Edit. Not looking forward to flying into JFK Airport tomorrow after being in a South America country for almost a week. Last thing I want to see is a bunch of travelers via Chinese Airlines in a crowded customs/passport control area.

There should be an immediate travel ban of all incoming flights from China.

As an aside, why's the mainland such a dirty culture? I've had friends who spend various amounts of time on the mainland and the shit they saw would blow away most of Western society.

From public defecation to the extremely unsanitary practices around their food to eating live animals/insects to just the overall general dirtiness on the streets or in trains.

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
A lot of fluff in the responses worldwide. An incubation period of 2-10 days means lots of bat eaters already entered the US carrying the virus. The kill ratio is reportedly greater than 1 in 50. Zero chance China is being forthcoming with all the data. Spanish influenza killed 1 in 50 patients. Not sure exactly how contagious this virus is yet.

Their first known case was 12/31/19. Roughly 3 weeks to widespread cases. On 01/24/20 the US has 2 known cases and 65 suspected cases. The 30 yo Seattle man appears to be doing well.

EDIT: Upon further consideration, for the longer duration, it would be better to strengthen your immune system. (Wearing mask only when transporting or caring for a person with symptoms)

I'm not a doctor but Id advise everyone to start now. Vitamins, minerals (Zinc) and proper hydration. (Will conduct further research on strengthening immune system and report back with findings.)

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
Something I came across was the first documented case was on Dec 31st.

However the US traced it to the Wuhan fish market on Jan 1st.

That seems awfully quick when having to deal with a protectionist Communist regime intent on downplaying any breakout.

@Flora

Since youre going to be stuck inside for a while here are some movie recommendations for you to pass the time. This list is prepared specially with insufferable cunts in mind

Contagion 2011

Outbreak 1995

Patient Zero 2018

Carriers 2009

And lastly

World War Z 2012

Jokes aside the movie Contagion seems especially prescient as the virus originates in bats

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
People wondering why these viruses always originate in shithole countries should ask themselves when they last saw bat soup on the menu in North America.

As for the virus, I have read that this epidemic likely will be much worse than SARS because the virus can survive for 24 hours on surfaces, very different from regular flu or pneumonia which does not survive that long. This means it will spread more successfully. It also mutates rapidly

Also, mortality is one in fifty.

I’m not panicking but I’m not traveling to Asia or visiting airports in the US

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
Let me freak you all out a bit.

So, I follow the weekly flu statistics for my state each year. My family stops all group social activities for a few weeks during each flu season till it passes over. Last week, the flu numbers were starting to go down, then they shot back up again during the week of Jan 20th.

The weird part is that the flu cases shot up because they started to administer a lot more flu tests. The bad part is that the rate of positive's for those flu tests dropped.

So, Doctors are testing a lot more people for flu like symptoms, but the rate of people that actually have the flu based on those tests dropped. Conclusion? They have something else.

There are lots of different kinds of flu. Most years the vaccine is effective for about 30% of folks. It’s made several months in advance and has usually mutated or a different type is going around by the time the shots are administered

One thought about the timing of this contagion, you couldn't imagine a more ideal period to spread a deadly viral epidemic than the weeks before the world's greatest human migration, Chinese new year... Tinfoilhat

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
Poor air quality, poor hygiene conditions, smoking, low nutrient density diet, extreme crowding/overpopulation. What could possibly go wrong there? It`s for many of the same reasons that the black death, Spanish flu etc. had devastating effects in medieval Europe. It has little to do with the virus itself, and more to do with the reduced immune function resulting from the factors mentioned above.

200 mg vitamin C + some zinc containing foods (brazil nuts, canned oysters) is a good idea as a prophylactic measure. If you have an infection already, increase vitamin C to 1000 mg at least. (transiently) But the most important factors in immune function are still gonna be a nutrient dense (Paleo-Keto) diet, intermittent fasting, occasional prolonged fasting (5-7 days) with a subsequent generous (more Paleo protein/carbs) refeeding period. Plus of course general hygiene measures and limiting sexual interactions etc. Living in big cities is simply not good for your health. Much more so in developing countries of course, but even in the West this is still true.

We will stomp to the top with the wind in our teeth.

At least as importantly, never touch your eyes, mouth or your nose before washing your hands, and wash your hands whenever you get home. Especially at the gym after handling free weights and machines. Get some rubbing alcohol to wipe off your phone and your keyboards a few times a week.

Watch out with contact/fighting/grapling sports during the flu season as well, I got a very bad case of the flu from that last winter.

One week ago ; I got the confirmation from a very high ranked official in the embassy of a very big country that there had been much more dead people about this virus in China than media would report.
This is not coming from NATO country so I believe it's true

RE: The Chinese/Asian coronavirus thread
Just had a wechat convo with a former coworker that is from Wuhan and is now stuck in Xiangyang. Her family and she tried to flee the situation by taking the car to her grandmother's place but to no avail. The disease caught up with her. She lives in Shanghai and went back for the Lunar New Year

The situation is extremely dire. According to her there are thousands upon thousands of infected and hundreds of dead. Hospitals are overflowing and can't cope with the influx of people seeking treatment. They send people back home who show symptoms telling them to 'sleep it off and don't leave your apartment'. That basically translates to try to survive and don't infect anyone else, see you in two weeks. That's SARS style. There is a shortage of protective gear for medical personnel and many hospitals are understaffed. All affected cities in Hubei are requesting extra gear, personnel, money, medicine.

The provincial leadership seems to have disappeared.

The virus is much more potent and deadly than they would like you to believe.

People are desperate and have voluntarily locked themselves up in their apartment. She openly cursed the government for not doing enough and letting this spiral out of control. I have never seen something like that before during my 4 years in China. I guess she feels like she's got nothing to lose. There is a sense of abandonment and many people are angry. Weibo and wechat are actively censored. Thank God the videos and messages are still leaking out. I guess it won't be long until they go black completely.

This morning I woke up to her message that they have now sent 50 000 soldiers to Wuhan/ Hubei to maintain law and order.

The only good thing is that she confirmed that it's mostly elderly people who can't fight off the infection. Younger healthy people seem to have a decent chance to defeat the virus. If provided proper support of course.

I don't know where I am going with this story but I personally feel very, very worried about this virus. It's e everywhere in China now. The incubation period is 10- 14 days which could mean that by now tens if not hundreds of thousands have been unknowningly infected. The 1st World country should learn from China's mistakes and handle swift and remorseless. The third world countries? I just read that the Philippines and Pakistan don't have the labs to investigate whether its the virus or not.

May the Lord have mercy on them.

If any of you are in China make sure to stock up on food, water, medicine and masks/sanitizers/gloves etc (for as much as they are available} . Have enough in your apartment to last at least a couple of weeks. At this rate of escalation nothing is impossible, not even putting the entire country on lockdown

^ I think that was for the post about the "three squeals" exotic culinary excursion above, not yours Polniy.

It's looking like this corona virus is closer to a new Spanish Flu, with a million plus deaths, than something of the caliber of a SARS/Swine Flu epidemic. Maybe something more like the 1960s Hong Kong flu epidemic, with a global death toll in the low millions.

20th century epidemics

Death toll (estimate) Location Date Article Disease
100,000,000+ worldwide 1918–1920 Spanish flu Influenza
2,000,000 worldwide 1957–1958 Asian flu Influenza
1,000,000 worldwide 1968–1969 Hong Kong flu Influenza
30,000,000 worldwide(Congo Basin) 1960–present HIV/AIDS pandemic
775 Asia 2002–2003 SARS SARS coronavirus
203,000 worldwide 2009 Swine flu pandemic Influenza
20,000 West Africa 2013–2016 Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa
