Any books on strength/bodybuilding?
As I'm back in business with gym, I'd like to collect some more knowledge on the topic. Any good books on planning training, techinque etc?

I'm planning to start with Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.

Jim Wendler's Beyond 5/3/1 is popular

Pavel's Beyond Bodybuilding

Jamie Lewis' Destroy the Opposition

Medvedev's A System of Training Weightlifters (don't look at the program itself, look how it's laid out)

Tuchscherer's RTS manual

If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

I read Michael Matthews' book Bigger Leaner Stronger. The book covers most aspect of body building.

Using his advice and method I've gained at least 6 kg over the last six months. And lost body fat.

Just stick with Starting Strength and avoid the paralysis by overanalysis.

I recommend "The Poliquin Principles: Successful Methods for Strength and Mass Development" by Charles Poliquin. Very good and detailed insight for beginners as well as for more advanced.

RE: Any books on strength/bodybuilding?
The only reason I would even consider starting strength a good book is that it delivers the simple concept of progression based training. That's something a lot of people dont get.

Aside from that, you don't need to be a book worm or a rocket scientist to figure things out. There is so much information out there and so many opinions that it's easy to get lost in all of it. A better approach is to go look at what people who have achieved your goals are doing. Find the common themes.

It didn't take me too long to figure out that the people I wanted to look like trained heavy and were strong as fuck, ate a certain way, and took some drugs. Once you established those things it's a pretty basic case of fill in the blanks.

To make a great chocolate chip cookie you need chips, dough, vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, some nutmeg, ect...

But without the dough and chips, all that other stuff doesn't matter. But it's still a cookie if it's just chips and dough.

For basic, classic, timeless knowledge .... Nautilus Bulletin ... always worth a read. It's more of an exercise on AJ's ideas to explain the basis for the design of his Nautilus equipment. Beautiful.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

Shit! Jamie has a book? How did I miss that? I have been reading his website for years.
