How is that funny or something to be happy about? You must hate these people if you find it so funny. Why?

Are you jealous you can't get bang these instagram whores? Or jealous of their cash or what? Don't like their choice in music? They probably didn't vote Trump? Not intellectual enough for you? You don't like festivals with rich attractive people? Don't like social media?

How much did you payed for your ticket?

I was one of the ones who bought the top of the line VIP package for $50,000 Blush

The sandwiches were better than pictured here though!

....

Haha. Ok that was the first thing I found funny in this thread.

I am not backtracking anything. I still think it is funny - even if it is dark humor. I am not jealous of anyone there. Now get off and play SJW elsewhere.

The people who were there took it with more humor than you who likely paid the full 49.900$ price-tag for the VIP tent which turned out the same refugee tent:

It looks to me like if someone had a little survivalist/protector game knowledge they would clean up. "It'll be OK baby" type of stuff.

And let's be real, the pissed off bahamians were the guys there to sell drugs. You'd have to work out something with them.

Aloha!

I'm thinking if you're down there with a presentable sailboat, you can graciously get a few girls off the island and basically name your price in ass.

As for the outrage, if somebody was raped or otherwise harmed, that's horrifying. Last I saw, it was just a bunch of hysterical entitlement in a ridiculous "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" situation, not people dying in the Superdome.

A former co-worker dishes out the truth - he is not the only one and credible - I would sue the fuck out of those assholes. And I am sure that some who paid 10k+ will do exactly that.

http://nymag.com/thecut/2017/04/fyre-fes...are-thecut

Quote:I Worked at Fyre Festival. It Was Always Going to Be a Disaster.

Quote:In early March, a friend of mine texted me to ask if I wanted to be a talent producer for the Fyre Festival. I’d never heard of it, but the gig involved going to the Bahamas and being paid extremely well. So I said yes and packed my bags. The festival was supposed to be a luxury music retreat where elite millennials could mingle with “influencers” and models. Tickets cost between $1K and $125K, gourmet food and accommodations were promised. I was planning to spend the next two months working on the festival, but a mere four days after I arrived I was back on a plane to New York because the whole thing, as everyone now knows, was a complete disaster. I was briefly involved in the planning of the event and got a front-row seat to chaos.

Quote:On March 14, I flew from Miami to the island of Great Exuma to get the planning started. I was excited, at least at first. Flying in, the water looked beautiful — but I was almost immediately warned not to go near it because of a rampant shark problem. That was an omen I regrettably missed.

After we landed, we drove to the festival site to assess our goods. When we arrived, my initial reaction was “huh.” This was not a model-filled private cay that was owned by Pablo Escobar. This was a development lot covered in gravel with a few tractors scattered around. There was not enough space to build all the tents and green rooms they would need. There was not a long, beautiful beach populated by swimming pigs. There were, however, a lot of sand flies that left me looking like I had smallpox. Still, I had hope.

My job as a talent producer was to coordinate travel and on-site logistics with the artists who would be performing: Blink 182, Major Lazer, Disclosure, among others, had already signed on. I would be working with an 11-person team and a few of the festival executives. The production team was all new hires and, before we arrived, we were led to believe things had been in motion for a while. But nothing had been done. Festival vendors weren’t in place, no stage had been rented, transportation had not been arranged. Frankly, we were standing on an empty gravel pit and no one had any idea how we were going to build a festival village from scratch.

Pending disaster aside, I started working from an island rental house. I contacted the booked artists’ tour managers to start to coordinate. Almost all of them had the same question for me, which was along the lines of, “Hey … Where’s our money??” { so the shitheads had not paid anything - I severely doubt there will be refunds, but we will see} I tried to email the business manager to get an answer, who said something like “stand by” for three days in a row. By the end of the week it became clear they would not pay the people they owed.

On Wednesday, Ja Rule arrived for a “site visit.” I don’t know if he actually visited the “site” but he did spend a lot of time on a yacht, according to his Instagram. Meanwhile the event planners were holed up indoors putting together a game plan and a budget. With so little having been prepared ahead of time, the official verdict was that it would take $50 million to pull off. Planners also warned that it would be not be up to the standard they had advertised. The best idea, they said, would be to roll everyone’s tickets over to 2018 and start planning for the next year immediately. They had a meeting with the Fyre execs to deliver the news. A guy from the marketing team said, “Let’s just do it and be legends, man.” {That reminds me of typical Dot-Com-lingo and Positive-Thinking-Ueber-Alles idiocy}

At this point it was pretty clear that this was a mess and I shared my concerns with the man I reported to. But he assured me that the Fyre execs were legit, and said some socialite was underwriting the whole thing. The budget was okayed and we were told to carry on with our planning. That night Ja Rule gave a toast. “To living like movie stars, partying like rock stars, and fucking like porn stars.” If Ja Rule is punished for anything perhaps it should be that.

Ja Rule should go fuck off - he is a moron for signing up on this and believing everything that some asshole says to him about "being a legend".

Still, we proceeded. Thursday night we flew to Miami where we would work with a fully functioning internet connection. The artists still hadn’t been paid. It was my job to try and be charming while explaining to tour managers that no, there still was no money or a technical director for the festival. There was, somehow, a secured alcohol sponsor, however. This whole thing was playing out as a hilarious disaster. It was clear to most of us that nothing was going to come together at this rate.

The next day, things really started to fall apart. On Friday, lots of people on the production team got fired. I did not get fired. I did get a phone call that same night that said something along the lines of, “Congratulations, the guys will allow you to continue to work on the festival! For two thirds of what you asked for. And we’re not paying the artists yet.” So with that, I quit. I told the tour managers I had been in contact with that I was going to take myself off the project. And then I flew back to New York and waited eagerly for six weeks to see how Fyre Festival would play out.

Then yesterday, to my dark delight, the rug was pulled out from under them. In the morning headliner and all-around relevant band in 2017 Blink-182 pulled out, citing sub-par production standards. Last night the festival evacuated almost everyone off the island on account of they didn’t have food or tents for anyone (minor details). Today, after a wild night of #fyrefestival terror broadcast on social media, Fyre announced the festival would be indefinitely postponed.

I cannot explain how or why the bros running this festival ignored every warning sign they were given along the way. The writing was on the wall. I saw it firsthand six weeks ago. They overlooked so many very basic things. And baby, they forgot to make me sign an NDA.

Some of the visitors scorned will have powerful daddies. Others will join a class-action lawsuit. This may have serious financial repercussions - refunds are the least of their worries. Also note the budget estimated - 50 mio. $ to transform that crappy part of the island into the exclusive location. It would have been x-times cheaper to rent out a real private Island from a billionaire or an entire resort with a hotel and simply double-book the rooms.

Sure. And laugh all you want, I'm not going to try and censor everyone like an SJW, I was just asking why everyone found it funny.

I just saw a scam so a bunch of people, probably mostly Americans, could get fleeced and probably raped (C'mon let's be real, a lot of hotties would have shown up to this) by criminal lowlives from a poor country without an easy way to escape.

What's with all the hostility anyway? why don't you get off and go back to stating your WWIII and Trump predictions as fact despite being completely wrong about Trump and Brexit in just one year.

It was an interesting news story and thread though. You always put a lot of thought and effort into your contributions here and I think I repped you for your posts in the migrant thread. So no need for the 'SJW' insults for disagreeing with you.

This could set some type of wacky precedent because I'd be willing to bet that no celebrities actually got paid to promote this. I bet they just got offered free travel and tickets to put this on their social media.

The excuses are such a load of candy ass bullshit.

Okay, "a storm wrecked your infrastructure".

So where's all the proper food?

Where's all the booze?

Surely there's entire containers of caviar and champagne sitting in a freight terminal somewhere on the island, right? Because if you want to blame it all on a storm then everything not affected by said storm should be in place and ready to go.

This is the most entertaining part for me when reading about the festival if you have any knowledge of the location this festival was taking place. Its almost the end of tourist season for the Caribbean, hence a lot of locations are up for grabs at reasonable amount of money (after brides).

While its fun to laugh at the overreactions from festival goers, its going to be good lesson for everyone to understand, don't drink the "kool aid" that you trying to sell.

It wasn't a scam -- it is just poorly qualified people attempting to promote a large event after never having attempted a smaller one.

Always know your promoters -- they should have a track record of delivering.

Also, as I said on Twitter

Quote:#Fyrefest Is the Millennials' Woodstock. The Woodstock of the @instagram generation of fake filters and unearned self-importance.

This is what happens when everyone gets a participation trophy.

The AD was low budget. Aside from the hot models and white sand you can tell the glossy video was cheaply and hasty put together.

Ja rule was another red flag and the fact they could not get any big time music names to vouch early for it was also a major red flag.

You can easily maker a better video with some young photog kids, a colorist, and paying some content stratigist at Soho House with some coke to use a drone and a rooftop to make you a better video.

The timeline of the event:

http://www.edmsauce.com/2017/04/28/horri...w-arrests/

According to an anonymous source that Billy McFarland was arrested by Bahama authorities.

Quote:April 28th 2017: EXCLUSIVE CONTENT – A Source Speaking Under Conditions of Anonymity Reveals to EDM Sauce that Billy McFarland was Arrested in The Bahamas; Gives Insight into the Disaster

A source working at the festival revealed to us that Billy McFarland has been taken into custody by the Bahamian Police. This ends the several years of fraud by Mr. McFarland. Charges are expected to be announced in the morning. Fyre Media was truly a glass house empire, whose architects demanded on throwing stones in. The anonymous source also gave us exclusive pictures of the site.

And the mainstream media can suck it - major networks like CNBC and CNN gave that shithead major media time for his Magnises card - even while back then there were already reports piling in that thousands of customers got promised something and then the company cancelled it. This was standard practice of theirs.

http://pagesix.com/2017/04/28/doomed-fyr...o-failure/

Even if it is incompetence - this is criminal negligence:

http://www.edmsauce.com/2017/04/28/fyre-...statement/

Quote:In his humble brag filled, fever dream of an explanation Billy unknowingly explains why Fyre Festival imploded. He claims it was due to the poor infrastructure of the Bahamas. We, on the other hand read that a 26 year old got ambitious, paid models to market a festival that had no grounds in reality, sold tickets before talent was booked, and ultimately found out putting on a destination production is insanely difficult. THEN still tried to make it happen. This is criminal negligence.

Also it could have gotten much worse, but it seems someone had more sense at the airline charter (or they wanted to save cash) - the majority of guests probably were stranded in Miami and were frankly the lucky ones.

This is correctly described as the Woodstock of the Millennial generation where moxy, "positive thinking", social media blasted egos can make work anything and everything.

I would criminally persecute that moron. He should have taken the cash and run, moved to Thailand under a false name, then changed his identity, because no one is going to take anything he says seriously. Also his Magnises card is toast and also his other businesses. They may even persecute him for criminal negligence - Ja Rule also.

This is negligence on epic proportions. The dickhead still claims that next year will be a grand festival. The reality is that even if he invests 50 mio. $ in advance, then it would be a massive loss this time.

[Image: 3FB0364E00000578-0-image-m-15_1493365414202.jpg]

I think that the only ones paid for this crap were the models who must have gotten cash up front to do this.

Refugee camp experience.

The people were somewhat lucky that the airline flew them back. In some cases the passengers are stranded completely and unable to pay an additional fee are left to their own devices.

Quote:Interestingly, McFarland claims he initially created the festival website as a test to see if people were interested, before it “took on a life of its own.”

“We started the website to test the theory that people were interested and it went from there. All of the sudden we had thousands of guests and we started booking talent, and we had a festival on our hands. So we thought, oh wow, we have to go solve all the logistical problems,” McFarland said.

Yeah - it really seems as if the shithead started the site and promo with zero planning. But since the cash kept coming in, he thought - we can do an event in 5 months out of thin air, how tough can it be? WE already made a million from the pre-payments, so what can go wrong?

Quote:Rather than hold the festival at a venue built to support thousands of attendees, McFarland, who has never thrown a large-scale music festival before, says he and his partners decided to take on the ambitious task of building a city from scratch — a project that he says included building a sewage system and shipping an ambulance from New York to the island in anticipation of the festival.

Utterly moronic - also the performers did not come, because they were not paid. They did not cancel because of some mythical storm he came up with.

Quote:One detail not addressed in the Rolling Stone interview was the involvement of former Pepsi spokesperson Kendall Jenner, who joined hundreds of so-called influencers like Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowski in promoting the festival on Instagram.

Now those celebrities have become in part the focus of ire by festival attendees who feel swindled by the so-called “influencer” promotion.

Jenner promoted the festival in a now-deleted Instagram photo, for which she was paid $250,000, according to a Fyre employee with knowledge of the transaction. Jenner did not label the post as an advertisement.

McFarland said only that the company had a confidential deal with Jenner, the details of which he was not aware or at liberty to speak about. Jenner’s rep did not return a request for comment.

I think Miss SJW-Pepsi was the only one getting that kind of money for a shitfest like that.

"the actual site layout may vary"

No shit. They were telling the truth.

Total incompetence when it comes to organizing the event, but at least they have a ballpit. I wonder if it's a coincidence...

Rich Kids of Instagram meets Hunger Games - Music #FyreFestival turns into nightmare
It is not that bad - I think only the night was a bit unsafe, but it does not seem as if gang-rapes were happening. Probably local drug dealers were pissed too since they stocked up on some drugs, but the customers were gone.

It was mostly they themselves who stole various equipment and blankets from other tents.

Thousands got booked and there were hundreds of tents. This is a fiasco of epic proportions, but some made the best of it:

http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/video/lu...d-47089499

That girl was on a bachelorette party and paid 400$ each for a weekend:

There were there for 3 hours until they realized that they would have had to stay in the tent non-stop and defend it against marauders. They left for the airport and were just on weird long trip. There are other men who just lounged around on the sea.

The beach by the way was out of rough stones and people with sandals cut their feet. The entire location thus was not even ready for any festival.

At least the folk thought that it was a funny experience because it was so crappy.

I mean the only people for whom it may have sucked the most would be the ones who spent their entire savings on that, but those were probably very few. And if you are that financially irresponsible, then you would have blasted the money anyway on the next 700$ power-juicer.

This is a good and inevitable thing. These insta-ho "influencers" and the economy around them is exactly the sort of thing I despise. Just a vacuous look-at-me-in-my-yacht-with-thin-girls-in-bikinis culture where they have nothing of value to add.

There is nothing wrong with taking a hard, uncompromising stance against such a culture. As far as we are concerned no-one should be following the likes of Jenner and her friends on Instagram, they should have no fame and no influence.

Personally, I see those people and their culture as my mortal enemy, and I would laugh at any calamity that might befall them.

Statement of Bahamas authorities and local article.

It is a PR nightmare, but one that they cannot push on the FyreFest morons.

The event took place at the same time of the 60yo Georgetown regatta - and most rooms are booked in the season. This is a major inconvenience also for all additional business whenever such a big event is planned.

My take is that probably some local earned a solid amount of cash (for example the one who rented them the crappy useless location) as well as some officials got bribes. They could have easily taken away their permit. All Western countries would have done so if they had inspected the site before the event.

Bit this is rich:

Quote:As if getting one’s head around such matters is not enough, for the promoters to have reportedly enquired if the Georgetown Regatta could be rescheduled lends credence to what Piers Morgan recently described as a US culture of ‘rich, publicity craving, materialistic, talentless, self absorbed, social media fanatics’ who arrogantly believe they can do as they please.

So those morons were really asking the Bahamas to reschedule a 60yo traditional regatta (with some world elite partaking by the way) just because it inconveniences their second rate music festival?

This is the crux of Millennial insanity.

The New Yorker got an account of another NY "interior designer":

At first they got duped and spent hours on the beach before they were driven to the luxury location.

Quote:“In the meantime, everyone’s luggage was still in this huge red shipping container. The mood was getting very hectic, a free-for-all situation; it felt scary. People’s stuff was getting stolen; people were dragging mattresses from tent to tent across the sand. It was just all these white domes, these tents, and in the middle of them there was a huge villa, where all these wealthy white men were hanging out—presumably the organizers. They wouldn’t speak to us. They told one of my friends just to figure it out. They were assholes.

Good that Billy McFarland had a good time. Those guys will be sued to kingdom come. Gross negligence will hit them personally even if their main company goes belly up.

Quote:“So my group of friends and I went into fight-or-flight mode. We dug through the shipping container and found our bags. We tried to find hotels in the area, and we couldn’t: there was a regatta happening simultaneously, so there were no rooms anywhere.

Quote:I know the situation sounds funny to people who are watching it on social media, and I get it. At first, we had the same reaction. But when there’s no correspondence, when it doesn’t seem like Fyre will take any sort of responsibility for their actions, when we don’t know what’s happening to us—it’s not funny anymore.”

Nah - I get it. You are women, this situation while it wasn't actually dangerous felt unsafe and uncertain to you. Men do better in such situations. We saw pics of them hanging out and drinking.

That girl will laugh about the situation later on. She survived the 2017 Fyre Festival.

The most amazing part is that such a bloke got massive promotion by the media early on. They love to put up all those "Whizzkids" out there - the rags to riches stories of the telegenic folk. The reality is that most rags to riches guys are boring, they are busy working, only few of them are bringing the bling and the humblebrag bullshit that this one got.

Not going to engage in class envy. Sucks that so many people got scammed - hopefully everyone that paid will be able to recoup some $$ regardless of the "no refunds" policy
