RE: Anyone watch Game of Thrones?
This was by far the best episode of the season so far, and that says a lot about the general quality of the season.

Again stupid defense tactics, useless scorpions, jamie getting caught, tyrion "believing" the jamie and freeing him, Jamie fighting Euron, Arya's 100% resist to everything, extremelly shitty "Cleganebowl", 150+ different scenes of people burning and buildings falling, etc

I did not mind the sensless destruction of Kings Landing, but the instarage was so rushed it became well, sensless and contradictory to the whole story arch.

Watching some of the highlights can someone explain to me why fire as breathed from the mouth of a dragon causes buildings up to and including castles to explode as if they were made out of dynamite?

Yeah, I get the whole "mythical creature" thing but it just looks stupid. Like these enormous structures made out of millions of tons of stone just fly apart as if they were actually made of foam bricks stuck together with double-sided tape.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

And that's after spending five seasons stressing that stone and bricks are the only things that remains after dragonfire and that the haunted stone towers of Harrenhall are a reminder of how dragons roasted the defenders alive in there, leaving only empty stone halls. It's simply fucking retarded.

In other words, the dragons forgot that their fire isn't supposed to melt stone, I guess.

All they needed was a lot more green fire explosions of the Wildfire caches hidden through the city and it would have been fine, but the writers were too lazy to do even that.

Sums up their entire run once they ran out of George RR Martin's material to crib off.

The towers of Harrenhal did in fact melt under the fire of Balerion:

Burning of Harrenhal

Quote:Harrenhal's walls were too high and too thick, and well-stocked enough to withstand a siege. During a parley outside the castle, Aegon offered to confirm Harren as Lord of the Iron Islands, provided he would yield. Harren refused, trusting in the strength of his castle, confident that the stone would not burn. Aegon warned him that the line of House Hoare would come to an end that night, at which Harren returned to his castle. To his men, he promised riches and the daughters of the riverlords to anyone who could slay Aegon's dragon, Balerion, in the upcoming battle.[1]

When the sun had gone down, Aegon flew Balerion high above Harrenhal, before plunging down upon Harrenhal, burning the castle beneath him. All that was flammable, both suplies and ironmen, caught fire within the castle, while Harrenhal's stone towers cracked and melted. The rivermen outside observed that the towers glowed and melted like candles.[1] Harren and his sons died in the largest of the towers of Harrenhal, which would later give the tower its name: Kingspyre Tower.[5] With their deaths, House Hoare was extinguished.

Quick edit: Obviously melting and exploding are two different things, and Danny's dragon should be no match for Balerion.

I was wondering the same thing as it seemed pretty ridiculous. I even went as far as googling "is fire a ballistic". There would need to be some sort of projectile in the fire to knock down buildings like that. Even then it would have to be on a rods from god level. I get that it's fantasy but that shit was way over the top.

I agree.

My only thought is Hyperbaric weapons.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermobaric_weapon#Effect

They work on the principle of igniting and sucking in, feeding off the air around them, but they still need an explosion delivered at a certain point to bring the reaction into effect.

Perhaps plot-armour-magic combined with thermobaric effect?

RE: Anyone watch Game of Thrones?
Rocks can explode. There's two main things that generally cause this, the first being the moisture content in the rock and the second being the type of rock. If the rock is wet and you heat it rapidly, any water will turn to steam and put pressure on the rock, forcing shards of it to break off rapidly. Secondly the type of rock matters, layered rocks such as sandstone are much more likely to split and perhaps explode because of the weaker bonds between their layers. Very smooth rocks -those on a river bed at some point in their lives - have water trapped deep in them. Limestone, sandstone, pumice, slate -- all of them bear some risk.

But meh. If you're seriously going to worry about physics in this show, worry more about how Jon Snow outright says his troops have just crossed the Trident and will be in King's Landing in two days.

The Trident is hundreds of miles away from KL. Obviously it has a fast travel node that nobody told us about.

What's sposed to be Danyraes motivation to kill them all, her mullata interpreter pal getting beheaded? Jon not giving her a seeing to? Seems the switch from 'queen of hearts' to psycho war criminal has switched very sharply.

Was born in 1975, school i went to in London had around 35 kids, approx 16 of them girls, three of them were called Jolene (a very un-english name, all named after the country song that was a hit at the time). Pop culture in influencing morons shocker.

Oh I think the motivation was always there to go full mad queen but she was held in check by her advisors like Sir Friendzonrand the hot interpreter. Now they are dead, she doesn’t exactly trust Tyrion or Jon. So there is nothing left to keep her from going full mad queen, and she does

RE: Anyone watch Game of Thrones?
Rewatch some of season 1 and it feels like a totally different show. Realistic dialogue, characters with actual depth. A lot of it was down to Mark Addy (Robert), Sean Bean (Ned), and Charles Dance (Tywin) being a higher quality of actor to the rest too. Plus, like we've all said, good source material. Now it's just a very high budget soap opera for normies.

Plus, it's a way (it's always been) for SJWs to celebrate being European, or European folklore, without worrying about seeming 'racist'.

Take it at face value and it makes some sense: as she says, nobody loves her here, nobody welcomes her rule the way they did in Essos.

So she chooses to make a point so that they will be afraid of her, teach them a lesson about why respecting her is for everyone's own good.

In psychology, the loss of "narcissistic supply" is sometimes called a "narcissistic injury", which results in "narcissistic rage". The narcissist believes that whatever they do to the people who have injured their ego is justified, because those people are evil for making them feel bad about themselves. The narcissist is great, this is a fact that is obvious to the world, so anyone who denies their greatness must be lying to hurt them. It can easily mean serious violence if the narcissist is empowered to take it that far. (I think there was a real life case some years ago about a "perfect" FBI agent who brutally murdered a man for accusing him of corruption. Not to cover anything up, just to hurt the guy for saying it.)

They should have given this another episode to play out, though. It all went too fast.

Hi-diddly-ho, RVFerinos!

Daenerys mentioned something about the citizens of Meereen overthrowing the slavers by themselves, as soon as she showed up.

By implication: she feels the citizens of King's Landing were complicit in Cersei's rule and deeds, by not pushing harder to bring an end to Cersei's time on the throne.

Regarding Khaleesi as used in GoT. It's a title, not a name.

Something like "Your Grace", but in the Dothraki social system.

I don't understand how the show writers couldn't just ask for feedback from their staff before finalizing the episodes. Would it really be so hard to go back and think about what doesn't make sense before finalizing it?

Dragon fire collapsing buildings reminded me of burning jet fuel being able to demolish WTC1 and WTC2.

Didn’t the khalessi crucify the masters? Shouldn’t be a surprise that she went full Dresden on a cultural city full of refugees to usher in the liberal democratic era.
