Silicon Valley VC explains why women don't achieve as much as men
Of course he doesn't phrase it as that. And I don't know if he secretly sees it that way. Either way it's clear to a red pilled reader that the trait he describes is a masculine one.

Paul Graham Wrote:Everyone knows that to do great work you need both natural ability and determination. But there's a third ingredient that's not as well understood: an obsessive interest in a particular topic.

...

When you look at the lives of people who've done great work, you see a consistent pattern. They often begin with a bus ticket collector's obsessive interest in something that would have seemed pointless to most of their contemporaries. One of the most striking features of Darwin's book about his voyage on the Beagle is the sheer depth of his interest in natural history. His curiosity seems infinite. Ditto for Ramanujan, sitting by the hour working out on his slate what happens to series.

It's a mistake to think they were "laying the groundwork" for the discoveries they made later. There's too much intention in that metaphor. Like bus ticket collectors, they were doing it because they liked it.

But there is a difference between Ramanujan and a bus ticket collector. Series matter, and bus tickets don't.

If I had to put the recipe for genius into one sentence, that might be it: to have a disinterested obsession with something that matters.

Aren't I forgetting about the other two ingredients? Less than you might think. An obsessive interest in a topic is both a proxy for ability and a substitute for determination. Unless you have sufficient mathematical aptitude, you won't find series interesting. And when you're obsessively interested in something, you don't need as much determination: you don't need to push yourself as hard when curiosity is pulling you.

It's actually rare in both men and women, but we are talking 99% of men and 99.9999% of women, which actually means 1% of men and 0.0001% of women. Most people will not achieve that regardless of sex. But hey, apex fallacy and all that, which is why you get all the cries for more inclusion of women in computer science.

What a man can be, he must be. --Abraham Maslow

James Damore said something similarly offensive to women, as did Larry Summers before him (though he later pulled his punches).

Whether or not you believe Adam and Eve to be a true tale, it wasn't written in a vacuum - men have known since forever that women just aren't the same.

To reinforce your point, The obsessiveness Paul describes is very, very similar to Asperger's syndrome. And, men are way more likely to have Asperger's than women (something like 4:1 I believe). This is possibly a proof point that we should naturally expect the majority of the very top people in any field (esp science, math, tech) to be men.

Mental obsessiveness is one of the reasons, but not the only one.

Men also have:

+ much higher willingness to take risks
+ slightly higher IQ on average and much much much higher percentage of men who are extremely intelligent 66% at IQ 140 and almost 100% in the genius IQ strata
+ greater desire to excel and become the best - biological reasons for that
+ ability to workd 100-hours weeks without need to care for children - especially during the key creative years in the 30s when women have to make room for kids it's key

There are other reasons - women will never be able to outcompete men in those things.

And that's the tragedy of it all. I'd say this extends to all forms of wisdom. We do know this. This is ground we covered, many times, eons ago. And yet, the "progressive" brings it up again and, worse yet, insists that the wisdom that was discovered, vetted and validated long ago was always wrong and, in fact, that what it opposed was right. This is beyond frustrating to watch.

People arguing over stuff like this are aspies and autists that haven't quite gotten the message from their overlords to go with the flow if they want to keep their jobs at Facecuck and Twatter before they are phased out in favor of transexuals with the majority of development being shifted to the land of the chosen few.

You can be as Sheldon Cooper as you want, if there are no high paying jobs and you live next to ghetto people your IQ will be a disability as you have no globalist cunning mixed in and no tribe that has your back.

In the end globalists choose who gets the money and the jobs and with the slow boil reaching it's end phase it sure as hell ain't you... Whip
