RE: Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes - Movie Producers Cry Foul....
Movie studios are producing absolute trash but Rotten Tomatoes is at the apex of leftist propaganda peddling. Any movie with even moderate red pill connotations will be panned whilst films such as 'Girls Night' with receive higher ratings than a cinematic masterpiece.

Rotten Tomatoes is everything wrong with movies today. What the studios don't realise is that Rotten tomatoes is just an extension of the trash they are peddling, cherry picking the apex of said trash to promote. I:E: Whatever ticks the most SJW boxes gets the highest rating.

In all honestly, if Rotten Tomatoes was to wither and die, it would be a step in the right direction. On top of this big studios have too many women in high positions selecting terrible, sub standard, diversity driven, cookie cutter movies to develop.

Contrary to what people say, the cinema would never die, at least not in our lifetime if it was managed correctly... The at home movie experience is a piece of garbage in comparison to the true cinema experience. Especially if you are old enough to have had the chance to enjoy it, during the 90s and earlier.

Most people would prefer to go out and see a quality movie on the big screen, rather than sitting at home like a basement dweller watching Netflix. In the same vein, most men would happily get married in their 20's. Neither are happening. The issue is the product on offer.

The theaters should just show reruns of 80s films.

RE: Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes - Movie Producers Cry Foul....
Its already been said, but pandering to Chinese bullshit is one reason those super mega blockbusters are so, so shit. China limits the number of Western movies into the country so as to not give their people any ideas so Hollywood has a limited number of films it can fuck over. Last year was Independence Day 2 and some others.

China is a growing market afterall and they demand to be entertained.

I have seen 3 movies this year and only 1 I regretted seeing. I know how to spot shit movies from a job I had years ago but the thing is, these days my 60" UltraHD TV with internet access, my PC and some not so legal actions allows me to see things I otherwise might not ay for.

I still buy some DVDs like Train to Busan and John Wick but I buy them out of special interest and not habit. Peoples habits are no longer centred on the movies but more or less the internet and computer games. For reference I have not bought a DVD for a couple of years and my games collection is old - still don't play much these days.

Hollywood is fast running out of time. With mega game Devs and publishers such as Blizzard creating big content releases to the masses over the internet at HD quality with the current generation of consoles and PCs it is within 5 years the next gen consoles will truly have mass appeal through internet connectivity and games or other interactive entertainment.

Real developments to plug into your living room are on course for a lot of $$$ these next few years and beyond. Streaming big box office movies needs to come but they are so afraid of losing control over their precious cinemas that it will inevitably end up like Blockbuster.

It's not rocket surgery. If the Hollywood model is repeatedly losing money, their model needs changing.

This is part of the problem: "Design by Comittee". When the movie's had every sharp edge shaved off to appeal to all demographics, it ultimately appeals to no demographic.

But this is how the game is done. "The chemicals in your brain tell you that they are chemicals, and that's how you know." Ouroborous. Self-affirming prophecy. This is a classic case of somebody needing to think outside the box, but those within the box lacking the grammar to understand what they're saying.

Yes, no question, Danny Boyle's films for example, I watched 28 days later and Sunshine and both were fantastic visually in the cinema but really lost a lot on TV.

While I agree to the sentiments of thread, I do think people trust Rotten Tomatoes too much however. Even though RT is bullshit, given Wonder Woman a damn near perfect score.

Rotten Tomatoes is just one of the effects of the devolution of film criticism, I go with my own opinion about a film.

Film Criticism is not Siskel and Ebert or Leonard Maltin. It's essentially what would happen if Jay Sherman from the TV show called The Critic became a manchild fanboy complete with swearing and mad because the film wasn't accurate to a franchise.

I don't partake at all in reading reviews or opinions or even trailers. I'll go into a movie reading a two sentence explanation.

"MUH ROTTEN TOMATOES!" - Another example of Fake News
This whole Hollywood blame "Muh Rotten Tomatoes" feels exactly like the dims and Hillary Clinton screaming "MUH RUSSIA!!" over the election.

This really makes me wonder just how far the rot in the Big Journalism, Big Tech, and Big Education goes. They are clearly colluding here to blame

"ROTTEN TOMATOES, ROTTEN TOMATOES, ROTTEN TOMATOES!!!"

for their own incompetence to convince someone that they are not to blame for making bad movies that audiences hate, but it's not exactly clear to me who.

Their investors, future government censors, their old professors, their alienated former audiences who they think are stupid (OK, that one sounds kind of plausible) ... ???

This is an interesting case because the Deep State isn't really involved here. There is probably a bit of it but it's a side show.

RE: Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes - Movie Producers Cry Foul....
Please - it's not pandering to the Chinese. To whom was the Ghostbusters remake pandering? It was a pure feminism driven crapfest.

Hollywood has an interesting history. Across time it had enormous success based on very arche-typical models that included the right kind of mix. You can think of the Disney movies like Bambi or Gone with the Wind. Those movies embody everything that is needed for success:

+ male hero
+ love story
+ struggle
+ heartbreak
+ some kind of message

Hollywood reigned supreme until the 1960s. Then the French were actually more successful and Hollywood did not know what the fuck it was doing. (My idea is that the cultural marxists began, the Beatniks began to take over - the anti-capitalists.)

In the 1970s after some majore blockbuster fiascos Hollywood gave control over to the film makers and writers. Some of the movies were great in that time, but some were just intellectual crud.

And then Hollywood was largely educated once again of what makes or breaks a movie - they returned to the age-old models of story-telling. Movies like Rocky, Rambo even, but also film makers like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg taught them again how to scientifically create blcockbusters. That is why the 1980s had so many enjoyable movies - sometimes with big budgets, sometimes with small ones which were immense successes - Back to the Future is such a classic.

So Hollywood and film schools, executives - even writers - they KNOW WHAT MAKES A GOOD STORY! They know and they do it occasionally.

But what is hindering them now is not their lack of knowledge - it is more their own political bias, their indoctrination into the cults of FEMINISM and CULTURAL MARXISM. The stories and their own perceptions of reality are so convoluted, that strong women, diversity, anti-male bashing, anti-Western bashing has to be included in it and it fucks up the very stories that good film-makers try to do.

THIS IS THE MAIN REASON FOR THE LACK OF SUCCESS OF HOLLYWOOD!

You can either have good movies or you can have anti-life anti-story-archetype propaganda, but you cannot have both.

The same bullshit can be observed in Marvel comics or in the games industry - it is the same crud:

Case in point - Transformers 1 of hot female arm candy to Transformers The Last Feminist:

Not the only candy in the movie - you should watch the college scenes - the classrooms are populated only by 9s and 8s it seems.

Exacly - teach us about social justice - 2 feminist women with little dicks and a male feminist with an equally little dick.

[Image: MARVEL-COMICS-IRON-TRAN-IRON-MAN-SPOOF.jpg]

Bioware Andromeda, but there are other examples:

Model template and actual female heroine:

Male models are fine pretty though because there is nothing wrong with that - no reason to uglify him:

Everyone should boycott all Hollywood. Those shitheads have jumped the shark.

The industry always says "dumb it down", "if you can't explain it in two sentences then we won't make it", "people don't want to think".

Well, as Jordan Peterson so accurately describes, people are dying for meaning. And they would rather watch shitty youtube vids with actual substance about actually true ideas, rather than overproduced crap.

But adding the craft of lighting and performance, cinema can still be a transformative and transcendent experience.

The first step is to get back to actually challenging the audience, and not playing to the dumbest people.

That requires

A. intelligent artists (harder to come by than you might think)
B. coming in UNDER BUDGET AND ON SCHEDULE (most Hollywood filmmakers and marketers are happy to blow money on shit that NEVER shows up on screen, and unions and ridiculous industry standards don't help this)
C. an audience that stops believing it has all the answers and accepts with a little fucking humility that it may require work to digest a complex and fulfilling story

It goes without saying that the messages can't be smuggled SJWism. Those people are not even serious artists.

Whedon is a great example, because people trying to make it in the industry are always sucking his metaphorical cock. The guy is not an artist, he's a fucking hack!

He is a rich and successful hack. Good for him.

But you only have to read the diaries of Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky or the books of Cuban cinematographer Nestor Almendors (both eventually escaped communism to come to the west) to see the MASSIVE GAP of intelligence and insight and craft that exist between the filmmakers of yesteryear and the current hackety hacks.

Since all we can control is our own garden (or Petersonesque room), I suggest we start here.

I propose a radical idea -- maybe threads like "famous books you thought sucked" are a wake up call that those books aren't bad, but you might be a shit reader/thinker.

I don't say this to be combative. But after getting into cinema I had to grind my way through a few canon films that I just didn't appreciate at the time, but after letting them sit in my brain for a while, getting more experience (in the art form, and in life), and then revisiting, became some of the most treasured lodestars of my life.

Secondly, we can stop financially supporting stupid escapism like Avengers 327.

Third, we only need to look at Sopranos, or the first 4 seasons of Game Of Thrones, to see that audiences will accept very complex, slow moving, dark character pieces that do not hold their hand or explain everything...

... if there are the occasional boobs and violence.

I'm not joking about that either. As a semi-pro arthouse filmmaker, I need to remind myself to do like the French and the Italians -- always put a little blood and skin in between your long sunsets and dialogue-heavy philosophical scenes.

(09-09-2017 09:47 AM)Number one bummer Wrote:  What a joke. Rotten Tomatoes has slowly lost credibility over the last couple years which makes sense if they are owned by the movie industry. Rotten Tomatoes used to be known for just panning otherwise good movies. Scarface is a low 80 and Forrest Gump is in the low 70's. There are plenty of other classic movies that received low 90's at best but usually fell into the 70-80 range. You could see a 70+ score and movie would be ok at the worst and good at the best. The last couple years it seems like every-other movie that comes out is a 95+ despite most released movies over the last couple years being reserved to reboots, remakes, sequels and feminist driven superhero movies.

Scarface and Forrest Gump are both overrated movies about beta blokes mislabeled as alpha's. The pedestrianization of horrible females is strong in both of those movies. I would vote down both of those movies.

About movie going experience - there are several reasons I haven't been to cinema for many years except a few cases I got free tickets as part of local supermarket loyalty card auction:

- it is expensive.
- it is overpriced.
- I can obtain movies for free to watch at home.
- most movies are remakes.
- most movies that are not remakes have a cliche plot anyway.
- most movies are meant for a dumber audience then me (median IQ people or uneducated poor Chinese factory drones).
- most movies are leftist anti-white or anti-hetero or anti-male propaganda and I don't want to give my money for that.
- most movies have actors or producers that openly support feminism, gay marriage, Scientology or discrimination of white race and buying a ticket means giving money to these fools who have not seen real life and are alien to real life struggles of normal people.
- in my home I can put a big screen and good sound system and get as good experience while lying in my bed.
- movies in cinema cannot be paused if I need or want to take a break, but I can do it on my PC at home.
- movies in cinema cannot be rewinded back if I want to watch a particular scene multiple times, but I can do it on my PC at home.
- movies in cinema cannot be forwarded if I want to skip some dumb scene, but I can do it on my PC at home.
- movies in cinema are only single watching. A movie I obtain at home can be viewed unlimited number of times.
- I can multitask while watching a more boring movie at home, have a movie in one screen, do some work at other screen.
- theater cuts are increasingly often full of plot holes. To make sense of most movies these days you must wait for a director's cut.
- you are not allowed to bring in your own drinks and food and must buy overpriced junk food and sugary drinks instead. I usually sneak in my own food anyways, but I hate that I must act as a contraband carrier merely to have access to a lil bit healthier drinks or food.
- even if you want to eat nothing the smell of popcorn other people eat at cinema activates your stomach acid and makes you want to eat or causes unhealthy activation of stomach acids.
- cinema rooms are filthy.
- cinema clerks are obnoxious with their questions of - "will that be all?" when you buy no food.
- cinema is a bad date idea, because it doesn' t make you know each other and doesn't bring her into bed.
- inviting a girl to your home or going to her home to watch movies is a good idea as it literally brings you both in same bed/couch and you can talk with each other during movie without disturbing other people.
- I can fondle some boobs or get my dick sucked while watching a movie at home.
- you can encounter obnoxious loud people in cinema.
- I always remember about public shootings or terror acts at least once before going to cinema and must hope I am not a winner of this negative lottery.

On overall the cinema format is simply becoming an obsolete form of entertainment just like circus.

True. Filmmakers also need to realise that films are made for the audience and not self aggrandisement. You can have the greatest dialogue sequence in the world but without a visual to captivate the audience, the filmmaker will completely miss the boat.

Addressing Kurosawa's principles of movement is almost a foolproof way to ensure you keep the audience hooked throughout a long dialogue sequence.

See the tracking scene into the apartment in Pulp Fiction or the Sicilian Scene for example in a modern setting. Film both of those sequences in a static setting and the entire audience would be lost within a minute.

@ Zel

Ghostbusters 3 wasn't released in China because it had 0 market appeal. The movies released there pander to their audiences. Go take a look at what movies are released then look at the content.

RE: Attacked by Rotten Tomatoes - Movie Producers Cry Foul....
A new theatre opened in my city that is supposed to be a much better experience because they have nice sofas, serve restaurant quality food and booze. I still haven't been because like most others on here, I'd rather watch films at home and save money.

I thought they didn't release Ghostbusters 3 in China because it had ghosts in it, and China doesn't allow that.

It's both.

They didn't even contemplate releasing it in China because they didn't think there would be demand for it so the film never made it to the board that decides which films get past the filter and which don't. Had they submitted it, China would have probably declined it because, as you said, the film has ghosts in it and China doesn't allow that kind of supernatural stuff in movies.

If you watch any regular TV shows here in China, with all the over the top magical special effects and other princess junk, you can understand why they will watch something like Transformers. Those shows have shitacular story and zero depth. Just looking pretty or looking cool is all it's about. That's why they want to own Hollywood studios, so that they can make even more Chinese movies with those silly special effects in it.

The Chinese government is not cracking down anymore on their film industry, due to the large amount of spoiled stuck up princess telenovelas they have on TV right now. Will be interesting to see if they ever reverse course on that. I don't think so because they probably do not want to interfere with the purchases of foreign film studios.

Also, they may also see a benefit in using all of this as an extension of their own propaganda like how old Hollywood used to do. The amount of anti-Japan type shows and WW2 dramas in China are numerous right now. Question is, how are they going to do that because your best Chinese shows in China is about as interesting as the worst 20 animes ever made in Japan (including that funny show about some dude and two bears). If they just want to focus on their own people, then it will work well, which is not surprising. China will not get rid of their ethnocentric behavior and use it outside China anytime soon.

They can claim that the low box office sales are hurting their bottom line but the reality is that they'd find a way to produce all of this shit even if it ran at a perpetual loss.

I'd like to agree with you, but can you point to any substantial government funding of the film industry? Other than tax credits, I dont see much. Film projects are largely funded by PE.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you on this point.
Governments have made massive investments into the film and radio industry.
From an American perspective it might not seem so obvious, I'm sure it's hidden a lot better in the States, but I grew up in Canada and it was obvious. For some reason the government of the province of Quebec seemed to grant money to about half of all the shows and movies I watched growing up.

If they stop making feminist puff pieces, remakes, sequels and utter crap, then people might shell out the megabus to set foot into the theatre with all the freaks and packet rustlers again.

But imagine the cash they would make if they let you download and watch new movies for $5 on your lounge in comfort.
