RE: The NFL is dying
NFL is the most masculine and popular sport in America.

It has been under attack for years - the Sam Michael first "gay" player in the league, Ray Rice wife abuse scandal, Adrian Peterson alleged child abuse scandal, the inflate-gate Patriots scandal, Breast cancer make them wear pink nonsense every year and now a female doing awful play by play.

No other sport seems to go through such bullshit in comparison.

Despite this, the league makes a lot of money every year.

I have lost interest because it is obvious some games are engineered, so certain teams can win.

So many flags.
So many commercials.
So many trash QBs
The weird public disciplining of grown men for shit that's really no one's business.
The pandering to women who don't care about the sport
The ref that picked up the pass interference flag in Dallas/Detroit Playoff game.

It all combines into an unwatchable product.

The limiting factor of basketball in my eyes is that basketball at a high level is geared exclusively to physical traits that 99% of the population doesn't even have. It's virtually impossible to make a even low level college teams like division 3 unless you are tall enough.

I definitely see soccer growing as it is the ultimate world wide sport and the latino population in the US is expected to double by 2050. Soccer is also represents average sizes of humans compare to most sports.

As a casual NFL fan (meaning I watch one or two games a year) how are some games engineered so that certain teams win?

You guys need to experience NFL football Hawaiian style.

At 5 am you start drinking at bars that only show the games Polynesians are playing in. Preferably one near the University. You find a white girl that acts like she's into football and fuck her by ten am. You still get to church on time.

Aloha!

Fucking epic! And how could you not love the special guest appearance by Richie "The Code Red" Incognito (6:05)?!

A brilliant and hilarious slice of Americana right there.

Statistically speaking your odds of making it to the NBA being under 6ft tall are 1 in 1.2 million.

If your white you probably have a better shot of winning Powerball twice than getting Muggsy Bogues genetics.

Completely wrong. There used to be plenty of white guys in the league who weren't tall, Steve Kerr, Danny Ainge, John Stockton, Mark Price and they played in a time where some of the greatest, most steroid using players played like MJ, Barkley, Ewing, Karl Malone etc. Even Steve Nash completely dominated the league until recently.

If they're not in the league anymore you should look in another (((direction))).

Remember when ESPN made Richie Incognito the face of Bullying in America? That was 2013, if anyone remembers the epic NFC title game between Seattle and Harbaughs SF (Richard Sherman went nuts in that Erin Andrews interview after) then SEA killed Denver in the title game. That was the 2013 season.

Those were two "canary in the coal mine" moments for the League, when Incognito was just skewered by the media and then Richard Sherman was torn apart for scaring Erin Andrews, she was "traumatized" and the media white knighted and hit him hard after that. It's been all downhill since then with how retarded the NFL has gotten.

Demographics is destiny

Adam Carolla is right. LA is now Mexico.

Attendance:

Los Angeles Chargers: 21,054
Los Angeles Galaxy: 25,667

It's all about the demographics. Even so, an MLS team outdrawing an NFL team at home? The NFL has no idea how much trouble lies ahead thanks to the diversity it has supported over the years. It's not an accident that every major league sport was invented by white Americans... or white Canadians. Other peoples simply aren't as interested in them.

The Dark Lord somehow overlooked the fact that soccer itself was invented by white Englishmen living in 17th century white England. You can't get any more white than Elizabethan England. Yet the Mexicans seem to have no problem being huge soccer fans. I don't think he's thought this through. Dark Lordin' ain't easy.

RE: The NFL is dying
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/colum...olumn.html

Quote:To witness the death of the multi-billion dollar National Football League, you really don't need to see sportswriters wringing their hands over the moral dilemma of covering America's Roman circus of brain trauma.

And you don't need to watch multi-millionaire football stars, pampered for most of their lives, ostentatiously disrespecting the American national anthem, kneeling, their raised fists in the air.

You don't need to see the desperation in the NFL's television commercials: actresses in team gear, holding snack trays to feed their (virtual) extended team-gear-wearing families, as the NFL begs middle-class women to mother their game before it dies.

You don't have to do any of that to see how football is dying.

All you have to do is go out to a youth football field, as I did on Sunday morning, and talk to parents and coaches.

"Just four years ago, we had so many boys signing up for football, we had five teams at this fourth-grade level," says John Herrera, a dad, software engineer and football coach of the Wheaton Rams in the Bill George Youth Football League in the western suburbs of Chicago.

"And from five teams of fourth-graders four years ago, what do we have now? One team. Just one."

Out on the field, the Wheaton Rams and the Lyons Tigers were going at it, having fun. Parents and grandparents watching, sipping lattes, a few dads nervously pacing the sidelines as dads always do, willing prowess on their sons.

But what do the numbers from the hometown of the "Wheaton Ice Man," the great Red Grange, tell us about football in America?

"If dropping from five teams of fourth-graders to one doesn't tell you what's happening, nothing will," Herrera said. "Football is such a great game, it teaches great lessons to young men. But I've got a sense of dread for this game of football that I love."

Herrera cares about the lessons the game can teach. He and other coaches are deadly serious about instilling "heads up" tackling techniques to protect the heads of their players.

"But it's the parents," he said. "They're worried about the brain."

It is all about the brain. The brains that are injured in the game, yes, but also about how the human mind works, as the American middle class withdraws from football, a cultural trend that will cut the NFL away from American virtue.

What is virtuous about brain damage? I'd prefer to watch prizefighters. At least prizefighting is honest about its violence. It doesn't wrap itself up in mom and

Four years ago I wrote a column saying that football was dead in this country, as dead as the Marlboro Man, though it didn't know it yet.

Putting your kids in football would be akin to giving them cigarettes, and leave you to face the withering judgment of your friends and neighbors.

I was hated for it, accused of wussifying American boys. Some even called me a liberal. Now though, years later, the water is warm and others have jumped in, as the feeding frenzy around the NFL becomes undeniable.

Without that feeder system to provide fresh meat and fresh brains for the NFL meat grinder, the NFL as we know it is doomed.

There is still enough talent and size to fill the ranks. And gambling drives the game along. But without its connection to the middle class, the NFL loses what it can't afford to lose — market share.

You really think the NFL is worried about young athletes? If so, they'd have changed the rules years ago, abandoning face masks, enlarging the ball to make it difficult to throw, switching to one platoon football.

But they're not worried about players. They're worried about their money.

Parents read the news, they know about concussions and CTE, chronic traumatic encephalopathy. While a recent study wasn't random — brains were donated by concerned families — the analysis by Boston University of brains from dead players showed that of 111 brains from NFL players, 110 suffered CTE, a condition causing depression, psychosis, dementia, memory loss and death.

And what does science tell us?

It's not the concussions that are killing football. Every sport has danger in it, and concussions can happen in basketball, soccer, perhaps even badminton, for all I know.

And as a soccer dad — with two sons playing in college — I've spent my share of nights in emergency rooms. Concussions happen when brave athletes collide at speed, and mostly, it's the brave ones who get hurt.

There has been a pathetic and desperate spin by football to lump soccer and other contact sports into the discussion to save itself.

But it can't. Because what makes football different from the others is the design of the game — sending bodies crashing in high speed, high impact collisions. It is what makes it awesome and dangerous and fun to play.

Heads get in the way. And football provides not only concussions, but by design, multiple hits to the head. There is no getting around this.

"Sure I'm concerned," said one of the moms at the game, a lawyer who is no stranger to courtroom debates about liability. "But he loves the game so much. We haven't made a decision as to how long he'll play. At this level, they're just learning, they're not big enough to hurt each other. Later? I'm thinking about it."

Parents of youth football players are already feeling pressure and social stigma.

"It's not like smoking, yet," said a dad. "But it's getting there."

It's already there, dad. It's there.

RE: The NFL is dying
I was an NFL fan as a kid, could really care less now. But caught a glimpse of the Broncos/Cowboys game today as they got put on hold on because of a lightning strike "8 miles away" and inclement weather. The fans cleared for safety. Give me a break. Let them slug it out rain, snow or shine. When calls like that are made they should really go back to wearing pink socks. They could all start wearing pink panties too while they're at it and put tampon dispensers in the locker rooms.

Honestly the players should speak about shit like that. All I could do was chuckle as I thought to myself "awww are da poor big burly highly overpaid pwayas afwaid of a wittle water. ahhh poor snookums." The players should be embarrassed.

Playing sports was always way more fun in the rain and mud.

RE: The NFL is dying
Players will always be available, it doesn't matter what the potential for dain bramage is, they'll chase the lifestyle. But, of course, they don't want any of the responsibility - in the last contract negotiation, they wanted to be able to sue the owners down the road if the players refused doctor warnings and took Toradol beyond 5 days. They literally wanted to sue the owners for their own illegal drug use.

And, while concussions happen and cause lasting problems, I doubt the suicides are a result. Dudes in the NFL have been treated like heroes since high school. When they retire, burn through the money, aren't invited to parties anymore, don't get comped at restaurants and bars anymore and can't pull the women they used to, they get depressed. It's not a brain injury, it's 25 years of reinforced narcissism finally unraveling.

RE: The NFL is dying
Every fucking person on earth right now should be aware of the risks of long term brain injuries related to sports.

If you play sports you should accept that or don't fucking play.

Like CaptainStabbin said, these guys make tens or millions or even hundreds of millions of dollars over there career and a lot of them are fucking broke a few years after they are done playing.

Look at guys like Allen Iverson, he made over 200 million dollars in his career and he is fucking broke at 42 years old.

A fringe player for Canucks (NHL team) Rick Rypien killed himself during his career, he was a fucking depressed alcoholic since he was in his teens and they trying to blame it on his role as a player, a 4th line energy guy basically only known for throwing hits and fighting.

Now the NHL is heavy into promoting this "You can play" BS which is supposed to make it easier for fags to come out since there are no openly gay hockey players currently playing in the league and they have harsh rules against anything that is considered homophobic.

Laugh all you want.

Fact is American sports is losing viewership in no small part because the lack of whites.

At the same time, European white players are better than ever before and seemingly have no problem making it to the NBA. Many white European players are stars, the Gasol brothers, Jokic, Porzingis, Dragic, Dirk, many more.

Why then not American whites?
