RE: The power of magic mushrooms
I've tripped on acid one time before with two of my friends, and it was great. It took about an hour to hit us, but when it did we really couldn't control ourselves. We started running through a parking lot screaming, I thought i was Pegasus the flying horse. Eventually we got to a park and we rolled and in the grass for a while, looking at the stars and screaming as loud as we could just because we were happy.

After that we were walking on a trail and we found a spot we considered "the center of the universe". This is where I really felt the "spiritual" or "enlightening" effects. One of my friends and I talked about how society was divided into different levels, and why the world was being run in the wrong way. My other friend just sat there staring into space fingering his belly button. Throughout this whole time we saw rings around the moon, as well as streaks of different lights and colors in the sky.

After we left the "center of the universe" we smoked a couple bowls, and I really started hallucinating, seeing jack-o-lanterns everywhere. Eventually we got back to my friends house and passed out, not before eating 3 bags of chips and laughing for 30 minutes straight. I'd say this was one of the better experiences of my life so far.

RE: Clinical Trials For Treatment of Depression
(04-07-2013 08:36 AM)painter Wrote:  http://news.yahoo.com/first-magic-mushro...05511.html

"The world's first clinical trial designed to explore using a hallucinogen from magic mushrooms to treat people with depression has stalled because of British and European rules on the use of illegal drugs in research.

David Nutt, president of the British Neuroscience Association and professor of neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, said he had been granted an ethical green light and funding for the trial, but regulations were blocking it.

"We live in a world of insanity in terms of regulating drugs," he told a neuroscience conference in London on Sunday."

mushrooms, you know, those things that just grow all by themselves in nature, are classified as Schedule 1 narcotics in the UK (and the US) right up there with other dangerous, naturally occurring drugs like cocaine and heroin... er, well, anyway... because of this classification he can't do the experiments he's been granted almost a million dollars to conduct.

This guys previous experiments have shown that mushrooms shut down the part of the brain that works on depressed people.

God (or whoever) put that shit on the planet for us to use, but people who want to tell you what you can and cannot do because they are so much smarter than you and I believe it's in our best interest to "outlaw" nature. Oh, and it's a guarantee that the people who outlawed and are against mushrooms HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER WITH THEM!

So instead of helping people with something that grows in the woods people are used like guinea pigs by pharmaceutical companies that usually make people crazier (and turn them into killing machines i.e. Aurora,Colorado and Newtown, CT). And then they cover it all up.
Yes, shrooms are kind of like a natural psychiatrist for me. You can open up to yourself.

I don't shroom anymore, but I've done them several times in the past and sold them for a while. My best shroom experience was in brazil. Most people are afraid of them and you can't buy them, so you have to pick them yourself. We went to a farm a couple hours away from São Paulo and told some farmers we were studying funguses at our local university and were wondering if we could pick some of theirs. They thought we were upstanding young citizens. It was one of the coolest looking places is ever been. The funny thing about so many people in brazil being afraid of shrooms is they will drop hits of acid like crazy.

What do you mean by "they will drop hits of acid like crazy"?
Do you know why they are afraid of shrooms?
With all the travelers going to Brazil I thought they would have a better understanding of psychedelics, much like the Mexicans.

Lol that's funny they're real scared of shrooms. The propaganda machine got them. I think in some European countries, weed is really looked down on. It's China or Japan where you can go to prison for a tiny bit of bud. Japan were the ones who invented meth (or perfected) it during world war II. I read the meth is super strong and pure out there.

From what my friends told me, there are lots of (probably fake) stories about people out there taking mushrooms and going crazy. Basically permafrying. But for some reason they seem to think acid is safe. It seemed to be pretty common among a few groups of my friends.

I think a lot of Asia there are very strict laws on weed. Even Thailand I'm pretty sure.

RE: The power of magic mushrooms
Shrooms hold a real danger of having a traumatizing experience that persists beyond the effects of the drugs- similar to PTSD.

However, if you regulate your dosage you'll be fine. I've done 50+ trips and never had an issue. Though at high doses it can become exhausting to concentrate on positive thoughts. I tend to think in analogies when I'm on it, and I think of skiing, where your thoughts on continuously moving without your control, and all you can do is try avoid trees, rocks and steep drops. It's exhilarating when it's going well, and frightening when you come close to a negative topic.

I would highly encourage everyone to try it, I've built more mental discipline from Shrooms than any class, test, workout session, anything.

Also, low dose Shrooms before going out can be useful, it's a stimulant, will help you be awake, but relaxed. Think of smoking sativa

RE: The power of magic mushrooms
The hangover effects of mushrooms /ecstasy is fucked up .

I haven't taken them in 2 years . Last week a dear friend of mine insisted that I take one pill of ecstasy .

The effect was intense euphoria for about 2 hours ; butterflies in my chest .

Then what after, 3 days of depression , confusion and anxiety . This is normal since the pill consumed all the serotonin ,dopamine in my head .

Another bad effect I experienced ; Ecstacy changes your perception on life.

You become very lazy, always questioning the creation of the universe ; while other people are high on life , fucking hot chicks and making tons of money .

Moreover , the color of that pill of ecstasy I took last week was blue . It's self-explanatory .

Getting 5gs of dried shrooms tomorrow. Never done that kind of dose before - for the first time will be following the Dennis McKenna method. Solo, in the dark, what he would call a 'heroic dose'. His theory for heavy doses being better than medium is that you aren't going to experience ego-death giggling at the swirly patterns on the wall paper. It's a bit of a roll of the dice as ever, but fuck it, nothing ventured. All my other heavy psychedelic experiences have concerned Fear, and facing them. For me that's always been the them of deep tripping.

I also see the value in it as a way of shedding unwanted outlooks and behaviours. It's like whittling away at reality to the point where you can get outside yourself and see what's out of whack. Only slight issue is my flat is near a busy bar/cafe area and you can hear the noise from my room. My flatmate is away all weekend so will probably decamp to the living room and bed down on the floor there.

RE: The power of magic mushrooms
As a 43yr old that has shroomed balls umpteen times, I was pleased to discover Chaga, Cordyceps and Reishi, etc. to have a similar effect. I discovered those back in 2007, simply due to them being part of the 90 ingredients in a green powder called "Tonic Alchemy" which is a high-end product from Dragon Herbs. Pricey, but will absolute take your game several notches up. At the time, I was living next door to a rec center and running 5 miles a day and started hearing about olympians taking cordycepss to improve oxygen intake, etc.

As for the magic ones, I sometimes do them every 4 yrs or so. All I can say is be in the forest and around friends. Don't go to Walmart or dumb shite like that. Concerts can be fun, but I like the quieter trips. I have amazing memories of camping trips by rivers with everyone laughing and riding around on jet skis.

No idea why people are popping synthetics. They are horribly damaging to your health. Some kid was bragging to me the other day about taking Ketamine.

I've done Terrence (not Dennis as far as I know) his heroic dose in darkness a lot when I was younger, be prepared for a hefty introspective ride... Big Grin Try to be centered before you start, ritualize it, set and setting, set an intention for what you want to reach... Fasting the same day and being in nature before the trip also helps imho

Also have pen and paper or something else to jot down any insights... some of those insights may sound completely out there when you have landed again but some of the insights will become clearer after a while.

A good book on this is Mushroom Wisdom by Martin W. Ball imho. Anyway hope your trip will be insightful !

In this other thread, a poster says that psychedelics were used to undermine traditional values and institutions in the 60s.
https://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-65675...pid1680222

How do you reconcile that with the view in this thread that shrooms are used for good? Is it because the type of people on RVF are different from the average middle class American who is susceptible to outside influence and easily led astray?

I say that as someone with a favorable view of shrooms btw.

There are real dangers with mind altering substances, no matter what they are. Very few apart from alcohol can be used responsibly by the overwhelming majority of humans in any given society. I say this not to condemn drugs per se, but to deny that they draw people away from reality and have an overwhelming tendency to become an idol is foolishness. Addiction, in general, destroys humans and relationships, by definition. For that reason of course it is used or promoted in various ways as a destabilizing agent.

I just watched the JRE with Paul Stamets. Wow, great stuff, looks like I need to go on a trip soon...

Anyway, is anyone growing their own mushrooms?

Paul sells some great mushroom supplements, but he's also got a lot of great books about mushrooms.

Curious if anyone's doing this, it seems the life extension benefits are undeniable.

Along with fermenting, this could be another "win-win" healthy hobby.

RE: The power of magic mushrooms
Psychedelics are a tool, like an AR-15, and as such can be used wisely or stupidly as we've seen very recently. Those indoctrinated in the western medical professions are quick to condemn what they don't understand and haven't investigated - whether through anecdotes, current research (conducted at John Hopkins for years) or personal experience. If someone has severe past trauma then it's best to seek professional help first. But even among those drug addicts who have done a one-time heroic dose of psilocybin in medical studies have had major remissions or a full cessation of the addiction. Any tool must be respected and that's why in ancient traditions an experienced shaman / medicine man would lead the ceremony and decide who was ready and how much they should take.

I studied, read, spoke to those who have done and proceeded very carefully. Mushrooms and THC have been extremely expansive and helpful experiences, especially when combined with mediation / silent sitting / self-inquiry. It's not escapism to examine the contents of one's consciousness. It's called 'cleaning house' and without self-examination we are certain to be trapped in self-destructive patterns laid down in our formative years - through no fault of our own. These become such fundamental yet dysfunctional patterns we often cannot see them let alone question or release them simply by engaging the conscious, problem-solving mind state. For most people, the expression 'physician, heal thyself!' is impossible to apply to their mind. The minds cannot 'heal' itself without outside intervention or at least a disinterested yet engaged observer to reflect your ideas and words back to you. There almost always needs to be some external agent or influence to engage in a truly therapeutic process.

When you are under the mindful and careful influence of a psychedelic, preparing yourself in the correct mind-set, and in a supportive and safe setting, you experience a softening of 'problem-solving' mental states in favor of a more associative, diffuse, symbolic space. You see images and scenes which may not have physical reality but may correspond to a situation or concern in your life. Like with a song, a sound, a color, a scene, there is great power in qualities outside the analytical mind. The most significant moments of your life are not thoughts but experiences. Psychedelics bring you into a state of access of memories, examining behaviors (symbolically), and new possibilities. Many very creative people have found inspiration through psychedelics. This is not a new phenomenon. It's only new that abuse and misuse is so rampant, plus the phony war on drugs hasn't helped in educating people as to what is and isn't 'wise' use.

A psychedelic like ayahuasca or psilocybin (magic mushrooms) is NOT addictive! They are meant to be used for a specific purpose, in a specific setting, for a specified time. When used correctly as medicine, they continue working and encouraging healing far beyond when the 'trip' ends. Indiscriminate use must be condemned, not therapeutic / medicinal use (the latter now being corrupted with easy-to-obtain licenses). For reference, I HATE the smell of burning pot and avoid it. I think with sufficient parental and societal engagement people would come to a healthy relationship with psychedelics, somewhere between 'legalize it all!' and 'throw em all in jail!'

C.f. "The science of psilocybin and its use to relieve suffering" by researcher at John's Hopkins.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=81-v8ePXPd4

By all means be cautious. But the only one being foolish in denying the benefits is you.

Already did that - 'Pure MDMA' is only verified via lab test, which aren't around at most clubs. Popping pills from god-knows-where is not advised for the long term. Just trying to help.
