I don't watch it, but this was their 2nd choice, the girl from Vikings......

What are they were thinking?

I suppose they thought needed the actor with an award to her name....in a comic book film.

Either Brie Larson has information which she can use to blackmail certain Hollowood executive types.
Or she is willing to do things with the "Harvey Weinstein's" of Hollowood, very few others are willing to do...

I suspect the latter.

She is 40, definitely will be a wall survivor. I'd gladly destroy her now and 10 years from now.

Sounds like the perfect storyline for a woman. The idea that something should be earned might be too foreign a concept.

That's popular with all comics, not just women characters.

Spiderman got bitten by a spider - got powers.
All mutants were born with powers - didn't have to work for it.
Deadpool, Captain Marvel (Shazam), Captain America, Hulk, Wolverine, Green Lantern (all of them), Thing, Flash, Human Torch, Silver Surfer, Superman, etc. - none of them worked for it. They might train to maintain an edge but their powers won't disappear if they skip leg day.

Even Batman and Green Arrow were born with billions of dollars giving them a way to finance their crime fighting.

I don't mind that she doesn't work for her powers (she gets her powers through Kree experimentation) that's completely common. I mind that she isn't at all feminine.

Wonder Woman stayed feminine despite being raised in a man-hating (or at least not trusting) culture of warrior women. If anyone had an excuse to be a bull dyke, it's her. And, on a smaller budget, she outsold more than half of the Marvel movies, all but one of the DC movies and even tied Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Every female superhero movie should take a lesson from WW.

Aha. I realize now I confused Brie Larson with Charlie Sheen’s live-in pornstar GF, Bree Olson.

It has to do with the context of the backstory and what these characters symbolize.

The bestowed angle works...as long as the character is supposed to represent an "everyman". Then it becomes how to wield power without being corrupted (with great power comes great responsibility).

I don't think that's what Captain Marvel is supposed to represent, since she already starts off as a soldier. I don't get the sense that she could make it through any sort of military training. She's just not credible.

I don't see this lack of femininity the way some do. I think she's too feminine, but not so much in a sexpot way, but in an everygirl way. She is riding on the thin line between SMV5 and 6. She's barely hot enough to be deemed attractive, but utterly dull in every way. I'm surprised she's become any sort of star in Hollywood. You need some sort of special quality, some charisma to make it, and she doesn't have it. She's maybe good enough to be an extra in High School Musical.

Not really, there a plenty of heroes with no personal tragedy that drove them to crime fighting. Green Lantern, Fantastic Four, Captain America (maybe got bullied a little in school), Wally West, Pym, Black Panther (the comic, not the movie), War Machine, Cypher, Atom, Captain Britain, Static, Booster Gold (original story), original Hawkman, etc - that's just from memory.

Plus, Captain Marvel is a tragic story, she's kidnapped and tortured for years by the Kree.

And there's little hint of that in the trailer. So if CM is a compelling narrative in the comics, it sure isn't evident so far in the film version.

There's been a few times where I fucked a 5, where I'm sitting there like "damn why do I like this girl" but their feminine sexuality gets my dick harder than a 6 or 7 who sucks to be around.

I bow to your superior knowledge of superheros! I wait to see if she's tortured in this movie.

The feminists are clinging on to these superhero movies for two reasons (probably more, but two come to mind immediately).

1.) They have no original ideas. So the only way they can artistically create something is to appropriate a previous movie.

2.) Women are only physically equal to men in fantasy worlds. So they have to force-feed these movies down the public's throat in order to keep their equalist narrative alive.

There's gotta be a way to get a twit mob started after the movie for "white facing" captain marvel.

I dunno, the only thing I had that involved her was the secret wars ('84) mini series.
All the costumes were kind of weird back then.

Haha, Cynicalcontrarion, that is absolute class! Photoshopping smiles on Brie Larson's face! When I first glanced at her there, I though 'hmmm, she's not as bad looking as I thought'.

Just duck-duck-go'd it and yes, it is a thing. Read a couple of paragraphs on Screenrant which confirm that all the right people are getting upset.

Here's the link, but don't click on it;

https://screenrant.com/captain-marvel-sm...hotoshops/

Sample quotes;

Quote:While there was much to gather from the first Captain Marvel trailer, some viewers were oddly fixated on the lack of smiling by lead actress Brie Larson. The Academy Award winner herself responded to the sexist online comments regarding this, using fan-made images mocking the issue by photoshopping smiles onto male Marvel superheroes.

The tone of the widely-viewed trailer was largely serious, with Larson's character Carol Danvers appearing to go through several trials and struggles. The trailer contains shots of Danvers falling down at several points in her life, eventually followed up by shots of her standing back up. (Wut? falling down and standing up? Was I supposed to notice that? - RT) We see Danvers as a leading member of the military group Starforce, and the final shot of her in the trailer is a showcase of her power. Said to be the strongest figure in the MCU, the trailer makes it clear to viewers that Danvers is a determined woman.

But online trolls could not resist falling back to the most basic of misogynistic comments, questioning why Larson as Captain Marvel rarely smiled throughout the two-minute trailer. Online comments, presumably from male commentators, felt that the trailer was lacking for this very reason. One such tweet from a Twitter troll gained enough attention and criticism to bring the "issue" to light, by manipulating images from the trailer to make it appear as if though Larson is smiling.

While Larson's response may be amusing to a degree, this brief saga does highlight an old and still common form of casual misogyny. Some men expect women to smile and look "pretty" to fit their own personal image of what women "should" look like, in an offensively controlling and dehumanizing manner. Should women like Larson not meet the standards of these men, they are judged and criticized. With Larson being an activist champion of women's rights - as she publicly displayed after presenting an Oscar trophy to accused abuser Casey Affleck - it's no surprise that she would respond to this widely-echoed criticism. While Captain Marvel is taking strides in being the first film from Marvel Studios to feature a solo female superhero, society still has a way to go before rampant sexism such as this is quashed. At the very least, Larson managed to fire back against it in her own way.

I know that was painful to read, but take heart at the accuracy of the photoshop shivving that elicits such a hissyfit. This response should also confirm (to anyone who still had doubts) that this film is without doubt nothing but a weapon in the ongoing culture war. Here's me thinking for so long that they were just trying to make good films.

This is a brief life, but in its brevity it offers us some splendid moments, some meaningful adventures.

(Note to mods: begin prepping for eye-bleach now please ..)

It slipped me by that Larson (not her real name) 'won' an Oscar recently. I had no idea. They must be giving them away.

Anyway, curiosity got the better of me so I checked Wikipedia to see how that she got hers for 'The Room' (never heard of it).

The reviews were all incredibly positive, so I just knew it was going to be about how evil men are or something. I read the entire plot synopsis on Wikipedia and yes, it's worse than I thought (imagine accidentally taking a date to see this tripe!).

It also looks like an awful, grim, nihilistic film, which got me wondering 'why do women love depressing shit like this?'.

Which then got me looking at the lesbian writer of the book it's based on;

Presented without comment;

[Image: 220px-Irish-Canadian_author_Emma_Donoghue.JPG]

I wasn't sure whether Larson was just joining in with the Metoo shit but with credentials like this, looks like she's a true believer.

Hollyweird continues to save me a fortune.

I have a brilliant idea. In order to force men to confront their innate bias against strong women, they should FORCE boys to watch Captain Marvel.

It's simple. Have all junior high schools forcibly collect the price of the ticket from parents. If hey don't pay up...bobby doesn't move to the next grade.

That way SJW movies are guaranteed box-office hits.
