Before you do any type of diet at all, you should probably go to the doctor and get the full workup. You could start on something and find out you got some disease and make it worse.

You are in Japan, and mention you need to find an English speaking therapist. Is that a good idea? Do you need to be in Japan? If you don't speak Japanese this just seems pretty difficult.

Also, I bet everyone there looks at you funny. That probably leads to some discomfort. Why don't you move to Omaha or st. Louis where there's many other people with your issues, and many more treatment options.

Aloha!

Kona is right and I am surprised no one else said this before he did.

Make sure you are not having some major issues before you start your journey. Get your testosterone levels checked and your overall thyroid/Adrenal gland health. If those things are not in decent shape, you will plateau hard at some point. When you are really big and start losing weight, the loss in numbers are big at first, then you will bottom out, and not lose much more. Even 5 pounds a week will be harder, even if you dropped 50 in the previous 3 weeks, all because of hormones. Don't be that guy that works out 5 times a week and cannot even lose 3 pounds and has zero clue as to why. That shit is so 2005, don't be that guy.

Instead of a long ass post, the TLDR of supplements that can help you in these areas are Optizinc (2% copper), vitamin D, DIM (Diindolylmethane) (bascially powdered broccoli that gets rid of excess estrogen off your stomach area). Get a good multivitamin and if you do weight training, get some amino acids as well.

Anyway, get some bloodwork and a physical first to make sure you don't have something serious so that you don't pass out in the middle of a gym because you had no idea you were diabetic and your blood sugar was too low or something else no one here thought about to tell you.

Whatever you do, do not attempt to use hardcore gym workouts like you are on the Biggest Loser TV Show or attempt Crossfit stuff. That is not only physically dangerous, but if you burnout too fast, you will put all that weight back on quickly. This needs to be more of a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

Keep your head up, you will be just fine. We all have your back.

Zel how much protein did you take? I ask because protein powder has calories, which I know is obvious. Were you taking enough to do 1gram per 1 lb lean muscle?

How was your lifting? Retain strength?

Thanks.

I did not take enough to keep full strength or make gains. My caloric intake with the flaxseeds Omega 3s and protein powder was probably just 200 calories. The hunger wasn't that much of an issue. If I wanted to keep up my strength I would have needed to take much more protein powder. Generally I reached roughly 25-40g which is the intake necessary in order not to lose muscle mass. (I did not experiment with the 1g per lean muscle mass 2lbs (I thinks that 1g per lb is too much) amount since that was not my goal, but you are right that I would have needed that much - for me that is 72-75g and would have come to 270 calories - still would have lost a lot of weight). On the plus side this kind of close to zero caloric intake/water fast is the perfect slacker diet if you are not overly active. You can literally sit in front of the computer or TV and lose weight without effort.

And that is also the goal with this kind of diet and regimen. If you would want to make gains then a one meal per day diet of this Dr. Amen-Ra is advisable. He is very short so his 1200-1300 caloric intake is possible, since close to 100% of his foods are nutrient-dense. If you are much taller like OP, then you can take in more and still lose weight. Dr. Amen-Ra's diet can be kept up for decades, though to be fair it is extreme in our society and most people would not like to eat that way.

By the way - this is also a good vid since he touches known concepts of eating that touch upon the highest possible longevity and health.

RE: Morbidly obese. Desperate for advice on where to start.
Tons of great advice but I'll throw in my 2 cents. I've never been obese but I've been chubby and about 30 lbs overweight. The best I've done is cut 18 lbs in one month.

Buy a Fitbit or any other smart watch. Become religious about getting 10,000 steps a day. Eat a strict 2,000 calories a day. I did around 1,500 but at your size you could probably do 2,500 and still drop weight quickly. I mostly ate chicken, brown rice, and potatoes. I ate two big meals a day so I never felt hungry, you can eat as much chicken and potatoes as you want and still hit your calorie goals.

Tracking calories and steps with my Fitbit became a game for me. If it was bedtime and I was only at 9,500 steps, I would pace around the house just to hit 10,000.

RE: Morbidly obese. Desperate for advice on where to start.
Hey ewsake, I was in your shoes about a year and a half ago. I have posted a couple of times in different threads about my weight loss. Don't get down on yourself, you can lose the weight again. Don't look at losing weight as a task. Its just simply an every day activity like sleeping/eating.

My peak fatness was 317. Now I'm 191. So all I did to jumpstart my weight loss was walk. I fuckin' walk everywhere--in the heat and cold. I walk to the grocery (over a mile away). And I lug the bags back home in a duffel bag. I walk so much, I've been asked by my neighbors if I need a ride. The first few months, all I did was walk--no weights. I got stuck (plateau) a couple of times at a weight (270, 230) -- then I added weight training and walked more. I use the Scooby intermediate program (google it).

As far as food, I use Intermittent Fasting, no candy/soda, eat fish/chicken/veggies, snacks: mostly fruits, occasionally pretzel/popcorn. I cheat about 2-3 times a month with a pizza, burger, and/or steak. I don't drink any alcohol. I use supplements that TravelKai mentioned above except for DIM. I never really tracked calories, just ate better food.

As far as approaching women--even if you're fat do it anyway. Don't get down if you get rejected--every does. Read the Approach and Players threads--take advantage of the forum (WIA, Giovanny, kaotic, Stalin, Linux, Moma/Rudebwoy have helped me). Get out there and talk to everybody-- be friendly! I met my current GF on line at a food truck when I first started losing weight---I must have been 280 at the time.

Good luck with everything.

I'm feeling a lot better...all of this advice is solid gold.

It's only Wednesday afternoon so it's too early for a progress report but if I keep doing what I'm doing, I'll have a nice start to write about next week.

You know another thing that's fucking terrible about being fat? The fat guy walk. I catch myself doing it sometimes, that kind of uneven shuffle where the legs are trying to accommodate the distribution of weight. It's not quite a waddle; I'm not that far gone. But the way I move looks and feels unpleasant. I don't know at what point my walk became a "fat guy walk" instead of a normal guy walk. I'm looking forward to walking normally again, hopefully before year's end.

Intermittent fasting is good only when it comes with fundamental changes of lifestyle. The Biggest Loser intensive crap is just nuts - also I took a look at their diets - most have terrible foods ingested like toast, but they have very little of it. In addition they do incredible amounts of exercise that cannot be upheld by anyone - olympic athletes work out less than they do on the show.

However if you combine intermittent fasts with an entire complete diet change, then they are even healthy for you. But fasting and then afterwards gorging is what does not work - besides most people during a fast or the Biggest Loser diet are woefully lacking of nutrients, so the body simply does not get what it needs to be healthy. In a way they set them up for defeat later on. I would not do a prolonged water fast like the one above without good doses of supplements.

Good companies are NOW FOODS, SWANSON, AWESOMESUPPLEMENTS, YOUNGEVITY - and there the high potency variety.

Stay away from most producers - they have toxic ingredients, artificial toxic sweeteners or non-working doses or forms of nutrients that your body cannot absorb anyway.

Not to steal OP's thunder - but reading this on Monday inspired me to try out intermittent fasting for the week, and I'm in the middle of my third day (taking tomorrow off, probably going to just do this in three-day shifts). I'm stunned that I got used to no dinner so quickly.

Turns out it wasn't being uncomfortable that deterred me, it's just complicated rules that does it. This is simple for me - eat two clean, relatively large meals in an eight-hour window, then just drink water.

Funny enough - the super-healthy former NFL player who later turned MMA fighter Herschel Walker is still looking sharp and strong at over 50:

He is eating one meal per day and this intermittent eating regimen also appealed to me. After a transformation period your body gets used to it and you can even do highly physical activities. Looking at the likes of Walker and the PD Mangan at age 62 you can see that those men are living proof that there is something to the studies:

[Image: P_20160910_181102-e1473564346950.jpg?resize=565%2C496]

So war we only know that 3 things for sure prolong life:

1) Full complete nutrient intake with no shortages

2) Low caloric intake

3) Intermittent fasting best above 14-16 hours / day (easy to do if you simply skip breakfast and sleep 6-8 hours)

Anything else so far is unproven to prolong lifespan.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned to take up sumo wrestling! After all, you're in ground zero for that. As far as I know, the obesity issue seems to be well-accepted amongst that community! I'm sure those dudes have found a niche of girls who are into that lifestyle.

All joking aside, I didn't see anyone mention taking up black coffee drinking. Japan actually has a pretty good coffee culture there (in addition to tea, obviously), especially in Tokyo. If you're into that, I would recommend starting your day with a cup or two of strong-brewed black coffee. The Japanese company Hario makes a lot of interesting brewing equipment like the V60 pour-over brewer and if you search for good local roasters, you're bound to find some good coffee even in the suburbs out there.

A great thing about coffee and caffeine in general is that it tends to stimulate the bowels first thing in the morning to get things moving.
This is never a bad thing when you're trying to lose weight.

Additionally, caffeine is an appetite suppressant, which is self-explanatory. It also accelerates heart rate which gets your metabolism fired up and churning. Not only that, it can help to boost your mood, and help provide you with some pseudo-motivation to do exercise or get out and be more active to achieve your goals. I know it's worked wonders in my life the last 5+ years...especially in terms of motivation/productivity.

As a matter of fact, it's 8:00AM here and I'm having my morning cup of black coffee!

I try to keep it to just one cup, and never after noon. I have enough trouble sleeping as it is. I'm also drinking a shitload of water all throughout the day and green tea too.

So far so good...thanks again for all the advice!

Advice on where to start?

Eat less and move more. Simple as that.

At 300+ simply skipping a meal a day and going for a walk will net you some serious weight loss in a short amount of time.

I know for some people it helps to make a sort of game out of it to keep your mind stimulated - download a tracking app like My fitness pal and be meticulous about entering everything you consume and set caloric boundaries.

As far as finding willpower and motivation - that is a little more nebulous and abstract to give advice on. Being on here and having this thread to hold yourself accountable is a start. One of the best things is to have friends you can surround yourself with who support you, almost like having an AA sponser who can hang out with you when you're feeling urges and motivate you to stay on the path.

Thread for that here: https://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-12879.html

#2 is the single hardest red pill for the modern man to swallow.
You will even see veterans on this very board defend porn and masturbation to the death.

It took me years upon years to give these up (still a work in progress), right now I am on Day 130 (Completed: 129!) zero porn and zero masturbation.
Have no intention of giving up.

The greatest benefits I have noticed from this is that:
1) I can workout 5 to 6 days a week, 1 to 2 times a day without becoming overtrained.
If I workout everyday, then I feel overtrained.
(Morning: Yoga/Heavy Bag/Weights, Afternoon: Jiu Jitsu)
2) Rarely get sick from Cold or Flu
3) Staying Lean is significantly easier, all food seems to just go straight to Muscle
4) Only need 6 hours of sleep a night

On the flipside, when I was Fapping everything was the opposite
1) Could only workout 4 days a week once a day, 5 days I would feel overtrained.
2) Got Cold and Flu frequently
3) Very easy to get Fat, food preferred to store as Bodyfat
4) Needed 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night

It is very night and day, do not hamster yourselves that porn and masturbation is OK for a man

I remember my first experience being hungry. I was traveling with a family in a third-world country. We kept moving forward, never stopping to eat. I asked if anyone else was hungry. They all were, they said. So I just assumed that out next step would be to stop and eat. I had this implicit assumption that when you're hungry, you stop what you're doing and eat. An alternative had never occurred to me.

ElFlaco, for this thread, your name is like a taunt.

RE: Morbidly obese. Desperate for advice on where to start.
Hello gentlemen.

I'm checking in after one week. This morning's weigh in was 298.4 lbs, so it's down about 8 lbs from last Monday, which seems like a good start. I know from experience not to get my hopes up so fast, cause it always goes down a lot the first week. Getting it to continue to go down and not right back up is the real challenge.

Monday through Friday was pretty good. I ate NO carbs except oatmeal in the morning, and only eggs, chicken, and vegetables the rest of the day. Lots of water and green tea too.

I lifted a few times but found I was really weak and had no energy due to the calorie deficit. I got walking and biking in for cardio.

Saturday was also good, but that's where the danger crept in cause I had no work that day and therefore no "routine," and with too much free time I couldn't keep my mind off food. But I lifted and tried to distract myself.

Sunday was the worst though. I was hungry all day and just fantasizing about carbs. I broke down and ate bread. I immediately regretted it, but it was too late, so I just decided to not let it derail me and just get back on track Monday.

It sucks cause it really is like a drug addiction. I can only take it one day at a time. If I think too far ahead it's very discouraging, so I'm telling myself over and over to just stick with it and not fuck up.

Today was Monday, back to the routine, so it's been better so far.

I also picked up apple cider vinegar today, so I'm gonna add that too. Supposedly it's good for heartburn too, so that'll be an added benefit.

Thanks again guys, and I'll keep you posted.

Besides getting more active on a daily basis and eating whole natural foods, you really have to ask yourself where you want to be physically in 1-2 years. Are you only looking to be a healthy weight? Or do you want to get into bodybuilding/powerlifting? Get into boxing/martial arts/etc? How much effort your transformation will involve on your part really depends how far you want to take this. This way you can tailor your efforts so that they minimize the amount of time you spend to achieve maximum results the fastest.

If you are going low carb / keto, your initial weight loss will be mostly water. This is because your liver is excreting its glucose reserves (which are bound in the liver with water). Don't be discouraged if your weight loss suddenly slows down. After water weight loss, my max weight loss was 1.4 lbs per week (with about a 30% calorie deficit and about 35 net carbs per day).

Hit the Keto thread if you haven't already. It will provide you with some additional info on the whole process.

Yeah, I realize that if we could all lose 8 pounds a week, every week, there'd be no fat people. I know it's going to be a long, slow process to get back to a remotely acceptable size, and that sucks, but I did it to myself. Now I need to undo it.

I was always big...had flab around my guts and moobs, but I didn't start getting really fat until after college. I've been fat for half my life and I guess I resigned myself to it. I never thought about bodybuilding or really putting on muscle mass cause I just never thought it was possible.

The most important thing for me now is to just be a normal size. I don't care if I'm never jacked. I want to wear an L size t shirt again. If I lose all the weight, I'll probably have repulsive loose skin hanging all over, which I don't even want to think about. For now I just want to burn the fat.
