Whelp...for their own sake anyway. Sports have considerable value to a sociopath because memorizing some basic information about somebody's favorite sports team is a great first step to make them love you.

NBA TV contracts have been getting boosted big time hence the big pay raises though ratings will likely decrease when people are tired of the same two teams in the Finals again.

Another reason why salaries have increased exponentially is that the NBA product is very popular in China where the TV contracts seem to keep getting more lucrative by the year.

Regarding college football, I'm getting tired of seeing big non-conference games during week 1 or 2 when these kids haven't even developed chemistry with their teammates yet. It's as if the young players are genuinely trying hard but the quality of play resembles that of a scrimmage because of all the dumb mistakes.

They need to move big non-conference matchups towards the end of middle of the year when teams are more warmed up and schedule the crappy games to start the year. I love the sport, but I remember wasting my Saturday night flipping channels only to watch sloppy fuck ups after fuck ups for 5 hours straight between UGA/ND, Auburn/Clemson, etc etc.

No way, those early cross-conference matchups are great! The premium is on experience, but also on solid coaching. Besides for most of the P5, the middle of the season is challenging enough with the meat of the in-conference schedule taking place.

The right way to go about it is with an "ABC" non-conference sched early on: one very good progam, one OK team and one of two creampuffs. For the longest time SEC teams gamed the system going with at least three body bag games, so it's good to see them step up with their out of conference schedules recently like the Big10, Pac12 and other conferences do year in year out.

This is a very red-pill perspective.

I honestly don't think that there is any action more beta than dressing up like it's Halloween to support your favourite professional sports team.

Be your own man.

Wearing a team jersey (when it isn't actually Halloween) is about as beta as it gets.

I LOVE baseball, hockey, and most recently boxing. For some reason I never got into football, and I could never really figure it out. (The dangerous nature of the game regarding traumatic brain injury doesn't really bother me that much, although that's probably self-explanatory due to the fact I like both boxing and hockey. I would maybe forbid my future son to play it, but I'm not offended by the game like lefties tend to be.)

I was born in the tail end of the 1980s. Was football a real sport around this time that felt like baseball? Nowadays it is just so overhyped and feels soulless. Is college football better?

RE: The NFL is dying
All this concussion shit and SJW stuff is turning me off a lot, it's in the NFL, NBA, NHL, Tennis.... everything.

In the NFL they are trying to make the game "safe", I could really give a fuck less that the average career is only 3 years or so and a lot of the players live the rest of their lives with injuries and or brain injuries. It's part of the game, it is one of the reasons you are getting fucking paid, there is a risk to playing pro sports.

I've had injuries from playing contacts sports as a teen and they will hurt me later on in life and some of the injuries are minor irritants now and I wasn't getting 50 million dollar contracts. Harden the fuck up.

They are doing this shit with the NHL as well, taking fighting and hitting out of the game. The league is going to be full of euro faggots soon, the league was way better when they had guys like Scott Stevens, most of his shit wouldn't be legal now.

"elite" academic focused public high schools are starting to see football being dropped due to lack of participation. These are the schools that send kids to top universities and this will force the game in the long run to be more regionalized and broken among class lines.

Also, when the new CBA comes up in 2021, the NFLPA has pretty much indicated that they will strike and therefore a lockout is extremely likely to happen.

RE: The NFL is dying
Essentially ALL players end their careers with significant concussive head injury. I stopped watching it 3-4 years ago specifically because of this issue. I no longer consider football to be an ethical sport and am very open about saying such to others. If anything, college ball is worse because, unlike NFL, the players don't get paid and usually graduate without a useful college degree. This is an example of real exploitation as far as I'm concerned. I agree with the guy who wrote the long posting on this with one difference. I think the NFL will go away much sooner than he predicts, probably in 10-15 years.

The NBA has its own issues. Mainly that only 10-12 teams are profitable. That's was the reason for the lock-out in '11. The owners wanted more equitable sharing of the TV revenues for all of the teams. Without such an arrangement, most teams would shut down and the NBA would be left as more of an exhibition league of 10 to 12 teams at most.

I stopped watching football a long time ago after watching my hometown team, the Buffalo Bills, suck so badly as the years went on after losing 4 Super Bowls. Plus, our fans here were actually rated as the worst fanbase when it comes to conduct at games.

The gayest team is the seahawks, being from Seattle and all.

I can't find it but there's a cartoon where the players go to dump the Gatorade on the coach, and they think its the caramel latte, but then they are all relieved because its the iced macchiato. Because of coffee you see.

Aloha!

College football is the greatest sport in the western hemisphere. No other sport has as much soul, the bonds between the team and their extended campus community or state are unique, and still in place two centuries later. The game itself is far more exciting and dynamic than baseball, and more open than in the NFL.

It's got the highest attendances of any team sport in the world, for a reason.

I used to be pretty active on /r/NBA. Every year there's a bunch of people interested in getting NBA League Pass to stream games on their laptop.

The problem is the service is absolute shit. IIRC

-Stream quality was bad
-No playoffs/Finals
-Still subject to local blackouts

If the leagues could work out realistic streaming options, they would make a shit ton of money.

I don't have cable but I still have weeknights where I get the craving to watch NBA. If I could pay $3 to get a high quality stream I'd pay in an instant, just so I didn't have to go to the virus-ridden stream sites that exist today.

Same thing with the Finals, my roommate and I streamed every game because it was such a fun series. We put up with the stream failures, time delays, everything. If there was an easy option to buy the finals for...$25? We would've paid.

The founders of Spotify had this mentality. Somewhere in an interview they said something like "if you make legal streaming easier and faster than illegal, everyone will use legal." Same thing with sports.

That's one thing MLB has going for them, their "tech" division is doing well.

It was a weird revelation, when I was a kid wearing my favorite pro athlete's jersey was totally normal, the day people of my birth year was getting drafted gave me second thoughts; "this kid is younger than me by several years, why are people my age and older going out to buy this rookie's jersey?"

RE: The NFL is dying
The NFL has been going downhill for a long time. Here are a few reasons why I don't care for the NFL anymore.

1- The Michael Sam debacle.
Here was a guy that was slow and mediocre at best. He is a poop pusher so he was given extra attention and praise for coming out.
When he got drafted(I believe by the Rams), ESPN orchestrated him kissing his BF on live TV. It was completely staged. I remember watching it live and thinking how disgusting it was. Fook ESPN and Fook the NFL for that production. By the way, he turned out to be a complete bust.

2- Breast Cancer awareness
Making players wear pink is embarrassing. It doesn't have anything to do with football.

3- Female hosts and reporters
The major TV networks are bombarding us with females in all positions. ESPN now has a female hosting the their NFL countdown show or whatever they call it.
I really don't care what a female thinks about football. My position is that if a female is doing the play by play for any sport, I would not watch it.

4- Female assistant coaches? Really?

Not only did Katie Sowers become an assistant coach but soon after being hired by the SF 49ers, she announced that she was a homosexual.
What football experience did she have over other more qualified men?

You say that like it's a bad thing! I have been to two NFL games, one was a SF game in the new Santa Clara stadium and the fans sucked, just a bunch of dweebs on their phones the whole time. "Great wifi in the stadium today!" I also went to a Bills game like four years ago and it was awesome, it was snowing hard and the fans were pretty wild, even though the team sucked.
