RE: Hong Kong protests 2019
It's already past 5am in the morning in Hong Kong and the police siege of the protestors inside the polytechnic university is still continuing. Protestor supplies of molotov cocktails (petrol bombs) and other projectiles and weapons in the university are allegedly running low, as the fighting there has been going on for almost a full 24 hours now.

Clashes are also continuing in surrounding areas and roads around to divert police attention from the university. However, the police have made a cordon in the various streets around the university preventing other protestors from bringing reinforcements.
Some police have been spotted holding A-15 semi automatic rifiles.

The 2 livestreams I posted above are both still working.

Protestors have retreated from the street to inside the university building.
Police have tried to storm the steps of the university and get inside the building but were met with a huge barrage of petrol bombs.
One of the university entrances is now fully on fire.

Past 7am in Hong Kong.
Morning sun has come up.
Police have retreated from around the polytechnic university.
Several hundred protestors have decided to stay inside.
So stalemate....for now.

Thanks Caduceus for the update .
Pardon my ignorance but is the HK police made of Hong-Kongers or made of Chinese or a mix ? I do not know much about this part of the world.

RE: Hong Kong protests 2019
Hundreds and hundreds of protestors are now walking out of the university.
Seems like an agreement was reached to not attack anymore if they all left the campus peacefully.
Looks like a potential disaster has been averted.

I'm guessing the students probably ran out of molotov cocktails (petrol bombs) and other "weapons" to battle the police with, and decided it was in their best interests to walk out to fight another day.

However, this situation is still ongoing.
It's not clear yet if really everyone inside has actually left the university.
Also, it's not clear if they are being arrested or are being allowed to just walk away.

I don't know the answer to this, but I think to be a police officer in HK you need to have a Hong Kong passport which mainland Chinese citizens obviously do not have.

I don't know the answer to this, but I think to be a police officer in HK you need to have a Hong Kong passport which mainland Chinese citizens obviously do not have.

There have been rumors that many "HK Police" are Mainland police or PLA Hong Kong Garrison soldiers wearing HK police uniforms.

The only proof is that some cops were caught speaking Mandarin to each other and referring to each other as "comrades", one was speaking in a Taishan Cantonese accent and wasn't familiar with the HK media corporations, and some cops hold a baton in the standard Mainland Gong'an stance instead of the standard HKPF stance. There has been no official confirmations of any of that from the government, except for photo and video evidence from frontline reporters.

It is up to the individual to decide whether this is sufficient evidence of Mainland security personnel wearing HKPF uniforms mixing in with regular HKPF.

But to be an actual member of the HKPF, you need to a Hong Kong permanent resident. Mainland immigrants or non-Chinese are allowed to be HKPF as long as they have fully qualified as Hong Kong permanent residents, and satisfy basic requirements in English and Chinese/Cantonese. There are still over 60 White British commanders on the force, and with many Filipinos and South Asians having gone through the local schooling system and qualified for permanent residency, there are now some, but still very few percentage wise, junior officers in the HKPF of that background.

RE: Hong Kong protests 2019
Looks like more than a few hundred protestors are still inside the polytechnical university. Around a hundred have just run out, run along the outside of the building and then jumped a fence to go back inside in another entrance of the university after being chased by police outside.

The situation at the university is far from over...but it seems like the police have them surrounded now.
It doesn't look good.

Meanwhile, clashes continue in other streets around the university.
Quite a few white shirt wearing office workers have gone onto the streets as well.

Odd that the students are being left to fend for themselves when grassroots protests were so well populated just a week or two ago.

Are people tiring of the protests or did the students go too far and piss everyone off?

God demands of Man responsibility. God demands of Woman vulnerability. These are their curse and blessing alike. Libertianism is to Man as Feminism is to Woman.

People with kids to ferry to and pick up from school and mortgages to pay are not going to join them in the fighting.

Whether they are with them in the Hearts and Minds struggle is hard to tell from this distance.

The police has blocked all roads leading to the university.
Thousands have come out onto the streets to support the trapped protestors at the university but they can't reach them...so they are causing chaos all across the city and fighting with police at various points. It looks almost like a war zone.

Hong Kong protesters and students are yelling their name and saying they are not suicidal while being arrested in fear of disappearing.

Wow this could mean the end of the "One country, two systems" policy. Specifically the death of “separation of powers” in HK, a doctrine fundamental to the common law rule of law - and one Beijing now comprehensively rejects.

They're run by falung gong who immolate themselves in protests and camp 24/7 around chinese embassies in all kinds of countries with posters claiming organ harvesting - crazy people long before the current situation, so take this stuff with a grain of salt. For all we know it's staged so they get more credibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if falung gong plays a huge role in violent parts of the protests as well as they are rabid anti China and Hong Kong seems to be their main base.

Yes it's probably staged, or it could be just a warning against the Epoch Times. If they wanted to burn the place down, they would have set that mountain of paper on fire, which would have created an unstoppable inferno, as opposed to burning up a liter of gasoline on the concrete floor.

Edit- Watching the video the second time, it does look like it was staged. Look at the "action" in the first 20 seconds, it's all perfectly centered in the middle of the CC camera, very much as if it were staged.

If this were a real attempt by Chinese forces, they would have for instance knocked off their power first, and easily set the large paper inventory on fire without any increminating camera footage.

RE: Hong Kong protests 2019
Most of the 1000 or so protestors inside the polytechnical university have given themselves over to police after a few mediators went inside to talk to them.

A few tried to escape underground via the sewer system but were apparently unsuccessful ? Others tried to make a run for it during night time past the police cordon but were caught. The only ones who seem to have escaped successfully were those who climbed down the 3 ropes from the footbridge and were picked up by motorcycles...Police managed to close this escape route as well after a while.

The enormous crowds on the surrounding streets who had fought against police all day Monday and tried to reach them, were unsucessful...but they caused a hell of lot of damage and chaos in many different streets.

It seem like there still are around 100 in the university who refuse to come out and be arrested. Police have not gone in to get them....yet.

Short video showing the current situation right now.

Recap of yesterday's events, showing the outside crowds trying to reach the university:

Today, a few more made a run for it to escape from inside the surrounded university on the roof of a footbridge.
It's unclear if they were caught, or managed to get away.

More still remain inside:
