RE: The Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thread
600 Billion wouldn't even come close to covering the cost of universal health care in the US. You're talking trillions of dollars easily. Simple question that Miss Ocasio-Cortez could not answer was how she would pay for it all. I agree with Blue Mark that getting the insurance companies and the government out of health care would solve most of the problems in the US system. Insurance should be there for protecting people from catastrophic loss and not to pay for basic things like immunizations, physicals etc. If you had a true free market system for health services with transparent pricing and the ability to shop around, costs would come way down. There should also be incentives from insurance companies to give lower rates to people who take care of themselves. Fatties, smokers, heavy drinkers should all be paying more for their premiums. Just like with auto insurance where better drivers get better rates. This would incentivize healthier living which would serve to reduce cost as well. There's too many chronically ill people in America today and its largely due to so many people being overweight and obese. It's scary how being big is so normalized. My gf is nice and thin, healthy looking and she gets shamed constantly for being too thin, it's unreal. These fatties have seriously driven up cost and then expect the government to pay for their poor lifestyle choices.

The reason that other countries can indulge in universal health care is that the majority of the costs of modern day medicine including creation of new technologies, pharmaceutical medications and other r and d are borne by Americans. If the other western countries had to bear more of the cost of these innovations, then the cost of American medical care would decrease pretty dramatically. This is especially the case with prescription drugs where we get fucked here so that Canadians and Europeans can pay far less. This is one thing Trump is working on changing, to get big pharma to charge Americans less and pass more of the costs on to other Western countries. No reason Euros and Canadians shouldn't be paying more for their meds. Another big reason for the cost is the out of control malpractice insurance costs in the US. When Doctors are paying 100s of thousands of dollars annually for malpractice, guess who the cost gets handed down to. Of course though, Miss Cortez and other lefties wouldn't ever dream of any sort of tort reform which would help to drastically reduce cost. Lots of things could be done to reduce cost but all anyone wants to do is to have the government pay for it all which is absurd. The fact that Medicare and Medicaid are almost insolvent and the fact that the VA is such a mess should be enough proof that government health care is god awful.

RE: The Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thread
It's laughable that any New Yorker would want the government to provide more jobs and services when one of the most glaring examples of government inefficiency and ineptitude is the backbone of life in NYC: The subway and the agency that runs it, the MTA.

The latest ball-drop from the MTA: Failing to announce maintenance work.

Quote:Big Apple commuters were blindsided by heavy rush-hour delays Monday morning — because the MTA was doing subway repairs that were never announced.

The transit agency began work on the N, R and D line tunnels running from 36th Street in Brooklyn to 59th Street in Brooklyn — but their website didn’t indicate “planned work” on the yellow lines and declared there would be “good service.”

There wasn’t — and even MTA officials seemed clueless about why the delays were happening when they first started getting reported.

“There are no reported incidents along the lines at this time,” tweeted the New York City Transit account around 8 a.m., when responding to a commuter complaining about being stuck on an N at 45th Street.

Only about an hour later did the MTA start informing riders that it was “performing critical structural work” on the express tracks between 36th Street and 59th Street.

Commuters were fuming that they were only told about the delays, ranging from 25 minutes to over an hour, while they were experiencing them.

“How do you announce that the morning of, among all the delays??” asked @shibbyyshabamm. “This should have been posted and reported.”

“The app should’ve said ‘planned work.’ There should have been signage in the station,” tweeted Jack Szwergold. “I assure you that communication of this work between 59th St. and 36th St. was/is non-existent to abysmal. Utterly nobody knew what was happening.”

“This is not on your website. Could you please explain this major communication discrepancy?” tweeted David Mutton.

Added a rider named Joanna: “No announcements. I’ve made it 4 stops in close to 40 minutes.”

Some also wondered why the work had to begin during Monday morning rush hour.

“Why was construction scheduled and not announced during rush hour on Monday?” asked Caroline Fenn on Twitter, who said it took her 30 minutes to go one stop on a Manhattan-bound N train.

The MTA responded on Twitter, saying it would “work to make sure the delays like this morning won’t reoccur” as the work is slated to continue until December.

In a statement to Bay Ridge Councilman Justin Brannan, the MTA said the delays happened because signals weren’t properly set up to deal with service changes associated with the tunnel work.

“The MTA swore that the hot mess we experienced this morning will not happen again even though the service change on the N will remain in effect,” the statement Brannan posted on Twitter read. “It just sounds like the MTA wasn’t ready for prime-time this morning.”

Before Miss Ocasio-Cortez talks about any national issues, I'd like her to confront the question of why NYC can't have a subway like the clean, reliable, and efficient systems in first-world Asian cities like Hong Kong, Taipei, and Singapore.

It boggles my mind that any New Yorker bothers complaining about Donald Trump or Republicans when the people running their own city constantly have such a negative impact on their daily lives.

What really gave me pause was listening to the Scott Adams periscope and he pointed out that Cortez is operating with persuasion like Trump, albeit less experienced. Sure she's saying stupid shit and can't back her position with any facts or logic, but it will still be effective because it feels right to the people listening to her.

It's like how Trump used the case of Kate Steinle to push for immigration control instead of droning off statistics about hispanic crime rates. Sure, the Trump haters would argue that he's just using anecdotal evidence, but the persuasive element which draws everyone else in is through the storytelling with feelings and all that gay shit. Cortez could pull the same routine, albeit tailored to faggy millennial soys and potentially turn them into a big voting block of tofu.

I have no doubt AOC will be popular with about 33% of the public. Yet her whole nature & socialist diatribe won't make her popular enough to get a majority of votes.
Noting how easy it is to mock her; with mockery that has an underlying truth. Not juvenile 'cheeto dust' nonsense.
Plus, Gen Z / Millennial types are notorious for failing to vote...

Noting how Millennial's have difficulty putting avocado on toast without the aid of smart phones & third parties...

Replace New York and New Yorkers with Chicago and Chicagoans. Replace AOC with Rahm Emannuel (our joke of a mayor). To the uninitiated Chicago has one of the highest murder rates in America if not the highest. Throw in the fact that the CEO of our mass transit station (Claypool) is also CEO of the school system. Don't forget that over here we have Chicagoans complaining about Trump, even spraying graffiti near Trump towers to show that evil Trump and his tenants who's boss. PRIORITIES! This post hits home on so many levels.

To be fair, if someone pays $22 for toast with some avocado on it, they deserve to be messed with for their stupidity. Especially a stupid, lazy bitch with no financial sense who insists on telling the world her first world problems.

Socialist star Ocasio-Cortez strikes out: All endorsed candidates lose Tuesday primaries

Quote:Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s record on Tuesday night for her chosen primary candidates was as bare as a Venezuelan supermarket shelf.

The socialist pulled off a stunning victory last month in New York, and is now attempting to parlay that win into helping other leftists win Democratic primaries.

Cortez held a whirl-wind tour of the U.S., stumping for Abdul El-Sayed for governor of Michigan, Fayrouz Saad in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, Cori Bush in Missouri’s 1st District, and is backing Congressional candidate Kaniela Ing in Hawaii.

El-Sayed lost his bid for the Democrat nomination for governor to 50.1 percent to 34.6 percent, according to numbers published by the New York Times.

Saad came in fourth in the five-way race, capturing only 20.1 percent of the vote.

Cori Bush lost her primary to William Lacy Clay, 62.3 percent to 30.2 percent, the Times results show.

Hawaii’s primary election will be August 11. Stay tuned to see if Ing fairs any better.

Editor’s note: Results may change as returns are updated.

You really have to wonder how daft they are?

She is such a terrible speaker - "So, like, ya' know, I think..."

Waffles on & on & never says anything of substance. No brevity, never pithy.
Plus, once all the anti-Trump diatribe is stripped away. The man has actual accomplishments.
He has run businesses. He knows the game, he knows the players.
He has developed companies & networks. He's a father.

All she has is a great deal of mindless drivel. Without any tangible achievements nor anything to meaningful to point to about her or her life.

Becoming a futuristic, well-run Asian city is about as likely to happen in NYC as it is to happen in Sao Paulo.

The Latin American economic model is the next evolution of the socioeconomic order in the US. I believe that this will actually be better than what France and the UK have in store over the next several decades.

Best case scenario, NYC can become like Santiago but with much more crime and overt and open use of crack cocaine/speed but not opiates. I believe that the Opiate crises will get solved and ODs and open use of heroin will significantly decline (it needs to be death penalty for trafficking and/or having a significant amount, there is ABSOLUTELY no other solution). It's something that everyone can actually get behind, probably the only thing. Buenos Aires is out of the question. An upgraded Sao Paulo is more likely.

Asia is out of the question. Why? Because Asia is filled with Asians. The amount of top-heavy social enforcement that's needed is something that any non-Asian or even an Asian American Chad
or Becky can stomach. Singapore? Lolz.
