Two black men arrested in Philadelphia Starbucks
Thought I should start a thread on this because no one else had done so. This much is known:
1. A few days ago, two black guys in shabby clothes enter a Starbucks in Rittenhouse Square. This is an upscale neighborhood in the deepest blue part of deep blue Philly. It's also a very yuppie part of town. However, the square attracts bums because of all the benches and places you can hang-out.
2. They ask to use the restroom. They claim to be real estate agents waiting for a client. True fact: don't drive into Philly unless you piss in advance, most places won't allow you to use the facilities unless you are a paying customer.
3. The manager tells them to buy something first. They refuse and go sit down.
4. Manager calls the cops.
5. Cops arrive and tell the men to leave.
6. Men tell the cops "NO!".
7. Cops tell the men we'll have to arrest you.
8. Men say "Go ahead."
9. Cops handcuff men, take them away.
10. White patrons of the SB begin to photograph and film the incident, protesting the outrage.
10. Both men released hours later.
11. Starbucks CEO begs forgiveness. Mayor of Philly expressed outrage. Philly Chief of Police stands by his officers.
12. Big Internet melt-down over "Sitting While Black". Protests planned.

I know that there is a lot of "serves SB right" gloating going on, but no one knows why the manager called the cops. Nor have the body cam images from the cops been released. Or the security camera footage of the SB.
Comments?

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
Why didn't you include a link to the actual article? Might be because the actual story is a fair bit different than what you are telling here:

https://www.ydr.com/story/news/2018/04/1...518578002/

There is also video at the link. The guys aren't wearing shabby clothes and don't look homeless.

Everyone in this story is a moron. The black guys are idiots for not buying anything while taking up time/space in a business that needs paying customers to survive. Starbucks employees are morons for the calling the cops---I see people waiting around in Starbucks all the time without buying anything and no one calls the police. The only guys who get a pass here are the cops who were just doing their jobs.

We suffer more in our own minds than we do in reality.

I can tell you why the manager called the cops...these guys were trespassing, simple as that. They were told what they needed to do to stay in a private business, and they declined. Then they were told by the cops what they had to do by the cops to avoid being arrested (stop breaking the law and leave) and they declined. Then they were arrested.

I have gone to many Starbucks to use the restroom and not buy anything. I also never seen a sign saying that you must be a paying customer to use their bathrooms before. Even the ones in China do not have that sign.

In Houston, especially around Westheimer, seeing drifters, homeless dudes, hippies living out of backpacks, etc. lounging around in a Starbucks is common to see. Some of them have a coffee some of them do not.

I know everyone is tripping about race these days, but what the fuck is up with that stupid company policy? McDonald's does not do that to people. It's 2018 and there are still fast food companies that do not like people using their bathrooms that are not paying customers? Is this more about an individual store policy by individual franchise owners?

Sounds like New York, it’s impossibke to find a public bathroom when you need one but usually Starbucks will let you use it. Ask nicely, tell them you really have to go. Or really just stand by the door to the bathroom and wait for the last person to leave?

Calling the cops is an idiot thing to do. I see that sign all the damn time(bathroom is for paying customers) and sometimes even at McDonald’s

This about sums it up. If you’re not patronizing my business, gtfo and make room for paying customers.

So this is basically a space issue in tight, no-space anywhere, Up North/East Coast America? Now I know why I have never seen these signs then. Down South, you can piss in any restaurant bathroom you want. No one gives a shit about this stuff. Might have something to do with needing a car to get to most places, but at least that is not a problem.

Well, Philly made bullet proof glass in stores illegal recently and has a questionable retail sector.

Philly sucks anyway.

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
This just sounds like a big clusterfuck where everyone has a narrative that they will stick to and no one will be honest about what happened so we will never know and there is no point having an opinion about it.

My experience is like TK's as far as Starbucks go. They are one of the few places that are lax about people just using the restrooms or the WiFi.

So at first look, you could say this was racism because they weren't lax with these guys.

On the other hand, I know one Starbucks in my town that is very protective of their bathroom and always say 'customers only' when someone walks in and heads for the bathroom.

In that case, no racism.

I have never been to a Starbucks in Philly in this neighborhood so. . . .no idea.

If they were there to meet someone, and weren't sure if they would show up, it makes sense to sit there and wait say, ten or fifteen minutes before you buy something. Depending how busy it was, this should be no problem with the management.

We don't know the specifics. If someone came over and told them to buy something, what if they said it in a rude or dismissive voice? Then these guys might give the attitude right back, and now you have a stand off where everyone feels like the injured party.

Or the opposite could have happened, and someone asked them nicely to buy something and they responded in a hostile way which offended the worker who was trying to be nice and then they got mad and spoke more sharply.

Anyway, it could easily ended up with everyone digging in, hunkering down morally into their position, whether it was inappropriate attitude or righteous indignation, all parties are feeling disrespected and become intransigent.

Still, no way to know. By the time the police come it is all over, and the lines are drawn. It is 'sitting while black' vs. 'private business rights,' and no one is cooperating with anyone, and we are well on our way to the internet video that can be interpreted in any old way, and the multiple Twitter accusations, followed by the completely predictable apology by Starbucks no matter what happened.

A clusterfuck. Hurt pride, hurt feelings, everyone feeling righteous, and all of it ripples out across the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if that Starbucks got a hundred calls from SJWs pretending to be the person the guys were supposed to be meeting.

This is our time, this is our life.

A completely different take on the old "It's 2018!'

Is this more about an individual store policy by individual franchise owners?

I have thought this in the past, considered making a thread but then figured my personal gripes about corporate policy might not be thread worthy.

This shows a huge ignorance and degree of shortsightedness on the part of the company. As any struggling entrepreneur knows, getting people through the door is one of the hardest parts. Whether they come in for the toilet or to be warm or whatever, once they're in the door, maybe they'll smell the fries, or see a great treat, or whatever. You can be damn sure McDonalds and Walmart have evaluated whether or not the marginal cost of toilet paper and water is offset by the increase in unplanned sales. Typically I've noticed such policies in small Chinese/Indian run stores, but having lived over there, they wrote the book on being short sighted.

Secondly, such a policy comes off as petty and spiteful. Along with "leave your bag at the front" stores, I've gotten to the point of not patronizing them because if you're so unhelpful as to not let me use the toilet despite having spent money at your business before, or to not treat me like a clandestine thief, what other headaches to you have in store for me once you have my money? These are just hallmarks of being a shitty, untrusting, unhelpful person.

Finally, I don't use washrooms for my benefit. At least for #1, I am quite content to go behind the nearest bush, tree, or ally. By the time my piss goes acrid nauseating the noses of all the passers by, I'll be long gone.

This reminds me of an incident like 10 years ago. We were at a beach in the southern US, drinking heavily. My friend had to go to the bathroom, tried to go into like a outdoor tiki bar type place. They told him no. So he stood at the entry way just off their property, pissed his swim trunks so that urine was all over the sidewalk by the door, then he started laughing and ran to the water to wash off. They really showed him. Contrast that with being helpful and accommodating, then we would have likely gone there for drinks when we invariably ran out of beer yet wanted to keep drinking.

Yes these guys were technically trespassing. Are SWPL types who buy a $1 water then proceed to sit on a laptop for 10 hours not? Maybe they really were waiting for a client and were going to order a round once they arrived. Or maybe they were homeless. I just can't fathom what was going through the guys head when he called the cops. Not saying he was wrong, But if they weren't bothering anyone, by ignoring them, the worst case is you have two guys sitting in your seats and they eventually leave. Call the cops, and despite being in the legal right, the worst case is sort of what's paying out. I'd fire a manager who was so dense he could't foresee the optics on this one.

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
To me all this bathroom blocking is just un-American. Used to be, having a clean bathroom was a major selling point. This is regressive cultural behavior over crass stingy greed. This shit reminds me of China 5 years ago! It's becoming rare to find a place in China where they are stingy about the bathroom. All the coffee joints in China are full of kids lounging around for hours bored bumming wifi. If anything the internet bars got killed off by coffee shops, McDonalds, and other restaurants offering wifi.

Like Seadog said, the drifter carrying 2 giant skibags full of shit that he plops on two chairs that nobody else can sit on, all because he bought one bottle of water, then he pulls out a laptop and stays there for 8-10 hours gets a pass? Dude that bought one coffee and created an office on a whole table for 8 hours?

We used to have better manners than this as a country. Even legit racist white folks used to let me use their bathroom as a kid and they thought nothing of it. Why are we calling cops on people hanging out in a coffee shop to begin with. Kish says two white girls would get a pass, but the articles say that cops there have been told they cannot use their toilet without buying something first too. If cops cannot piss, I doubt white girls are getting passed that either. This is more to do with bad policy, bad culture, and corporate greed. People can protest all they want, these greedy fuckers care only about money. MLK figured that out as well. Those boycotts broke those racist laws, it was not the shaming and the speeches.

People have to be willing to not participate and stop buying these products and services from people that exhibit these low class policies for their businesses. Anytime my kid needs to pee and if I ask a store and they say no, they just lost a customer forever. Fuck em.

Notice how Starbucks CEO did not come out hard and fast to stop those policies? They are too busy counting how much money they will need for lawsuits and everything else first. He does not give a shit about anyone.

One homeless person can fuck up a bathroom in under a minute. A lot of this policy depends on homeless population in neighborhood.

This isn't the case everywhere. To any of the Alberta/Edmonton crew who've been lucky enough to pass through the Valleyview Shell truck stop, you become fortunate to come to understand how truly elegant a pissing experience can be.

Alberta gas station restroom named best in Canada

Quote:“Customers appreciate that they can count on us for a clean place to stop and use the washroom,” said Store Manager Blake Sparks.

“People comment to our staff all the time about our elegant décor in the washroom and the importance we place on the maintenance of our facility.”

“We are proud to see that the Valleyview team goes the extra mile to keep its facility well maintained,” said Molin.

Is it worth the hassle of checking on the toilets every 30 mins, cleaning garbage, splurging on some nice wood, and letting non-customers use them? Well here I am talking about it, we'd always make a point to stop there, and they are getting news stories written about them.

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
The bums were not paying customers and were repeatedly asked to leave by the proprietor. That is trespassing in all 50 states and you can easily be arrested for that, even though the "crime" is even less of an offense than a minor in possession of alcohol ticket in the same jurisdiction (2nd degree trespassing where I live is the lowest level misdemeanor on the books).

I have zero problem with these bums getting arrested for trespassing. I've personally seen people arrested for trespassing for doing far less, including literally standing on a public sidewalk. The idea that everyone is entitled to use the pisser at any store they walk by, without being a paying customer, just underscores the entitlement issues of the modern generation. I have zero sympathy for the bums or Starbucks. Obviously it's bad publicity for Starbucks in a cucked libtard city like Philly. But they weren't wrong for giving the guys the boot. If it wasn't such a juicy opportunity for virtue signaling this would be a complete nonstory.

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
Once the manager told them they had to buy something to use the bathroom and they didn't, his blood was up by them defying him and staying in his space without permission. This is a natural reaction.

As for free bathrooms, it really does matter how busy the area is and how many freeloaders there are. Everybody hates cleaning bathrooms. If you are in an area where a lot of bathroom freeloaders tend to have poor aim, you're going to hate having to clean up after an extra 100 bathroom users everyday.

The solution is to charge for bathroom use. A small charge makes it worth it for businesses to maintain clean bathrooms, and makes it so non-customers in a busy area have easy access to a bathroom

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
It's usually not an issue at most locations, but fast food places in sketchy areas keep their bathrooms locked until a customer asks. Prevents homeless from waltzing in, unobserved, and using the restroom and free newspaper page 3 girls as their personal masterbatorium.

Debeguiled has got the gist of it I think. No way to know who escalated first, or whether the response back to the instigator was appropriate or not.

RE: Philly Starbucks Incident
BLM protesters shut down the Starbucks, which is ironic considering Starbucks has gone out of its way to hire minorities/refugees. It's getting to the point where there will be no one for the left to attack but the same companies that are on its side.

A private business that wants people loitering gone? Good for them. Seriously, why would you want non-paying people hogging seats? That's just rude and shifty. On the other hand, it is delicious that an SJW company like Starbucks is getting heat. Lol, SJW's never have enough victim points. Smile

RE: 2 black men arrested in Philadelphia Starbucks
They shouldn't have asked in the first place, just gone and tried to use the restroom. If it was locked ask nicely, if the fag refused get into harder manipulation (non-violent threats) and then if they really had to piss kick the door in.

From my Boston experience finding a restroom can be impossible. I pissed behind a dumpster in an alley multiple times after having a few because of this. I have no patience for some barista lording over the restroom.

This is the one time I root for BLM.

So to make it full circle:

Cities full of homeless and riffraff caused by liberal state policies, supported by liberal politicians, supported by liberal companies (like Starbucks, Soros backed, etc.) that hire and support illegal immigrants, get accused of racism by the same liberal people.

That's a lot of fucking cannibalism right there. Only thing missing is somewhere to fit the tranny in the bathroom mess somewhere in that wheel of fuck.

I'm not certain if that face that Zack is making is of lament for dropping $80k for that degree in sociology or of anger over the fact that none of the SJW-themed papers he wrote during said degree program are doing anything to help him at this very moment.
