was on one of the few islands that has not become tourist trap that have the local develop attitude that white people are prime target to exploit for cash and other goods. Unfortunately for the festival goers, the Bahamas has this same attitude for many people. That what you get when going into a situation blindly with no prep or backup plan.

RE: Rich Kids of Instagram meets Hunger Games - Music #FyreFestival turns into nightmare
After checking out that guy's history and businesses I have to say this.

http://heavy.com/entertainment/2017/04/f...d-ja-rule/

You will see this guy promoted by major TV stations, while in reality he started out in New York by renting town-house and then a penthouse and offering this for users for the flat-fee of 250$ plus drinks in the joints.

[Image: 060714sundayfeatures51cj.jpg?w=300&a...;amp;h=200]

The penthouse cost him 13k a month, but he got more out of all those members.

http://nypost.com/2015/06/28/tech-bro-su...llage-pad/

Then it got more complicated as he tried to use his cash-flow to expand into organizing tickets. Essentially it seems to me like a part-time pyramid scheme, that he tried to pull off with the low-key cash-flow he had.

I think that the event debacle came as a plan to get his finances in order with his Magnises "luxury lifestyle hack". Even then there were troubles he had with cancelled flights, 3 times postponed tickets to events etc.

But it is him in the video so he is actually facing the people. A fraudster would be gone.

Interesting also some Instagram models hired who all disappeared at 9 pm when it became clear that crap was going to happen. Most of the other so-called influencers worked for a free flight and VIP stay at the place, so essentially hardly anyone came when they found out that they had to fly in on their own.

This guy is really nuts - somehow I doubt that it is a scam - he would be gone by now and and not in the Bahamas standing in the middle of the crowd.

What is bordering on a scam is that his previous business models were nuts and based mostly on good connections and the cash-flow he got from the pre-payments and membership fees. He should have stuck with the rented penthouses, local parties and expanded that stuff to other cities - that would have worked. He could have scaled that to the entire country and still made millions.

The rest of his deals were just catch-up with the missing cash-flow.

But to be fair - NYPost wrote about it a few weeks ago:

http://pagesix.com/2017/04/17/are-fyre-f...eir-heads/

Maybe some of their own Millennial workers got scammed as well. I think that the majority of the participants may truly be Millennial wannabes who saved up cash for the "trip of their lifetime".

In my opinion they were always a bunch of unorganized bunch from the very beginning with the CEO being an excellent salesman, but a lousy COO. Also the financial planning was likely off very soon. You cannot promise multi-millionaire lifestyle for 250$/year. You cannot scale that.

The event may have gone fine, if they had 1000 more customers signing up - then they may have been able to pay the right caterers, security, crew - all of which costs solid money since you cannot rely on low-tier locals for much. In the end they did exactly that and used old Haiti tents and a bunch of cheap locals to try and make it work.

But at least - his entrepreneur career should be over. The Wolf of Wallstreet was at least a clever con-artist. That guy is more a fuck-up and no one forgives that.

Well - at least he got laid like gang-busters:

[Image: 060714sundayfeatures54cj.jpg?quality=90&...amp;crop=1]

And if it was a con and he truly got several million out of it (which I doubt somehow), then his career is over. Judging by his lifestyle I doubt that it will last long either way.

A bunch of people get scammed, robbed and raped by human scum and everyone thinks it's hilarious? They deserve it? They're learning a valuable lesson? What the fuck is wrong with everyone?

How is that funny or something to be happy about? You must hate these people if you find it so funny. Why?

Are you jealous you can't get bang these instagram whores? Or jealous of their cash or what? Don't like their choice in music? They probably didn't vote Trump? Not intellectual enough for you? You don't like festivals with rich attractive people? Don't like social media?

What the fuck are you talking about?
Why so bloody anal? Jealous of banging whom? Who among those dweebs is banging the girls there?

First of all - the entire thing would be funny even if you are billionaire heirs, because the entire thing is so bizarre. Doubt that the rape statements came true - just some allusions by Millennials. Yes - there were some trust fund babies there and also some who wanted to be "exclusive".

I have friends and family who would have been prime targets for such an event - even if they could not afford it and lost 1200$ - they will live, this is not the end of the world.

Some of the tweets were just SJW panic who would have wanted to call the national guard. That guy made the best out of it and made fun of the entire experience:

https://twitter.com/DylanACOP

https://thump.vice.com/en_us/article/wha...as-ja-rule

He got interviewed by Vice:

Quote:The second we got off the plane, Instagram models were trying to get us hyped up. We were waiting for a shuttle that was supposed to bring us from the airport to the festival grounds on the beach, but it turned out there were no scheduled shuttles, so we had to take local taxis. Amidst this confusion, the Instagram models were like, "Oh my god guys, you're not excited enough, get pumped! We're like, in the Bahaaaamas!"

Ja Rule with a message:

[Image: 1493411379447-Screen-Shot-2017-04-28-at-...size=623:*]

Quote:When I bought tickets to Fyre, I was going along with the luxury narrative they were selling—I thought I'd find all these rich, young, snobby kids. Sure, the Instagram models and influencers are rich fuckers, but the majority were hard-working people in their late-20s or 30s, who paid with money they'd worked hard to earn at their jobs. I'm 22 years old, and my boys and I are among the youngest people here that I've seen so far.

In the beginning, I thought the festival would be cool and everyone was going to be assholes —but it turned out to be the opposite. Everyone was so genuine and nice, and the people running the festival who fucked us over were the real assholes.

I don't care if they were all wealthy, but it seems that they were just misguided - most of them not too well-off which fits the bill as most of those festivals go.

RE: Rich Kids of Instagram meets Hunger Games - Music #FyreFestival turns into nightmare
The main perp gets interviewed by Rolling Stone:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/featur...ve-w479502

Quote:Today is definitely the toughest day of my life. I'd love the opportunity to go through and tell my story of how we got here and how I see it now and where it's going.

I was a computer programmer, and after computers, the two things I love most are the ocean and, for some reason, rap music. So these three hobbies of mine somehow led me to meeting my partner, Ja Rule. Together, we became friends and business partners. For us, it was always a battle of pushing the limits. Once we got flying lessons together, we got on these really bad 40-year-old planes and flew from New York to the Bahamas – not really knowing the Bahamas very well – ran out of gas and landed in the Exumas and both of us immediately fell in love.

We started this website and launched this festival marketing campaign. Our festival became a real thing and took [on] a life of its own. Our next step was to book the talent and actually make the music festival. We went out excited, and that's when a lot of reality and roadblocks hit.

The Exumas didn't have a really great infrastructure – there wasn't a great way to get guests in here – we were a little bit ambitious. There wasn't water or sewage. It was almost like we tried building a city out of nothing and it took almost all of our personal resources to make this happen, and everything we had, to make this festival go on. We thought we were ready and built two different festival sites.

The morning of the festival, a bad storm came in and took down half of our tents and busted water pipes. Guests started to arrive and the most basic function we take for granted in the U.S., we realized, "Wow, we can't do this." We were on a rush job to fix everything and guests were arriving and that caused check-in to be delayed. We were overwhelmed and just didn't have the foresight to solve all these problems.

We made sure all guests got a place to stay and had a really long conversation overnight last night after everyone was housed about what to do next and realized we couldn't risk the safety challenges. So that was the decision that we made — the first thing for us was making sure all these guests get refunded [and] all the vendors get taken care of. All the guests are going home, the refunds are being processed.

RELATED

Ja Rule on Fyre Festival: 'I'm Heartbroken at This Moment'
"I don't know how everything went so left, but I'm working to make it right by making sure everyone is refunded," rapper tells Rolling Stone
The weather unfortunately delayed flights and made them run into each other in terms of being close to when a lot of people were arriving. That was unfortunately something we had no control of, but it made things unacceptable for guests and we feel bad for it.

We thought we were making timeframes that were correct. We were a little naïve in thinking for the first time we could do this ourselves. Next year, we will definitely start earlier. The reality is, we weren't experienced enough to keep up.

Everybody who wants to go home is being sent home tonight. Some of the guests who are staying in private homes, we're asking them to stay longer, if they can. We're going to take every measure to make this right for everybody now, and make this right for everybody next year, on a large scale.

There will be make-up dates, May 2018 in the U.S., free for everybody who signed up for this festival. We will donate $1.50 [per ticket] to the Bahamian Red Cross. It'll keep the theme of being on water and beach. It'll be not just music, but all forms of entertainment. The one change we will make is we will not try to do it ourselves. We will make sure there is infrastructure in place to support us.

I don't buy his explanation, but if they manage the refunds, then it'S not so bad. Then it comes down to a few stolen wallets, valuables and inconvenient experiences.

Also - no way in hell would a storm destroy all their infrastructure. That is too much of an excuse to blame it on a storm. Such an event should have had an entire army of organized staff out there. They were more nit-wits than con-men.

But it seems as if they are definitely doing their best ot make it up - otherwise their credibility is completely gone.

Quote:Some who helped organize the festival took issue with the "out of our control" portion of the festival's statement. In early March, former Saturday Night Live talent associate Chloe Gordon traveled to the Bahamas to tour the site as a producer hired to work with the talent. "It was about two months out, and it was a mess," she says, adding that she quit after returning to New York. "They had already, when we got down there, hired and fired two full production teams. And they hadn't started planning anything. They basically just fired everyone along the way that told them it wasn't feasible."

I think those blokes take POSITIVE THINKING WAY TOO POSITIVE. When experienced production crews told them that it was not feasible at that site, given the time and the financial constraints, then those morons should have listened. Sometimes you can be a stubborn dickhead when you develop a product that may or may not come and you combat the engineering department like Steve Jobs. But this was not a mars expedition. There are people who can do this well, are experts on it and you are not going to reinvent the wheel.

My post was pretty clear. You must hate these people if you think this is funny or good, what don't you like about them? You mention banging the models, is it something to do with that? I'm sure some of those dweebs probably are banging girls there. Is it the "dweebs" getting robbed what you're happy about?

Then the rest of your post looks like meaningless deflection, speculation, getting off the point and backtracking. So I'll ask you the same question. What the fuck are you talking about?

Edit: and why so bloody anal? I guess I expect better from people here. It doesn't make sense to me why posters here would take such delight in seeing this. That's jealous beta/gamma behaviour. All the nerds who stayed home rationalising that they're smarter and better than all the stupid douchebags at the party in highschool they were never invited to also must be enjoying this. You really want to be in that company? This kind of event is where all the hottest girls are at.
