Keeping Holy the Lord's Day
How do you guys honor the Lord on Sunday?

Obviously one is obligated to attend church and abstain from servile labor, but what else do you do that brings you fulfillment and honors the Lord our God?

I've returned to the faith only recently, after having been lapsed for several years. I like to spend time after Mass getting to know other members of my church at the classic coffee 'n donuts in the parish hall. I've met some interesting men who encourage me in my faith.

Today, following that, I took a stroll downtown a few blocks from my church to take in the sites, smells and sounds of my town's farmers' market, picked up some ingredients for my Sunday dinner, met a local politician who's campaigning for city council (and his golden retriever that he'd shaved to look like a lion, hilarious!), and had a nice lunch in a local cafe. Now I'm home preparing a big pan of lasagna which I will bake in a few hours that will satisfy my hunger for half this week's dinners. Later this evening I'll probably meander down to the neighborhood pub and have a pint or two before turning in and accepting that tomorrow is Monday and I must return to the mundane.

What about you?

Wait.
Sunday or Saturday?
I don't recall a specific reference to a Sunday sabbath in the Bible...

I'm naturally a bit of workaholic, but my priest has encouraged me to actually treat Sunday like a day of rest, so I'm no longer cheating and getting in extra work, strenuous labor, etc. on Sunday. Instead, I focus on a combination of spiritual time (prayer and reading), family time and reading. It is good to have at least one day a week that you spend in a more restful and reflective state. God knew what he was doing when he commanded a day of rest.

I just try to think of it as God's day, however that plays out.

“That sig BTW is a very asinine anti-family anti-parent quote. You live in a country where 40% of children grow up without a biological father, yet somehow “the greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents”? Sorry but this is fruity Boomer nonsense.”

RE: Keeping Holy the Lord's Day
If at all possible, I go to vespers and confession on Saturday night, then Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning.

If for some reason I can't attend - I've spent a lot of time living far from church - I pray the Typica on Sunday morning after my morning prayers, watch a sermon on youtube, then spend the morning reading the Bible or the Fathers. I also turn my phone off from Saturday night to lunchtime on Sunday.

My Sunday afternoons are never very holy; I usually resume normal activities after lunch.
