Anyone here into the Blues?
A recent free-up of schedule in my life is allowing me time to get back into old hobbies. Used to be a blues player occasionally in several piano bars before my current job, finding it again is like discovering a great gift just waiting to be re-opened.

Anyone here play or trying to learn how to play? Any SRV fans?

Yep, I'm an SRV fan. Not just for the guitar but also for being one of my favourite singers of all time.

Been learning how to play harmonica and the blues is where that instrument shines the most.
I never liked it before but now it's the majority of what I listen too.

RE: Anyone here into the Blues?
This is my kind of thread. I love the blues. Especially the delta blues. Some of my favorites are Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie Mctell. It can sound a little archaic to the modern ear, and maybe a little slow or boring because we are so use to the pornography of sound that is modern music. But no, that is the real shit there.

Oh, my yes. Rock n Roll's granddaddy. People don't realize how fuckin sexy The Blues is.

Been on a Delta/Boogie-Woogie/New Orleans kick for oh, a year now. Dusted off my guitar last night and played a few licks, now I need the motivation to do the same with my piano. Being a Texas boy, of course I love Stevie Ray, but there's so much more than him.

What's appalling is there hasn't been one track shared yet in this thread. Some goodies:

"Make a little music everyday 'til you die"

Picked up the ukulele about six weeks ago. Got into SRV three weeks ago. Also came across this vid. I'll be watching Willie K live next Tuesday in Honolulu:

A lot of SRV songs are covers, enjoy the original from Larry Davis:

My favorite artists would be Joe Bonamassa, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Walter Trout and some Whitesnake songs surely fit the "blues".

B.B King and ZZ Top are my favorites. Three O'Clock Blues was one of the cooler songs I learned to play on the guitar.

RE: Anyone here into the Blues?
Yes, a lot of blues artists.

Howlin' Wolf would be number one though, especially his early recordings. Robert Johnson right after. Albert King nipping at their heels. Hendrix for the "newer" guys.

RE: Anyone here into the Blues?
John Lee Hooker, the Boogieman...To me the thinking man's blues player. Deep metaphysical blues with songs like Driftin' Blues, "I'm drifting and drifting, like a ship out on the sea" or Burning Hell. "Ain't no Heaven, ain't no burning hell. When I die where I go, no one can tell."
His early work is jaw dropping good.

Sorry, meant to say Muddy Waters is the best for me, not Wolf.

Amazing how many qualities we all have in common on this board.
I'm a huge SRV fan as well, I play Blues on the Chromatic Harmonica (Chromonica) and also on guitar.

I have an old acoustic that I play a couple of licks on. This was the first blues song I ever heard:

Then I found this guy and the blues has been my favorite genre ever since:

Billy Gibbons is my favorite guitarist, here is newer song from ZZtop:

Love this song, Two of my favorite musicians:

Just found a new one. It's nice. Not sure if its a cover or an original, but leaning towards the latter.
