-trying to get cheap flights
-lack of good flight connections, overnight layovers
-trying to get reasonably priced accommodations
-long duration flights
-rude behavior of other travelers, especially on aircrafts
-language/cultural barriers
-lack of reasonably priced roaming/cellular data plans

I really don't understand this mentality. You're flying in a metal tube, going 600mph at 33,000ft. It's a miracle and testament to human innovation. Who cares if you have to wait 6 hours in an airport for a connecting flight? Read a book, go talk to someone new or sit at the bar and drink your favourite beer.

Rude passengers? Man, its middle annoying at best. Who cares if someone is a little pushy. If you really have such a big problem say something. If you can't speak the language we live in an age of magical devices called smart phones. if you can't be bothered to learn the basics, get google translate out. If you can't afford the phone data, I don't think you should be planning any long distance trips bro. It's pennies in comparison to other stuff.

Have you lost all wonder for of travelling our gorgeous planet that sitting on a plane for 12 hours is really that bad for you?

What really cuts the fatigue down is not staying in shithole places or flying on shitty airlines. Splurge a little if you have to. When it comes to flights that are even over 3 hours I don't mind paying extra for an upgrade.

At my age you'd have to pay me to stay in a hostel. Fuck that.

It's is either airbnb, serviced condos, or a decent mid range hotel.

As I have aged and gotten experience, I actually suffer less from altitude sickness and jetlag, but I still don't sleep as well as at home. Discipline in getting a good flight time and getting in sync with the new time zone is important. And focus on the important stuff, don't try to do too much.

I like to fly afternoon flights. The reason being is that I don't have to get up too early to catch a flight and when I get to my destination it's usually already mid afternoon or early evening.

When I get there all I have to do is relax and just go to bed like normal when i'm checked into my accommodation.

For Long haul flights (12+ hours) I always choose night time departures because I can eat dinner and just sleep for about 8 hours right off the bat. Then when I wake up it doesn't seem that long of a flight. If you do a long haul departure mid-day or god forbid morning it makes the travel time seem twice as long.

I also save up my reward miles for these rare long haul flights. Business. Always. No way am I doing 12+ hours in economy.
