Is this all the wisdom the Elders have to bestow upon us? Damn them.

We know a lot more about CONQUERING it.

Which would I sacrifice first? The death of thousands vs the death of a nation...

This Boomerposting, man... It's aggravating.

Obviously you never knew anyone killed in an attack or disaster.

But if there's anyone who would know about losing territory, it would be a Portuguese.

RE: Another Day in Paris: Notre Dame is Burning
The most famous significant religious monument in all of Europe, after successfully standing for 1000 years and surviving a number of occupations and two World Wars, just happens to catch a massive fire like this during Easter, after a series of churches already having burned down by diversity? And the rapid firefighting response in a rich 1st world city somehow happens to fail exactly at that moment?

I call BS.

In regards to the firefighters... Only theory I may have is that due to the age of Notre Dame it isn't that easy to just dump thousands of pounds of water on the structure. These classic structures are robust but delicate at the same time and it may be that attacking that fire with traditional volumes of water may weaken certain points in the structure leading to more deep level damage.

Correct, that is the explanation for no airborne water. But why it took them two hours to get there? Rush hour. Not sure I'm 100% buying that part.

They are not using Canadairs because it risks destroying the remaining stuff inside ( including the paints).

So far no terrorism indications.

Voilà. Will keep you informed about the french news.

During his 1969 landmark series Civilisation, Kenneth Clark mused: “What is civilisation? I don’t know. I can’t define it in abstract terms, yet. But I think I can recognise it when I see it.” Turning to Notre Dame, he then added: “And I’m looking at it now.”

I guess it's equally likely that one of the renovation workers flicked a cigarette butt in the direction of a vat of kerosine they keep in the corner to fuel the church lamps.

If the French authorities did already have indications that it was a terrorist act, then would they be telling us that at this point?

The most disgusting part of all this is seeing it burn while people watch and do nothing. It's surreal. A symbol of reaching the lowest low.

Someone remarked that Notre Dame burning was a terrible sign of the times, I think all of the raping at Cologne and the resultant births was a far more significant one.

For fuck's sake, the levels of tinfoil silliness reaching an all-time high. If you lot spent less time on Tinder you would know fires during renovations of ancient buildings with wood framework are not unusual, unfortunately, due to sparks from welding, short circuits, etc. You don't even need renovation works. Some more or less recent examples: Windsor Castle, the Opera Theatre in Venice, the Liceu Theatre in Barcelona or the Leon Cathedral.

It's like reading deluded feminists but in reverse.

Churches being burned down in France and wider Europe is not a widely reported narrative in MSM, its mid paper-backpage stuff. To people, this will be the first large story of its kind.

They can of course say its renovation work that caused this.

In the US firefighters ran up the stairs of an 80 story burning bldg.

Peeing on it would be more than they are doing now

There are no stairs to run up. And the damage conventional firefighting would do to the interior would be worse than the fire.

The interior is largely hollow.

Not fighting the fire is going to be seen as a mistake in retrospect

The structure of the building was not a secret. Surely there was a fire suppression plan more robust than surrender.
