Is there a word for the feeling you get when you instantly regret a good deed based on finding out what the person you're doing it for is really like?

For real. I mean, $15 is no big deal. Me spending a little time to help him out was no big deal and I was happy to do it, but damn. Not even an offer to reimburse me or a 6 pack of beer? Nada. That's just not the way you do things. He must really be swimming in the mayonnaise when it comes to social interactions or.... He really thinks I broke his mailbox. lol. Bygones.

Not to turn this into the negativity lounge, but I have been selling stuff to a guy I work with for less money than it's worth just to be nice and because it is more trouble to put on Craigslist than it is to take the L.

I just heard from a mutual friend that the guy is bragging about it, spinning it like he is tricking me into selling stuff for cheap because he is so clever.

Sad! Maybe the ultimate positivity is not knowing what other people think.

Yeah, I think he thinks you hit it yourself.

Now I suppose your only course of action is to put some scorpions, or a bullet, in there.

These days are just awesome. On weekend I was at the firing range. This week I got extra one day off, so there are only 3 work days remaining. On weekend my friend is having wedding and also there´s folk festival in place, where I´ve grown up (traditional costumes, folk music and a lot of alcohol). And on monday I am going on adventurous trip to Balkan. Today I´ve decided which countries I am going to visit and they are going to be 6. I can´t think of anything else than this trip.

Aloha indeed.

I was thinking it'd be funny to disassemble it, then lay it on his doorstep with the receipt after I hand draw a map to the hardware store on it. lol. Just kidding, of course.

Been working like crazy as I was bombarded with mundane university assignments, for the past week I worked 10+ hours a day with minimal sleep and felt like total crap, finally I finished all of them and am now on my way to a festival to work for 6 days, I can't wait to finally get paid, it's been a while

Today I felt a surge of pride: I was driving my seventeen year old daughter and her friend and I overheard her explain to him why modern feminism just causes trouble. She explained it as a movement that started out campaigning for equality and when they got that, they didn't know what to do with the movement and now modern feminism is campaigning for the superiority of women. In a few quick sentences she debunked the wage gap and the so called "pink tax". My daughter is young, smart and she calls out modern feminism on its BS. I just listened to her talking and it filled me with hope for the future.

Take care

Do ya'll remember this post?

Something really weird has happened. I mean, like scary movie “weird.” Last Sunday I fixed my neighbor’s mailbox. It had broken loose from a weld and I had to go to the hardware store to pick up some shit to repair it with. He had a pair of 1/4” hex head bolts that weren’t threaded the whole way, just the first 1/2” and I wanted ones that were completely threaded. I bought them and when I got home, they were not in the little baggy, so after looking everywhere for them, I realized I must have left them on the counter when I was using the dude’s drill at Ace Hardware. Instead of going back and getting them, I used the ones my neighbor had by adding several washers to them—no big deal. I never went to get the ones I bought because I didn’t need them, so fuck it.

This morning I come downstairs and those two fucking screws are standing on end on top of my laptop...

My house is very tidy and I don’t have shit just randomly strewn about. Very hard to lose things here. Nor do I make a habit of neatly arranging missing bolts on top of my laptop.

This is one of those moments of foreshadowing in the horror movie when the ghosts are telling you to get out of the fucking house, but you ignore it and die a horrible death in the next 90 minutes.

RE: Positivity / Good News Only Lounge
Quote:A non-religious man in Oakland managed to virtually eliminate neighborhood crime with nothing more than a statue of Buddha bought from a local hardware store.

The neighborhood of 11th Avenue and East 19th Street was formerly a rough part of Oakland, riddled with a variety of illegal activities ranging from littering and vandalization to drug dealing, robberies, prostitution, and assaults. That is until one local, Dan Stevenson, purchased a 60-cm-tall stone statue of Buddha and placed it on the street corner opposite his home. People were constantly dumping mattresses, couches and other junk there, and all kind of shady characters would hang around, so he figured the statue would be an improvement. But, in this case, calling the effect of the statue an improvement would be a gross understatement.

“I would have stuck Christ up there if he would have kept the mattresses off,” Stevenson jokingly told Oakland North. “Except Christ is so controversial with people. Buddha is a neutral dude. ”

Initially, he had merely hoped that the presence of the figure would bring a sense of serenity to the troubled neighborhood, or, at the very least, make people think twice before littering . What Stevenson certainly didn’t expect was the Buddha statue to create a ripple effect that would result in the utter transformation of his neighborhood.

Buddha of Oakland today

First, the littering stopped, much to the delight of most residents, but then something even more remarkable happened – locals started cleaning up the trash that was already there. Drug dealers and prostitutes started migrating away from the area as well, and vandals stopped painting graffiti on walls. Soon, local Vietnamese immigrants in the neighborhood began flocking to the statue, bringing offerings of fruit, garlands, and sticks of incense. Eventually, a neighbor named Vina Vo and her son Cuc Vo approached Stevenson with the request that they could care for the statue, to which he agreed.

First, they built a small platform for the Buddha to sit on and began to maintain the area around him.

“In our religion, Buddha is not supposed to be on the ground,” Cuc Vo told Oakland North.

In time they painted him as well, first just white, but then flesh-colored with a golden robe. The little shrine even has a name plaque that reads “Phap Duyen Tu,” meaning “tranquility.” Every time they want to make a change to the shrine the Vo family approach Stevenson for permission, but he keeps telling them “It’s your Buddha, I’m out of this now.” Nonetheless, he’s always happy to receive a plate of fruit or a Vietnamese delicacy every time he lets them know that they can do whatever they want.

In the time since Stevenson erected the statue, the overall crime rate in the neighborhood had dropped by an incredible 82%. Police statistics showed that between 2012 and 2014 “robbery reports went from 14 to three, aggravated assaults from five to zero, burglaries from eight to four, narcotics from three to zero, and prostitution from three to zero.”

“It’s become this icon for the whole neighborhood,” Dan Stevenson said. “There’s a lot of people that are not Buddhist that really come and just talk in front of him, they walk their dogs, they stand there—it’s a place where people meet and talk. It’s just cool.”

“He’s a popular little guy,” Stevenson continued. “He’s got a Facebook page. He’s got a Twitter account. He’s more connected socially than I am. He’s a great little guy, I guess. But it’s amazing, an amazing thing.”

I have to keep admitting this, but I am not racist in the least. It's a shame that I have to say that, but these days, who knows.

I say that because I shared that story with some friends and got some interesting advice...

The best was (no racist, just being funny): You need to get a black roommate. Black people are always the first to die in this sort of scary movie. If your roommate is killed, then move.

I dunno. I don't believe in ghosts, nor mystics, nor anything like that. I've no supernatural beliefs whatsoever, but this incident really warped my mentality.

This frightened me, big time. But, not because of what you think. I wasn't scared that I was invaded by ghosts or any other thing like that. Obviously, I placed those bolts there and just forgot about it. No one was intruding in my house with a distinct knowledge of hardware that would've been useful 7 days ago.

The frightening thing is: something just happened in my house which I was obviously a part of and I have no recollection of it happening.

No ghosts. No silliness. That would actually be less scary. If i could say some supernatural thingy came to visit, just to fuck with me, that would be easier to accept.

I don't know how old you are, so forgive the presumption if you're an old dude like me.

This will get more common as you get older, I find.

Personally, there's lot of things in my life I just do on "autopilot" - things I've done thousands of times before, and get in the habit of doing. Lock the door, put the milk away, whatever. Most of the time I can't remember that specific occurrence.

Occasionally I'll get paranoid about if I did something, and generally I did. I've learned to trust my autopilot.

That said: It would be much more interesting if it was supernatural.

Yeah, I think you nailed it. After reflecting more about it, these types of things are happening with more frequency the older I get.

The other day I was in a phone conversation with a close friend (had the headset on so I was handsfree) we talked for about 40 minutes. I was deeply focused on what was being said because it was an important topic to my buddy, but during that time I managed to do the dishes, clean the kitchen, sweep the downstairs, and start a load of laundry--all unplanned. It just happened. Like when you're on a long drive and get lost in your thoughts and realize you just drove thirty miles and don't recall any of it.

I suppose I should embrace the "autopilot" as you suggest.

It would be much more interesting if it were something other-worldly...
