Is there truth to this or is it hocus pocus?

I’ve never paid that much attention to the field, but I have noticed that my closest relationships have tended to be indeed who astrological websites show are compatible to mine.

When I read the overview of how my sign (Virgo) approaches love on these websites, it tends to be on point with how I do in reality. Virgos are shy, logical and approach relationships without drama as in like a business transaction, and are critical of others and what they seek (my desire for the unicorn). It tends to fewer relationships, and deep relationships

It doesn’t really cross my mind on a day to day basis, but in the back of my mind I do think there is some basis that your most sound relationships will ultimately be with fitting signs.

Or is this just quackery?

First astrology is banned by the Bible, as it is divinity and of demonic origin.

While some empiric data might get something right using the broken clock method (right time two times a day), when it gets into "compatibility" it becomes outright BS. Only the Lord is the real matchmaker and he puts together whoever He likes.

If you look at forums where people discuss astrology and mating based on it, you find a cesspool of horrifying and sad fornication stories, including children out of wedlock, as to be expected where Satan reigns.

Astrology is at best as accurate as a fortune cookie, and at worst a portal into the occult and demonic. I'd avoid it due to its silliness on the surface and possibility of letting in things that could do you harm. Plus, everyone I've ever meant who are "into" astrology are incredibly dull people.

A hindu guy I worked with has an arranged marriage, 10 years strong. The wife was located based on their astrological signs matching up, or it is something they checked almost immediately on their first date (details are escaping me). After that, they basically had one or two more meetings, then a few phone calls and were engaged. Done and done. In this case, I'd say that if both people believe it makes them destined for each other, than it can help. In his case he always mentioned in it in the story of how they met, so they took it seriously.

I also read the Arnold Schwarzenegger Autobiography. Signs was one of his favourite things to talk to girls about. I can see how it could work, as girls like to think things are written in the stars, or to feel like it means they are a match to their man by reading his horoscope. As @wwtl mentions, it can aid in fornication, or I would add being a fun thing with a girlfriend.

I would say it might have 'pickup' or 'fun' value to check your horoscope, just like a fortune cookie at a Chinese restauarant, but that's about it.

I am a Christian too so I believe in none of it, and really can't play along with it too much other than maybe a laugh.

Its just another form of "magical thinking" used as a crutch / excuse / explanation by those that are incapable of or unwilling to take responsibility for their life's outcomes.

I’m a Christian too, but haven’t heard of the possible anti-Christian basis of astrology. I’m not a hardcore bible thumper but that can be possible. Might be interesting to look up on the web, the reasoning for it. Astrology associated with false prophets or people telling others to do wrong? Seems more harmless in modern society, but interesting

Perhaps theres an alternate cause. The girls you dated could just being looking up their signs and compatibility then acting accordingly effecting their mood towards you. 'Oh he's not a Leo, well I don't like his haircut so I'll be moving on' type of a deal.

That thing about the Virgo description is that it describes me too. But I'm not a virgo. In fact I bet this describes 95% of people on the planet. The astrology stuff is just mindless entertainment and kind of like 'spiritual' yoga.

A lot of women are Christians but still into that stuff. It would be interesting to ask a chick what exactly does she believe in. What is she "connecting" to when she's into that and what makes it a good thing?

Signs. First and foremost.

Long story short, there is something there. However, the system is so exceedingly complex (between the Planets and the Houses and all their conjunctions and oppositions and orbits) that - unless you are Wise as Solomon - it’s better to trust in Him before you trust your horoscope.

It’s always fun to draw up a starchart after the fact for a good, ‘Hmmm...’

I'm into astrology so I'm a little biased, but even in places like India, the way the arranged marriages work is trough caste and sign compatibility, so even though you might not believe in those things, at least try to now the minimum because you never know if the girl is into that or not, and a lot of them are.

It's understandable to try to reach for shortcuts to determine compatibility. An astrological sign is akin to a Myers-Briggs acronym or the whole alpha/beta/chad/stacy terminology. Since women are very identity-obsessed, they will usually have pretty strong feelings about these things. There's usually something about your sign that you agree with. So it's really the voluntary association people make with their sign that matters.

I agree that astrology is real, as is witchcraft, ouija boards etc.

I got a cool story relating to this which tells you this is serious business in some places.

I knew this guy from Sri Lanka in old my engineering job who was 30-year-old who lived at home with his parents.

One day he told me that he had met this other sinalese girl for a coffee and that he really liked her.
His parents were thrilled and were trying to arrange with her family for them to marry.

But eventually his Hindu parents discovered that her horoscope didn't match with his so they didn't want her to see her.

One Friday he didn't turn up at work, which was completely out of character for him and the boss was wondering what was up. Suddenly his parents storm into the office with his cousin (who was translating even though they have lived in the country for 25 years). They were going mental because they were looking for him and asked me to call him (since they knew I was his closest buddy at work) but he didn't answer.

When he turned up to work after the weekend he had a black eye and bruises all over his body. He told me this story how he gone to the other side of the country to meet this girl again. His parents had found out and beat him up really really bad when he got back. So he stopped seeing this girl.

I met him a year later when I had left the place and just asked him how it was going with the ladies and he said there was zero action.
Less than a month later I see this Bollywood style wedding video popup in my Facebook feed with some new girl.

Astrology sometimes is just plain cold-reading stuff. It works because it's made in a way so you identify with it and believe it all, so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy at the end. The reason this thing works with women is women liking this kind of stuff, liking "the magic" of it, how it feels, so at the end they unconsciously act in a way that it gets to work.

I always say it's an art-form not a science! I think astrology is very interesting but I wouldn't change my life because of predictions or something...

Just the symbolism/representation of the planets/constellations and their connections with the mythology makes it a very intriguing subject imho...

Let me put it this way...

In my occult days I knew people who studied astrology more seriously and more academically than anyone on this board ever will. I don’t believe they had any special insight or knowledge afterward that could somehow not be gained by less dangerous means - but they all BELIEVED they had special insight and knowledge. It’s mostly smoke with no fire, except that it opens you up to demonic influence (hence the Bible telling people to stay away from it).

My opinion is that while astronomy is real, astrology is not.

I "studied" astrology back in the day much the same as someone would study lesbian dance theory but without paying a university $30k a year. It was all in good fun.

The simple answer is that two months difference is good, 4 months difference is better and 3 months difference is bad.

The more complicated answer involves looking at specific days, hours and minutes and the particular position of the heavenly bodies.

Is it true? I did it for fun but mostly it is hokum. There has been a scientific study that implies that your rising sign can influence your career but otherwise the data is scarce. Personally - and we are only talking about a relatively small sample size - Scorpio chicks are sex animals. That is predicted by astrology and it played out in my lifetime.

I’m a Scorpio and my most fulfilling relationships have been with fellow Scorpios. Slightly interesting trend I think.

Generally have had the best sex from non-scorpios, so the Scorpio sex animal angle is not one I agree with.

Most sources I look at suggest scorpio for me (as Cancer). Haven't been fortunate enough to test that theory out. But I've come to believe that geminis aren't worth more than a passing fling. Pretty much every dating profile I see where she's gemini she looks like a hot mess.

Here are a couple of facts. The stars that make up what we view from the surface of the Earth , as a 2 dimensional figure are in fact TRILLIONS of miles apart. The same holds true for all of the astrological constellations.

Tale Gemini constellation for example: the two most prominent stars Castor and Pollux are according to scientific publications 51 and 37.7 light years from Earth respectively*. Thats about 82300000000000000000000 from each other not to mention how far from Earth

So now this mysterious force that somehow overcomes these almost unimaginable distances and unifies to create permanent personality characteristics,,,,right?
