How much would divorce in the USA cost if partner is foreign?
I can very easily meet Russian women of higher quality than the American women that give me the time of day. But what happens if I marry a foreign girl and it doesn't work out?

I read that even if you have a prenup, if you bring a foreign girl to the country with marriage, and you end up divorcing and she goes on social security, you own the US government for that cost.

Does anyone have experience with this?
what's the best way to protect your assets if you are thinking about marrying a foreign woman and bringing her to the USA?

Read about Form I-864, Affidavit of Support: https://www.immihelp.com/affidavit-of-su...tions.html

Whether the government ever enforces that, I don't know.

Also understand that if she wants out of the relationship at a point before she's eligible for permanent residence based on your marriage, she has an incentive to claim domestic violence: https://www.uscis.gov/archive/archive-ne...fact-sheet

Understand that, depending on your state, the immigrant woman who uprooted her life to come live with you might have a pretty sympathetic case for alimony.

Your pre-marriage assets will likely be safe, but anything you earn after marriage will be subject to a 50-50 split. (Not sure why so many guys find this unfair -- to me it seems like the only reasonable way to do it.)

Understand that the hot Russian woman who appeals to you will also appeal to most other guys in the U.S. Understand that her SMV takes a quantum leap once she arrives stateside. Meanwhile, while you looked pretty good compared to her local options, once she arrives in the U.S., you lose your luster.

Understand that she may harbor levels of sociopathy and narcissism that Americans typically never encounter, and you won't be able to see this until you've been married a while.

Consider that the woman who is willing to leave it all behind for a chance at a better life may have more of seeking/achieving mentality than a family-oriented one.

My advice in a word: Don't.

Wise words. I realize I most likely will end up marrying a foreign woman, but it will be because I live in her place of residence without plans to go back/bring her back to the states.

Excellent question. I don’t see how you’d avoid alimony. Unless...would quitting your job and living off of investment income from pre-marital assets help you avoid alimony? These are serious questions I intend to ask a lawyer.

This can be mitigated by living abroad. But, then you sacrifice income and wealth-building unless you have an online biz.

"50-50 split. (Not sure why so many guys find this unfair -- to me it seems like the only reasonable way to do it.)"

The simple answer is that in the vast majority of marriages, the man applies the majority of his wealth to buying/maintaining the Property, Vehicles, and another large tangible assets. While the female usually finances smaller intangibles such as groceries, paying some of the bills; but mostly things that are less tangible.

50/50 should include any finances anyone put into the relationship living situation. If that was case, in a childless divorce the female would get significantly less payout from a divorce. It's funny how nobody counts the enormous sunk costs of home property taxes during a divorce situation. That could be 10 or 20k per year of LOST cash which usually the guy had to fork over, but the courts only see the HOUSE as the asset to divide. How convenient for her.

So because usually only the tangible assets are counted, the man usually ends up losing his shirt. This is why the 50-50 asset split concept is BS. Just say no to marriage. it is a bad news.

You raise some very good points, especially the part regarding Affidavit of Support. Is this a required document you must sign if she does not have a job in the US?

Also, are there any early warning signs of sociopathy and narcissism that you can look for, within, say, the first year of relationship?

Depending on the process you are following, you may need to file the I-864 or the I-134. They are both affidavits of support.

(As for sociopathy/narcissism, I'm not sure I can do that question justice, but Quora has a lot of information.)

Here's what USCIS says about the I-864:

Form I-864, Affidavit of Support under Section 213A of the INA, is a contract an individual signs agreeing to use their financial resources to support the intending immigrant named on the affidavit. The individual who signs the affidavit of support becomes the sponsor once the intending immigrant becomes a lawful permanent resident. The sponsor is usually the petitioner who filed an immigrant petition on behalf of the intending immigrant.

An affidavit of support is a legally enforceable contract, and the sponsor’s responsibility usually lasts until the family member or other individual either becomes a U.S. citizen, or is credited with 40 quarters of work (usually 10 years).

^ Sponsoring a sociopath hot Russian chick, whatever the cost, is hands down a better investment than the expense of feeding one of the barnyard sea donkeys youre recommending guys wife up.

The idea that we should be pursuing women(and marrying and having children with) that we aren't attracted to is relatively new. And is nuts.
