Is pretty boy having a cashflow problem? I really dont see the point of fighting a guy half his age who is not even a boxer. I highly highly doubt Floyd is training mma.

It's suicide. That kid dismantled a prime Lumpinee stadium champ under Muay Thai rules.

If it's a kickboxing fight, Floyd will be in for a lot of pain.

I'm more curious when Floyd will face his toughest opponent yet - retirement.

Floyd VS Sakuraba , mma rules. I would tune in for that . Sakuraba is older but would destroy Floyd.

Every time I hear of Floyd Mayweather Jr. "unretiring", I think he needs some quick cash. Did he spend all that cash from the Pacquiao & McGregor fights already? He can't possibly burn through his cash faster than The Joker can.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the fight. Will watch on someone else's TV since I won't fall for the PPV cheese again.

He allegedly had $50,000,000 in gambling losses. And he's probably not overly responsible with his money otherwise either.

Floyd is the most well managed fighter in history, the odds of him taking a fight with rules that he has less than a 98% of winning are nil.

RE: Floyd Mayweather: Boxer to fight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan
Disappointing but predictable details emerge about Floyd Mayweather vs Tenshin Nasukawa

Quote:Shock, horror, Floyd Mayweather isn't going to let himself be pummelled by the kicks of an undefeated kickboxer

Mayweather, a master pugilist and an expert in keeping relevant, raised plenty of eyebrows when he aligned himself with Japanese mixed martial arts promotion RIZIN FF on Monday morning.

No more additional information was given in the press conference other than the fact that Mayweather would be facing off with unbeaten 20-year-old kickboxing phenom Tenshin Nasukawa.

No details on the rule set or weight or gloves were provided but we were always reluctant to believe that 'Money' would be willing to leave his comfort zone, even slightly.

Being one of the most business-savvy fighters in combat sports history, Mayweather was never going to allow kicks or takedowns and let's be honest, he was even going to be unlikely to wear 4oz. gloves because his hands are notoriously brittle.

Well, Boxing Scene has offered us the most likely scenario because according to their sources, the bout will probably be no more than an exhibition boxing match, which could end up being no longer than three rounds.

Disappointing? Yes. Predictable? Absolutely.

Mayweather will likely be paid handsomely by RIZIN for a fight against a man who is significantly smaller and the 41-year-old won't even have to go through an arduous training camp because he could fight a short exhibition match tomorrow morning.

It would also represent no risk to Mayweather's legacy as an improbable defeat against Nasukawa would not cause a blemish to his pristine 50-0 boxing record.

It's a win-win for both parties as RIZIN would earn mainstream attention on both their brand and one of their most promising young fighters, while Mayweather gets a payday, keeps his name in the headlines and receives something of a tune-up contest if he actually intends to come out of retirement for real for a lucrative rematch against Manny Pacquiao next year.

Who would have thought!

At this point I am expecting him to announce fights against a bear or a tiger, considering that he can get a bigger piece of the money pie that way.

Agreed. Not planning to spend a penny on this. At least not directly. Did waste money on PPV for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight (had some friends over at that time so at least there was a get together revolved around it). Saw the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight on a big screen at a strip club. I'm sure the club charged a bit higher cover fee that night to enter. That experience wasn't so bad actually. Wonder how big the hype train / marketing machine will be leading up to the proposed Mayweather vs. Nasukawa fight that is being discussed.

Who would have thought!

Fortis and I were talking about this a few days ago. I was telling him about all the boxers I used to train that switched to MMA and how many of them would tap out during a match, with anywhere from 5 to 20 leg kicks. I personally have gotten wins from leg kicks my opponent could not tolerate.

Muay Thai is a young man's game. A dude at 20 with high testosterone and dense bones can fill the entire gym with a loud ass pow sound on leg kicks. No older man like Floyd with no MT background can tolerate even a few of those. He isn't going to spend 2+ years learning how to check leg kicks either.

The reason why you do not see leg kick tap outs in UFC, K1, or Bellator is because that caliber of professional can handle that. If you watch low level amateur, exhibition, or sparring matches in Thailand or even the West, you can on occasion see someone tap out or give up from leg kicks. Happens alllll the time.

Floyd isn't trying to have his pristine image destroyed in seconds by a blow that looked like Anderson Silva or Stylebender hit him. Floyd with his eyes rolled back in his skull would never be the same again image wise.

I knew he was going to do something cheesy to avoid it.

Checking a leg kick is a pretty simple move, he could learn it in a couple weeks. It's learning how to kick properly that takes years. He'd have to change everything from his stance to his guard. All that fancy head movement he does would get him knocked out in kickboxing.

He would have an advantage at the mid range, but he's not exactly a heavy handed puncher either. Not sure why he'd even entertain this match honestly. Ali got fucked up by a Japanese fighter kicking him from his back. This would be 10x worse.

erm...checking a leg kick isn't quite as simple as you make out.

Sure, you can just lift your leg and take the impact on the shin. Which won't be painful really as any half decent fighter will pull the power rather than clatter into a raised leg at full force.

Problem is, what are you gonna do the next time when the kick changes course mid point and aims for the arms, calf or standing leg instead?

Leg kicking is almost like a sport in itself the amount of depth there is to it.

For anyone that really wants to understand, I recommend no shin guard leg kick sparring. It's super popular in Thailand as they have the control not to fuck each other up. This will the point when 99% of people realise they know the square root of fuck all.

If it's a kick to the arms, it's not a leg kick then is it. I think what youre talking about is a question mark kick and yeah by definition they're hard to read.

In most cases, I'd rather eat the leg kick and counter with a right cross. Being on one leg is almost never a good strategy imo.

Shin guards are dumb. If you can't take a leg kick soft sparring, then it's probably better to take up something like ping pong.

You've totally missed my point I'm afraid. Truthfully, from your answer, I think it's gone over your head.

P.S. A "?" kick is a head kick disguised as a body kick disguised initially as a rear teep. Nothing to do with leg kicks.

P.P.S. Shin guards are certainly not "dumb".

I didn't miss your point it just had nothing to do with Kai's statement. Checking leg kicks is one of the simplest moves in Muay Thai, and definitely does not take years to learn. The follow up to a leg check, guarding sweeps, etc is another thing entirely.

If you don't take leg kicks without shinguards in sparring, they'll cripple you in actual fight. They have limited utility for learning to develop power. But the heavy bag works just as well for that.

You're making the mistake all beginners or armchair trainers make, which is that defending a technique from another beginner or when you know it's coming is easy, sure.

Lifting you leg in the air....yup, easy. In isolation.

That check is a little harder when your opponent can fake and delay and generally make it bloody hard to time right.

Which you would know and appreciate if you knew what you were talking about; the amount of decent-back-home westerners I have seen here have their legs smashed to pieces before being clinched into oblivion by Thais is more than I can count. I bet they all thought they knew how to check a leg kick too.

One of my own guys had this happen to him a few years back.

It's not without risk though. You can easily eat a right hand leg kicking, especially from a boxer of floyds caliber. Happens all the time. And its goodnight.

Thais wrecking falangs under a thai rules match? I'm shocked lol. They don't seem to do too well in K1 and other kickboxing tourneys though.

Having said that, I'd never standup with a thai. I'd take them down, and G&P.
