The tri-city Poland - Which city to choose?
Hi All,

There's quite some information on the forum about this area of Poland. However, not much has been mentioned about the exact logistics of living in the area medium to long term. My lease in Gdynia might be running out and it would be great if some of you guys who are living/have lived here long term can chime in if it's better to move to Sopot or Gdansk and if so which areas. Some pros and cons I have found over the last few months mostly related to Gdynia:

Gdynia:
Pros - beach in the city center, some of the best pubs in the tri-city eg. Kontrast, Bollywood lounge etc. all by the beach (good for pre-drinking), No stag parties, lowest cost of living in tri city, very few foreigners around during low season. Logistics wise, anyplace by plac kaszubski/the pier will do for a short time stay. Not many erasmus students(pro and con)

Cons: Not a university town so lesser student activities going on - only 1 major technical uni and you know what that means.., no proper City square to get that busy vibe/hustle like in other cities, more like a family town almost all the girls are walking around with a guy, Saturday nights can be very dull - everybody goes to sopot, dressing style of girls have been a let down for the most part compared to the South of Poland/ Warsaw, obesity seems to be a big problem in comparison

Sopot, visited a number of times, I won't recommend somebody living there long term. Rent is too costly for what its worth and it's MAYBE good only during summer, becomes a suburb other times of the year. The locals have seen enough foreigners. People growing up in Sopot usually move to Gdynia to settle down.

So, I am wondering if Gdansk is better than Gdynia? Bigger population, more students, nightlife and the beaches arent as good but there might be more happening other times of the day? Friends of mine have commented that they are hearing more Russian/Eastern accents walking outside than in the past. The old town doesn't seem particularly busy but maybe I was in the wrong part of the city. Hipsterish lifestyles have affected Gdansk more it seems but I haven't lived there so cant comment on a daily basis.

In my experience, I won't consider Gdynia and Sopot cities outside peak season.

Will be great if someone can break down the logistics of Gdansk further, the general vibe and their comparison of Gdansk with other cities. A comparison with Gdynia/Sopot will also be good.

Cheers.

It all depends on your Game. If you run Daygame and approach in the streets then Gdansk is the best year-round option.

You could stay in Gdynia cheaper at a better place, but then would be away from the action.

However in terms of logistics all 3 cities are easy enough to travel through. They are all one city similar to living in two districts of London.

I would pick Gdansk for a guy wanting action.

Gdynia is when you have already settled down with one.

Sopot is when you are a sugardaddy - it's the sugardaddy epicenter of Poland - lots of older richer guys bring their sidegirls to Sopot, have them as live-in girls - visit them from trips from Warsaw or after retirement. Though it's somewhat ok in the summer as well as girls all from Poland travel to the Sopot beach.

Had the same thoughts about gdynia. For some reason, lots of young people settling down/wanting to settle down choose gdynia and they come from all parts of poland, probably the most livable city in poland in terms of the seaside, air quality, foresty areas etc. You see lots of couples along the main street/'square'. The absence of a proper Rynek hurts the ambiance of the city from a social point of view.

Sopot is a strange one, the nightlife is not the best way to go here but it does have a lot of pull online because of its location between the 2 cities.

I wont say gdansk is much more expensive than gdynia though looking at rent. But it's more spread out with more students. Suburbs like Wrzeszcz might be good areas with lots of students, lots of people even from gdynia like doing their shopping there. But nightlife isnt much better than gdynia. Simeon, is the old town area still busy during winter?
