RE: Elon Musk is falling apart
There has been a story about some Mexican workers using the Tesla supply chain to smuggle drugs, but if Elon Musk's Tesla is the Los Pollos Hermanos, then the company truly will survive:

And he will manage to go private of course, but that frankly does not sound credible unless the CIA is behind this. Even then - they would do it over a private company, and one that is boring and has no media scrutiny like Tesla.

The moment a crazy pop queen bitch goes on a rant you just gonna take her words for it and switch side on Elon? Thats insane.
I guess it doesnt also matter that the hair-loss/transplant thread and the gym/supplement/TRT thread are one of the biggest on RVF.

RE: Elon Musk is falling apart
Ay - Elon Musk does not need our sympathy or even scorn. Even if he becomes a drugged out hippie, then he can drown himself in model-pussy for the rest of his life.

I criticize some of his business ventures on the basis of ethics, abuse of globalist plans, but many others would have done the same, but failed to reach those levels.

Billionaires don't need pity from anyone - certainly don't need stupid shit-tests by D-grade pop-starlets that will be forgotten in 5 years. He created a fortune that will last his family for centuries and he has multiple children - that is is his legacy even if some of his companies don't make it.

His falling apart after banging Amber Heard and going on rehab on a private yacht - truly mind-shattering stuff:

Sure - he would be better off with the Red Pill or mediation, but it's not as if he is sucking cock at a street corner for crack. There are a ton of stories from other billionaires like Michael Dell going apeshit for a time. Dating a drugged up E-level pop-starlet is hardly the bottom.

(08-17-2018 11:52 AM)Abelard Lindsey Wrote:  I think Tesla is the next Theranos. I think it will fail within the next 6 to 12 months and Musk will go the same way as Delorean. I suspect the reason why SpaceX is doing so well in comparison to Tesla is that Musk is not involved in the day to day operation of SpaceX. The rocket engineers have been given pretty much free rein to do what they need to do to develop low cost space transportation and are doing so by doing essentially what my friends and I came up with as the proper strategy over 20 years ago. That is to stick with conventional rocket technology and focus on making the first stage reusable, followed by the second stage, all the while improving the manufacturing technology in making the rockets. The other reason why I think SpaceX is doing so well compared to Tesla is because, paradoxically, I think it easier to develop and manufacture reusable rockets than it is to make a reliable car as consumer product and manufacture millions of them to exacting standards. Making rockets from a manufacturing standpoint can possibly be easier because you're making only one or two of them at a time and are not trying to get the per unit cost (cost of good sold) down to a fine level. From a cost standpoint, there is way more "slop" to play with.

Remember that Musk, personally, is a marketing guy with some IT skills. His claim to fame was being one of the principles in Paypal where he was the marketing guy. Peter Thiel was the technical brain behind paypal and was their overall "brain" behind the outfit. Musk is a bright guy. But he does not personally have the engineering and technical experience or knowledge to understand the issues and processes of making an electric car or developing a reusable rocket. If Musk is falling apart its because he is way in over his head with his various companies, especially Tesla.

It's even worse than you mention; Tesla is the biggest Ponzi scheme in all of history, worse than Theranos, worse than Bernie Madoff, even worse than Toshiba's current FUBAR debacles. Elon Musk has been running a Ponzi scheme by selling unprofitable cars and promising profitability just around the corner to keep the thing afloat with government subsidies and stock dilution money raises by fish who believe in the con.

Now, the company is almost bankrupt, he needs more money from somewhere to keep the whole thing afloat, but the problem is that he ran the con so damn well these past 15 years that it has gotten too big to save at this point. Hence his last Hail Mary at announcing a private buyout plan that nobody in this planet has the money or will to support.

Elon also has most of his wealth tied to Tesla's gigantic stock price, and when that comes crashing down he's going to end up becoming a broke nobody, stuck in prison with Bernie Madoff. The cocaine and ambien fueled tweet rages and outright insanity we're seeing are tells that he's going down, he knows it, and he knows there is fuck all he can do about it.

I have placed roughly a third of my networth betting against Tesla now. 6-12 months sounds about right, but it may implode a lot sooner than that.

Wow - Accuride dishes out some good info. Never looked into Tesla that closely - just casually observed the products and compared it with even low-tier competition out there. And even that did not make sense to me as I detailed previously.

If Tesla exposure is that bad and he even put his own net worth into the company, then his money I mentioned won't last centuries - the entire project seems to have been a hubris-driven one.

It was hubris. Almost all of his money comes from borrowing money from the bank against his Tesla stock. He thought he could be the next Larry Ellison and just borrow against his stock to avoid paying taxes forever so long as the stock went up, and he probably thought he could con the world forever.

Now he can't even sell his shares on his own to cover his margin loan because the SEC is on his ass and will forbid any such transactions. So he is desperate to do anything to keep the stock price up to prevent the bank from conducting a forced sale. But it's only a matter of time now before the whole thing collapses.

Theranos was not a Ponzi scheme. It was hubris, megalomania and utter stupidity. It never returned anything to lure in new suckers. Instead it used social proof to lure in suckers, because having Kissinger in the board of a biotech company impresses idiots.

It's sad man. Unlike Madoff who was basically just a older boomer age boiler room hustler from the NY banking world, Elon Musk sold a very fascinating dream to today's population. I mean, if this thing was indeed a gigantic Ponzi scheme (which seems entirely plausible), he did an excellent job laundering & baking the revenue stream into these electric vehicles that were supposed to begin ushering us into the Jetsons era. Not to mention all the other visionary projects that Musk would routinely link his name with. At this point I guess only time will tell.

By the way, good luck with the short sale process. Speaking of short sales, would you short the Sears Holdings Corporation?

I assumed that he got 1 bio. $ + in government and global warming financing, but it was probably much lower - those US-based solar panel companies usually went belly-up as soon as the founders spent the hundreds and tens of millions of dollars in subsidies.

This is not comparable to even guys like Gates, because Microsoft is making money and he has long since diversified anyway.

Wow - talk about a paper billionaire. And he still buys houses for 30 mio. $ a pop. My guess is that he has at least sidelined a few hundred mio. $ just in case, but you never know....

Who knows. He could be plotting an exit strategy as we speak. Couldn't he theoretically take his fortune & flee to a nation (sooner rather than later) that does not have an extradition agreement with the USA? Guess I am playing devil's advocate here.

But oh wait...he has to attend this summer's Burning Man Festival soon with Grimes. Priorities...SMH.

If Tesla is operating at a loss, then what it is doing could be called dumping. Usually, dumping is done to kill the competition and gain market share. In Tesla's case, it is done to even be able to compete and gain market share.

It's really hard to compete with hydrocarbons in energy density.

This. It's not a deliberate ponzi scheme. They pulled the same levers that any dot com style startup attempts to pull (same as Amazon). But the fact is that when you take on a lot of debt it raises the level of risk and you wind up having to pass through an ever narrowing window of execution. That window was still relatively wide when the S and X were shown to be competing well against luxury european cars, but they bet the farm on the Model 3, and what you're seeing now is them losing the bet in slow-motion.

At one point Musk said that the worst was over on production hell and then he said he was going BACK to sleeping on the factory floor. THAT was probably the turning point where you could say things were falling apart. That was right around or before the investor call meltdown and the layoffs, etc...

There's a difference between being a plucky upstart flirting with bankruptcy in its early fragile days and a bubble-stock flaming out to the tune of tens of billions of dollars in debt. That level of failure is what's hanging over Musk's head. If Tesla crashes and burns his ego will never recover from it. That is why his life is falling apart as he tries, like King Canute, to hold back the tide.

A lot of people love a good underdog story and are rooting for him (rather than realizing that these are all problems of his own making) but these sorts of things tend not to play out like Hollywood movies.

I guarantee the Trump Space Force is a way of slow soft disclosure of technologies (and peoples) we've had for many years. It will make the former space shuttle and ISS and Tesla look like a station wagon. Fuck me we've probably long militarized space already. Why is the US Airforce constantly launching undisclosed rockets....for the scientific good of the world?

Whenever I see Tesla and NASA, I now see as a public front dangling a bunch of keys in front of a cat (the public) to distract them. I sometimes look at Musk and think "does he know he's likely dealing in antiques and passing them off as the latest and greatest, does he know?"

RE: Elon Musk is falling apart
I thought Musk could let Tesla go and just concentrate his efforts on SpaceX, since the latter is actually working quite well. A little research indicates this is not possible.

I just looked up the projected market caps for Tesla and SpaceX. SpaceX is private, which means its market cap is speculative. In any case, Tesla is much bigger than SpaceX in terms of projected market cap. $50B vs. $21B. My understanding is that Musk has always had the financing of all of his companies interconnected. Losing Tesla means that SpaceX will go down the toilet as well. Musk really does loose everything if Tesla fails.

It looks like someone will buy SpaceX for a song by summer of '19.

In what way? There's a very loose connection between Tesla and SpaceX as far as I know. The only tech they share, for instance, is the inconel material for the ludicrous mode S/X.

I also think that if Musk were forced to choose he would sacrifice Tesla and would fight literally to the death to save SpaceX. SpaceX is his primary goal in life as he wants to spend his final years living on Mars.

SpaceX is separate and Musk owns some 53%. He might have to sell off more shares of this venture. That business might work out in some way, but I expect it to be ultimately owned by other people - or the government.
