BBC gender pay gap leads to revolt from its female employees
So the organisation that is more likely than any other to report on gender pay gaps with zero nuance (e.g. engineers vs care workers) has been caught red faced with paying its female newsreaders practically a half or a third of their male counterparts on the same show. Fancy that! This was due to the government forcing them to publish a list of all employees on more than £150,000 paid directly from the BBC.

For example, Emily Maitlis, the news presenter, Sarah Montague, the presenter of the Today programme on Radio 4, and Louise Minchin, who presents BBC Breakfast, earn £150,000 a year or less, according to the disclosure. This is despite their co-presenters on BBC shows making the list, including John Humphrys, who presents Today and Mastermind and was paid £600,000–£649,999.

Today it's been reported there is now a "Revolt of the BBC women", and that's on their own BBC website.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40696402

I don't watch TV because of the BBC's archaic tax license system where you need to pay them £145 per year just for having a TV - even if you don't watch the BBC ! It's not that much money to me but I take a stand on principle. However, suffice to say this is a taxpayer funded organisation that is carrying out the very discrimination they normally try to pin on the private sector where people are more free to run business as they like and where it's much more complicated than in this case. A guy called Chris Evans who most people seem to hate is on £2.2m - this is where your license tax is going !

Director of the BBC Lord Hall "will of course meet individuals to hear their thoughts. We are committing to closing it by 2020 - something no other organisation has committed to doing."

He also added, "The BBC's workforce has been hired over generations and this is complex and cannot be done overnight."

BBC director of radio and education James Purnell said male presenters could take pay cuts.

I'm sure this will go down well.

Gary Lineker's agent says BBC pay gap may be caused by women using female agents. Note Gary Lineker was a successful England World Cup player who is now 2nd highest paid on BBC.

Get out your popcorn gifs...

This will be in the news for many weeks to come.

RE: BBC gender pay gap leads to revolt from its female employees
Setting aside the fact that this is the BBC and it is our money either directly or indirectly paying for this I can sympathise with the BBC in justifying the gap. Bigger personalities will attract a higher pay packet and I'm sure viewing figures on shows or multiple shows has a direct influence than simply screen time. Many of the bigger personalities are going to be men as well as hosts of the most popular shows again are also going to be men, being funnier etc. So the gap is probably actually nil when you account for variations. Still doesn't warrant such an inflated pay packet and that is what people are angry about. Not the "pay gap" but the sheer size of pay.

It takes more than 15,121 households license fee to pay for Christ Evens who's only regular thing is hosting a radio show in the morning. As well as a further 12,371 households for Gary Lineker. Those two individuals pay require a town the size of York just to pay 2 members of staff, that is before any costs of programming. Haven't the BBC been complaining about "lack of funding" despite paying for all this bullshit. Their idea of fixing the "lack of funding" is by increasing the fee that we all have to pay. That is pretty disgusting fact right there.

There is a glorious irony that an organisations who preach the feminist dogma have been caught out by the pay gap. I've heard reports that some of the (by my own opinion) overpaid women are seeking legal advice to raise there pay to match the men. Public are not happy about this and would prefer that pay levels would be lowered across the board. Hell if we are paying for it then by right we surely should have a say on what levels are appropriate. The exaggerated pay has been going on for a number of years and the general public have been well aware of it.

It would be interesting to see the pay levels at rival TV stations but they have no legal requirement to release pay yet. All publicly funded companies are required to reveal a list of staff who are earning more than the Prime Minister so it is not exclusive to the BBC. This includes NHS personnel too, which their are plenty of unnecessary managers there sucking up funds as well as many other organisations. So a problem wide spread in almost all publicly funded organisations.

Hilarious.

So if these presenters are free agents who negotiate contracts privately then how, precisely, are you supposed to police pay gaps?

What happens if Sally Derp-a-derp wanders in and Derp-a-derps her way to 100k pounds a year with no benefits? Does everyone end up on the Derp-a-derp pay scale?

Hard to see female t.v personalities who are making over £150K a year as victims. Of course the British intellectual types who get hyped up over this stuff are such in a bubble, that they genuinely believe that this is a cause needing to be fought for.

Gary Lineker hosts Match of the Day, probably the only programme worth watching on the BBC and it is viewed by half of the men in the country. Who is Sarah Montague, never heard of her.

It is funny to watch however, knowing that the BBC is essentially Marxism central. It is just the snake eating their own tail.

RE: BBC gender pay gap leads to revolt from its female employees
Women cut their own necks as they routinely are bad with salary negotiations and low all themselves. I've learned from older men to always shoot high, blast up that number and you either get it, get close, or get a compromise. Women never do this instead they look to bot rock the boat and literally, literally, simply are happy with the amount of Money that can maintain their lifestyle of consumption and travel. Also, women push for more benefits and perks and many times want more days off and such. Feminists say this is due to kids but regular girls with no kids do it all the time. Women are sharp as a blade at finding jobs with good benefits which is why union Govt jobs is packed fill of females.

The employer has no obligation to pay you what "you're worth" you have to make this known with the value you bring you your job and you must be vocal about it. Women are timid and shy and it is more biology versus some gift social construct thing. The irony is that when women rub their own business they routinely are cheap and pay very shity wages.

So circling back to the BBC, what will they do now? If this is like Canada then likely top level workers in a Govt setting are not part of the Union environment perse and each have contracts made on a case by case basis. The likely outcome is that the BBC will have to pay all these woke the same to keep things quiet but this can and will get costly.

RE: BBC gender pay gap leads to revolt from its female employees
Sometimes people do get more than others for doing the same job. Companies sometimes have to pay a premium to attract people. I found out that I was paid 10% more than a female colleague for the same role. If I was paid the same as her I would never have joined because it would have been a pay cut from my previous job.

There's plenty of academic papers out there about women not being good at negotiating contracts - the thing is, did these female presenters negotiate their own contracts? I'm thinking it's more likely that they don't have good agents

Gary Lineker is actually being paid below market rate. He could easily double or even triple his salary by going to Sky, ITV or BT. He's already wealthy from his playing career so he's just showing his loyalty here.

Women presenters are not as popular male presenters in the UK. Cilla Black was a big deal in the 80s and 90s, but she's been dead for a few years. The biggest presenters in the UK now are all male - Ant n Dec, Graham Norton, Jeremy Clarkson, Gary Lineker, Chris Evans, Bruce Forsyth etc.

If these women were replaced, would anybody give a shit? Claudia Winkleman is so bad I stopped watching the Film show she presents. Before it was presented solely by men - Barry Norman, and then Jonathan Ross. Caludia has other people on her show helping her with reviews, whereas before it was a 1 man operation.

I expect to see some of the higher paid male staff bail on the BBC, and for the women to get pay rises.

Women get paid more in porn. Male porn stars make jack, unless they're really well known (like Lexington Steel or Mandingo) or are producers.

I proudly told the licensing authority I didn't have a TV and proceeded to watch freeview.

I find it ironic that when they discuss news from the BBC they don't call it, "state run media" yet have the audacity to do the same for other regimes around the world.

I dont know about you guys but I tend to zone out sometimes when I hear a woman talking/presenting on tv, especially important things like news, current affairs etc. I find older men with deep voices to be the most compelling.
