Floyd is hard as nails. The idea that you can spar thousands of rounds with killers, as well as get in the ring under the lights 49 times with bad dudes and still be some soft 'silver spoon' guy is ridiculous. Mayweather's gym is notoriously rough, and pulls in some seriously bad hombres. Also, the idea that you can grow up soft with Floyd Sr. and Uncle Roger as your two main influences is laughable.

No boxer is used to taking that kind of punishment.

Okay so if we talk about elbows, knees, etc., do you think McGregor beats Buakaw, Saenchai, or Yodsaenklai in Thai? Don't make me laugh.

Don't laugh then. I never even remotely suggested McGregor could be a muay thai champ.

Im trying to place bets on this fight but I am so confused as to the statistics ratio and how to do so.

I tried googling it but couldnt really find anything.

If anyone has some guidance about stats and ratios and especially for Canadian betting websites please let me know.

MMA is practically a middle class sport. Throw in the amount of time you spend cuddling during training, and the amount of punishment you have to take as an MMA fighter is hugely less than most amateur boxers endure week in, week out, up and down the country.

Connor is a good fighter, and a tough guy, but anyone who thinks he has this mystical MMA toughness that boxers don't have is dreaming.

Respectfully, this is only true for the casual/amateur level fighters. MMA fighters at the highest level are still recruited/a by product of individual disciplines. I.E: Specialised kick boxers, Specialised karateka's, Specialised wrestlers, Specialised judoka's, Specialised BJJ players. Those who train a well rounded MMA game from a young age will always be, IMO less dangerous as a fighter.

Re: The toughest. Yeah. It's a non-issue. Once you're in the ring/cage - You're tough, and only going down when you're physically forced to... Being able to take a knee has no bearing on being able to take a punch. If a punch rocks you, it rocks you. In fact, if a fighter had taken a bunch of knees and head kicks, their chin would be weaker.

I also think boxers do take more punishment during the week, but IMO it's because the sport is stone age in their methodology. They still do a lot of things in training, not because it's best, but because that's what they've always done.

Hours of pad work with combinations they'll never throw, excess sparring making them punch drunk long before they should be, doing 10 mile runs training an energy system they'll never reach in a fight etc.

Mayweather won't voluntarily take a dive. His undefeated record is worth too much. People hate him, and want him to lose. They will continue to pay until it happens. Mayweather will win, and probably come out of retirement in 1-2 years and make another 100-200 million.

There's only one way Mayweather would take a dive : if a powerful mafioso politely ask him :
"Floyd, we would like you to go down in round 2. We will bet a lot of money on that outcome. It's in your best interest, and in the interest of your family, if you go down in round 2".

But this is not Pulp Fiction, so it won’t happen.

Its official, NSAC has approved of both fighters request to go down to wearing 8 oz gloves instead of 10 oz. Referee for the fight will be Robert Byrd, and the judges are Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Guido Cavalleri.

Floyd's ego likely just got him knocked out.

McGregor baited him into that beautifully.

Is this why the line has moved down to -450? My guess is that this was just another ploy by both camps to increase interest in the fight due to sluggish PPV sales, but I'll take the more advantageous odds happily.

Floyd has fought 46 of 49 fights with 8oz gloves. Some of those guys could really bang - much more so than McGregor.

You're essentially trolling by this point, and I'm not sure what your reasons are.

Thoughts on what the odds will be on the night of or even as the fight begins (e.g. through bet365 live betting)? I recall Trump's odds falling to as low as 10 to 1 as the first results came in. Will we see something similar as McGregor starts landing shots that look good but don't count for anything?

I think this fight should only take place after they each down half a bottle of Irish whiskey. Much more...unpredictable.

Smart money is on Floyd, so if the line is -400 right now, it should likely move back up once big money flows in from the sharps. My guess, back to -600 right before fight time, unless some crazy Irish/Anti-Mayweather camp comes in and starts collectively betting 8 figures.

Can you even make bets once the match starts? I know they have continuous betting in things like basketball/football because of halves and quarters, but I didn't think you could do this with boxing. Learn something new everyday.

Yup, I once drunk live bet during an entire UFC match. Thankfully I ended the night up 20 because that could've ended very poorly.

I'm doing the same, driving in from SoCal tomorrow. I'll probably hit up Southpoint (first legit sportsbook on my drive), Westgate (biggest) and then the sportsbook at my hotel. Still haven't figured out a way to find out what the lines are at the different books online, but I think they have an app you can download in state that's Nevada specific.

The man's a freak.

Fighting with his left arm down like that is just so bizarre. Watching him move, it's as if he's on fast forward.

And what I notice about him is that he doesn't get greedy. One and done for the most part.

Not knowing much about boxing, when I watch that video, what is striking is how much Mayweather looks like a scared cartoon character running away. It is almost like he is making fun of the masculine image of a boxer.

It looks like he is flinching, and spazzing out, not boxing really, just trying to get away from conflict, more like a running back than a lineman, and what is funny is that after a guy has missed him a bunch of times, you can see Mayweather make eye contact with them and shake his head as if to say:

Why bother? You will never hit me.

So, he does that a bunch of times, and then he starts counter punching guys as their fists fly by his head, and it plays out like a cartoon where the road runner doesn't just get away from the coyote, but pecks him to death.

I can only imagine how frustrating and emasculating it must be for his opponents to be beaten by someone like that.

Less like he is winning a match, and more like he has hacked the rules of boxing, and is being chased around the ring by real boxers who are pissed and can't do anything about it.

Very compelling.

“That sig BTW is a very asinine anti-family anti-parent quote. You live in a country where 40% of children grow up without a biological father, yet somehow “the greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents”? Sorry but this is fruity Boomer nonsense.”

Looking at the video, not sure if running away is a fair characterisation. First of all, to dodge fists at that speed, with your entire upper body, is incredibly difficult. It actually reminds me of Ali's best moments.

To remain cool on the ropes, when faced with a barrage like this, is also no small feat. Then to squeeze in counter-punches, right in the middle of another guys combo – it's impressive.
