This is so ridiculous it's so funny how insistent left leaning people are to be/seem superior/smarter/more informed than others that they literally make up random bullshit that's so transparent. I can't imagine being that psychologically fucked up

LOL. This is why climate change, all men are rapists, a million genders, and Barack Obama being the first black president is chanted until ad nauseum. Keep repeating propaganda in the age of snowflakism and you ironically enough are like everybody else.

It's a pretty easy ad hominem when something like 1/5 to 2/5 of the US population is based out of the South and you have Protestant Pastors with no formal education making millions of dollars (backing the Republicans no less) and then Republican politicians there who are indeed bible thumper morons. So it will be extremely hard to shake off that stereotype of Republicans being idiots.

Whereas in Canada the situation seems to be opposite: the last Canadian Prime Minister was a trained economist whereas the current Prime Minister was a substitute drama teacher until entering politics.

One thing too between American conservatives and conservatives from other countries, the latter were out of power for at least a decade and didn't purge out anyone to the slight left of them. Their religious nuts were kept in line. They were forced to change and reached out to constituencies American conservatives would generally write off because outreach is equal to socialism or some BS excuse to keep the status quo.

It hasn't helped either when you've had Michelle Bachmann, a crazy theocrat being the face of conservatives for a short period of time.

This is an unpopular opinion: Donald Trump's candidacy is actually a giant "Fuck You" to the conservatives, neo-cons and the Religious Right for purging out the moderates in the Republican Party over the last half-century and forcing ideological purity. Another unpopular opinion: As wishy-washy as moderates can be, they were the brains of the GOP and helped bring ideas that made conservatives more appealing which resulted in the Reagan Presidency.

Moderates also had an appeal that made it hard for Democrats to run their scare-mongering propaganda that all Republicans want to start a Holocaust of minorities and bring back slavery or some bullshit like that.

I always saw Trump as more of a moderate Republican with conservative leanings.

Conservatives treated Reagan like their own despite he did things that were not "conservative" in their minds. When George HW Bush raised taxes after he said he wouldn't, conservatives got mad and took it out on the remaining moderates in Congress.

When you have a GOP with moderates gone, you have Presidents like George W. Bush. The party was split in the Obama years looking back on it.

Back to the subject for the post, anyone who's been to college knows it's pretty much an SJW indoctrination center disguised as a college. Even the Business and Economic professor have gone full neo-liberal.

Even the accounting and economics professors hate Trump and go all out on corporation ass-eating and think Democrats can do no wrong.

Broadly, I agree with you. I don't see Trump as a particularly conservative President in many respects, but he's governed conservatively when it comes to immigration and the judiciary. His approach to the budget and trade was decidedly not conservative.Trump's presidency is significantly a backlash to the Tea Party, Religious Right/Moral Majority types who've dominated the GOP for the last 20 years. Nobody voted for Trump due to his upstanding moral character.

It's critical to understand that Trump's major appeal was, largely, not his policies. It's that he wasn't Hillary Clinton.

If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

Good point on him not being Clinton is his major appeal.

This is something I posted in the Trump thread, but wanted to bring it here.

Here's something from a guy who hates Trump that shows how much Trump reached out to groups Republicans generally wrote off in elections or face backlash from the Moral Majority/Religious Right types. That wouldn't have been possible back in 2012 or 2008.

Huh

Hillary is a chronically unlikable, incompetent candidate whose consistent modus operandi has been "IT'S MY TURN SO YOU BETTER GIVE IT TO ME!" Many people outright hate her.

Most of Trump's policies, outside possibly the tax cut, were not major concerns for many Americans. Trump's victory resulted from a rejection of Obama, with the understanding that Hillary represented another term of Obama, and the fact that anyone but Hillary Clinton was a preferable choice. You have to keep in mind that the DNC had to rig the nomination to coronate Hillary. She ran against a comically weak field. She wasn't popular even in her own party.

If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

I think both of you guys are missing the issue that electrified the voter base: immigration. Trump won on that, or his promises to get it under control.

Trump isn't a "moderate" conservative - he's not a conservative at all. He ran a nationalist platform, which socially speaking was pretty liberal. Borders, immigration, and globalization are the main issues of the new right. Conservatism is dying, and when the boomers go will be entirely moribund.

RE: Professor says Trump has zero politcal skill
Globalism and AntiGlobalism are not really connected to ideology.

Conservatives used to be the globalists for the long time. Even SJW if I dare say it. "White Man's Burden" was the idea among mainly conservatives that white people had to go out to the global boonies to uplift all the savages (which inevitably brought in interracial mixing, 2-way migration and even some tolerance of fusion culture).

Socialism used to be anti-Globlaist before Karl Marx kind of corrupted it. Karl Marx's writings weren't as influential on 1848 Revolutions (which were highly nationalistic) as opposed to say the 1910s.
