The "Woke" Show/Movie Thread...
A list of TV shows/movies that rise above the ignorance, equally entertaining and provoking your thoughts on critical issues long after the credits stop rolling. Yawn!

Perhaps avoid watching these unless you love hating yourself and or pain is love or something. Whip

If you got any shows/movies that you want to add just make a brief comment as to why they are "Woke".

"Being woke doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s a process of resisting social conditioning, to challenge problematic norms and injustices that are perpetuated in media to which we are constantly exposed." -SJW's Everywhere.

TV Shows:

"Dear White People" - This Netflix series reminds you to check your privilege and addresses the complexities of prejudice that take different forms like whether it’s white or light-skinned privilege, sexism, or homophobia.

"Orange Is the New Black" - This Netflix series features humanizing and heavy backstories ranging from drug and sexual abuse to transgender injustice, passive racism and blatant racism (“white lives matter”), present varying perspectives of racial injustices.

"When We Rise" - This ABC series explores the evolution of gay rights, viewers get crucial exposure to intersectional discrimination against the marginalized LGBTQ+ community that continues to be perpetuated even after same-sex marriage is legalized.

"Black-ish" - This ABC series provides an accurate depiction of what it’s like for a black family to come to terms with its cultural identity within a white upper-class neighbourhood, along with social commentary on the Black Lives Matter movement and or police brutality.

"The Fosters" - This ABC Family/Freeform series shows us that a perfect family doesn’t have to be a traditional one, following the trials and tribulations of a lesbian bi-racial couple and their children one biological and four adopted. The characters prove that acceptance and self-confidence is independent of gender and sexual identity.

"The Carmichael Show" - This NBC series tackles concerns from racism and Donald Trump to sexual consent and Bill Cosby and bringing attention to serious social and political issues.

"Atlanta" - This FX series reveals the everyday realities of a community structured by racial and class hierarchies, managing to integrate scenes of police brutality, gang violence, homophobia and drug use.

"Transparent" - This Amazon Video series features the first openly transgender writer for a show and follows the journey of a college professor’s transition from male to female. The comedy-drama details the anxieties that come with self-discovery in a cisgender world that lacks proper trans representation.

"The Mindy Project" - This Fox series features a successful woman in male-dominated fields at times portrays situations of gender biases and white privilege that become especially prominent in the Trump era.

"Sense8" - This Netflix series celebrates what it means to be human, no matter what each character’s sexual identity, privilege, LGBTQ+, and class are.

Movies:

"Black Panther" - This 2018 film touches on colonization, inner-city inequality etc. It’s set in Africa and features an almost all-black cast.

"Snatched" - This 2017 film features a lesbian couple whose paths keep crossing. Amy Schumer bragged prior to the film’s release that she ordered a sequence involving a gun to be removed following the Orlando mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Florida with left 49 people dead.

"Annihilation" - This 2018 film features a mostly feminist female cast in the kind of sci-fi adventure men typically dominate.

"Ghostbusters" - This 2016 reboot film features a mostly feminist female cast, I guess most of the men were scared off the planet by slimer and Leslie Jones.

"Ocean's Eight" - This 2018 reboot film features a mostly female cast because Ocean's 11 needed to be more Woke with feminism.

"Get Out" - This 2017 film features white characters that are always racist and leans heavy on Asian, Black, and White stereotypes.

"Captain Marvel" - This 2019 film features man-hating third-wave feminist actress Brie Larson. Brie Larson attacked fathers, sons, and brothers. Why would we give money to people who hate us?

Tom Leykis / Leykis 101:

-Never do what you don't want to do. You make the money, you decide where you are going and what you are doing.
-Don't ask a woman what she wants to do.
-Never get involved with a co-worker unless you don't mind losing your job over it.
-Never spend more than $40 on a date. If possible, let her pay for everything or 50/50.
-If she doesn't bang you by the third date, Dump That Bitch (DTB).
-No spooning, cuddling, hugging, or staying over. Get in, get out!
-Never be in a committed relationship UNTIL you are 25+ or really ready to settle down.
-Men age like fine wine, women age like milk.

RE: The "Woke" Show/Movie Thread...
I have to answer "maybe". I've seen Black Panther and Captain Marvel but I didn't pay to see them. Black Panther was watchable, but it took several tries to make it through Marvel and I skipped through a lot of it.

I've seen 1 episode of The Mindy Project. She plays a gynecologist, which they describe as a "male-dominated field" except over 85 percent of obstetricians and gynecologists are women.

I haven't seen any of the others.

Some more:

The Handmaid’s Tale
American Crime Story
Seven Seconds
Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas
I Love You, America

I quite enjoyed Get Out, despite the propaganda. His follow up 'Us' was just terrible, as far as plot/acting/everything and way more heavy handed with the wokeness, though.

It's hard to take seriously list that places a light-hearted fantasy with a few SJW motifs like the Black Panther into the same category as hateful monstrosities like "Dear White People" and "When We Rise".

Obviously there are different levels of "Wokeness" but that movie makes my list as the buzz/praise for the Black Panther was that it was Afrocentric and Woke and therefore amazing. Like if it was the first/only black superhero movie ever.

There's also some Star Wars films that could be on my list but I'm sure folks will add some on their own in accordance with their own "Woke" tolerance level.

I simply listed some off the top of my head that are considered "Woke" for varying reasons. No one has to agree with my list and folks are free to post their own list here too and or disagree with mine and state why. It's all good!

Some black superhero movies before The Black Panther:
Hancock (2008)
Blade I - III
Steel (1997)

Blade and Hancock are films that I actually like.

It's important to keep an eye on what the other side is up to, but that can be done by following 2 or 3 globohomo news sources on social media and briefly checking leftist alternative media (Splinter, Vox, etc) on an adblocked browser once or twice a week. No need to waste hours of your life on that crap.

RE: The "Woke" Show/Movie Thread...
Well, at least your woke American TV shows aren't very good. It's easy to say "this show sucks" based on any number of complaints, lame woke-ness being one of them.

Here in Canada the propaganda is much subtler and devastating.

They slowly build up characters that we come to love, then, finally start dialing up the faggotry, feminism and race mixing and all the Canadian women viewers just melt. The shows also shit all over white people non-stop, but in over-the-top sarcastic ways that are genuinely funny and leave any normal/conservative person thinking "that's a funny joke" and any woke liberals with a confirmation of "see that's how things work".

Last few years we've had:

-Schitt's Creek - Fags have feelings too, and damn they can sing when necessary.
-Kim's Convenience - Look at these cute Asians (Koreans) - just like us but with funny accents, living in a diverse but whitewashed community.
-Murdoch Mysteries - Women are all intelligent and independent (lie), and contributed much to our history of science (lie), and fought their own grassroots political movements (lie) because they just couldn't take the men going on any longer without recognizing their brilliance and learned opinions should count too.

All these shows are winding down now/soon. Hopefully to be replaced by worse propaganda shows that at least people won't enjoy watching so much...

"Booksmart" - This 2019 film is the culmination of Hollywood's obsession with woke storytelling. A feminist teen comedy that seems to be an SJW's dream project but it's bound to be a riot if "you're down" with emasculated, ignorant young white males, ghetto culture, lesbianism, etc.

It's Olivia Wilde's directorial debut, plus she told Trump supporters not to watch her film and it's currently flopping. Whip

The last 2 seasons of Strike Back, with the new cast, have gone all SJW too, bisexual Mary Sue character and all. Sure enough, turns out that the director is a tranny. I'll still watch it, but the original seasons were much better.

Your list is woefully incomplete. Almost everything is woke these days. At least Godzilla isn't, but based on Rotten Tomatoes it has more general quality problems.

Here's another show that should be on the list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She%27s_Go...TV_series)

The movie was woke before there was woke. Now the idea of a black woman shamelessly riding on the carousel isn't that shocking anymore.

Ever since Sex and the City it was OK to do you-go-girl carousel shows. Here's another (this time animated):

https://www.vox.com/2019/5/3/18527202/tu...h-ali-wong

You'd be better with a non-woke show/movie thread.

I was thrilled to find out that Archer is actually getting new episodes.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/05/30/...ty-review/

It's probably the last hope for non-woke TV.

If you've never seen "The Good Fight" you've never seen fem-centric wokeness. Legal lawyercunt drama with strong empowered womyn of all diversities.

It was supposed to be a spinoff of an older show "The Good Wife", but this show is literally the propaganda arm of the Democratic party - they're so anti-Trump they don't even bother making a fake character to represent him but have an entire season dedicated to make fun of him (mention him by name) and spread SJW propaganda hate-lies, from Melania to Russian collusion and "Russian troll bot farms" that stole the election.

So blatant I've never seen anything like it.

Makes sense as CBS All Access is SJW central thanks to Star Trek: Discovery and Jordan Peele's Twilight Zone.

Black Panther was atrocious. I made myself watch it a couple months ago, to try to see what the actual fuss was about. I can't remember a single interesting or redeeming thing about it. Even ignoring the woke-ness themes, the tropes were one atop another, like getting bopped in the head with a hammer every few moments.

Yes, I understand your reasoning, but if you simply played Black Panther to a random person without any context, it wouldn't come across as "massively off" like the other SJW entertainment products listed here, in whose cases you can simply feel the hatred and propaganda oozing out of them without knowing anything about LGBT, politics, race and current events.

RE: The "Woke" Show/Movie Thread...
The most dangerous pieces of propaganda are not the heavy handed and obvious ones like the examples above, but rather the subtle and perhaps even the unintended ones.

I was recently helping my mom clear out a basement storage unit because she is moving out soon and there were basically 20 years of crap in there because both her and me have a problem with throwing stuff out, so it was a trip down memory lane. One of the things I found was the DVDs of the first two seasons of my favorite show growing up: The OC. I can tell you I was really into that stupid soap-opera. I had a massive crush on Mischa Barton, in fact, I used to cut out pictures of her and paste them to my school notebooks and she was a regular feature in my adolescent dreams. I put the DVDs in the 'give away' pile but I kept thinking about them.

Since I watched them so many times I still remember a lot of it and even with the present awareness I can't really recall anything spectacularly subversive about it. It was a teen drama with rich kids and cute girls, but something survived that show and it certainly wasn't miss Barton - don't even look for current pictures, it's too sad. No, what survived was the subtle and I think largely unintended promotion of the geek as the model which every kid that wasn't a jock should aspire to be. Maybe it was purposeful, I don't know, since the character was Jewish (and so was the creator, I just checked). For those who've watched the show - and I know some of you loved Mischa as much as I did - you know I'm talking about Seth Cohen.

He wasn't the lead - he was quite clearly the sidekick to the alpha. And yet, his nerdy obsessions and quirky personality molded an entire generation and became the example for all the soyboy numales. The character was not supposed to be cool, and yet he was. He was obsessed with comic books and pop culture, and yet he got a hot girl - not just any girl, but the girl he always dreamed of. He succeeds in life despite not really doing anything of value or putting any real effort into anything other than his stupid nerd stuff. While the alpha was always getting into trouble, trying to save the girl from this or that, and even becomes successful in academic pursuits because he puts the effort in, the nerd just breezed through life unharmed and got what he wanted in the end just the same, without any struggle. It was clear that the alpha type was the hero, but the lesson was clear: better be the nerd. You don't need struggle, you don't need strength: just obsess about pop culture and everything will be fine in the end.

I am not sure it was intended or not - most likely it was just the creator's fantasies of nerd revenge - but even if it was: the propaganda was subtle. They didn't come right out and put Seth Cohen as the lead, portraying his nerd obsessions as heroic and giving him the best looking girl. Instead, they gave him the slightly less attractive girl, that had and caused a lot less problems and had him just breeze through life, as if no strife is ever needed. Isn't this the philosophy of the pacified, pop culture obsessed millennial?

I'm sure there are many other examples of this subtle subversion - South Park being another, influencing an entire generation into sarcastic dismissiveness and dumb lolbertarianism pretending to be philosophy disguised as satire.

The hard preaching is for those who are already converted. Anodyne shows like The OC probably do a lot more damage. You catch more flies with honey.

Don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose.

I never got the impression that "Annihilation" was a sjw-woke propaganda movie. I actually liked it. Despite the woman carrying weapons and wearing military garb, they certainly weren't portrayed as Mary Sue badasses... quite to the contrary if I remember correctly. They each were flawed and/or broken women, not particularly competent, and were often met the fate generally reserved for male characters.

Read reviews of the movie at the time and they made a big "you go girl" deal out of this, especially the lesbian component. It was a virtue-signal. It could have been softened by creating a technobabble explanation but they didn't do it.

Note that a key plot-point in Annihilation is Portman's character cheating on her lover. She's really not a very sympathetic character even though she's the protagonist.

And also have to remember that Annihilation was made by the same guy who brought us Ex Machina which says men are feckless one-itis blue-pillers or abusive alphas, both deserving death.

For the record, I liked Ex Machina when it first came out but as has been explained up-thread, once you learn to decode ideological messaging you see things a different way. There is a virulent strain of misandry in movies today. Rarely do you see any positive male role models, men who get the girl, men and women in mutually happy and healthy relationships. The genders are presented very firmly in an oppressor/oppressed frame, or at the very least, one in which women are ascending and men are in some shape or form, not measuring up or attempting to keep women from their entitlements (think Captain Marvel).

New TV is almost all garbage these days. Common threads in 90% of new shows.

Black man boss = good
White / Black woman = good
White man = bad/token

That's it, almost every show out there.

RE: The "Woke" Show/Movie Thread...
i finally sat down and watched Hannibal seasons 1-3 over the last few months. I'm a big fan of Mads Mikkelsen and I always lked the original books and movies. I think Mads was actually the best version of Hannibal Lecter, even better than Anthony Hopkins. The show itself was pretty outstanding. Lot of violence and gore, and really well written for the most part.

The problem with the show is- they started pushing the idea that Hannibal, and the main character, Will Graham, were in love with each other. And I don't mean in a "hey we're both crazy let's bond and kill people" kind of way, but in an actual "we are in love" kind of way.

The backstory here is that the show didn't have the rights to the character of Clarice Starling for some reason, who in the books at least, does indeed fall in love with Hannibal in the end and they start a relationship together while on the run from the FBI.

So, the writers/producers of the show decide to start pushing the gay relationship idea with Hannibal and Will instead, copying whole sections of the Clarice story.

season 3 ends on a cliffhanger, but there's been a lot of hope from the cast and writers over the years that netflix or someone will pick the show up and they can do another season at least, where they can finally explore that gay relationship apparently.

anyhow, Mads is such a good actor and he's phenomenal in the role, but yeah, that forced plot point actually ruins the show for me. if you ever wanna watch it, go for it, but i'd say just watch seasons 1 and 2 and skip 3 and anything else in the future entirely.

IMHO, Thomas Harris was the original subverting expectations guy, long before Rian Johnson. I think he became resentful of his own success and decided to push the plot into self-parody for the sake of spiteful franchise suicide and die-hard fans failed to realize it. But shipping Clarice with a cannibal is even worse than ReyLo shipping. It reinforces the worst stereotypes of female attraction to dark-triad.

"Batwoman" - This CW series features an androgynous looking ma'am/bat as shown in the image below clearly displaying the shows leanings.

I stopped watching Doctor Who ages ago and now the doctor is a woman. I have no idea if the current show is any good, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's as below.

The new Doctor Who is basically Magic School Bus for SJW reeducation.
