Buying medications in Mexico
What is the official policy and unofficial policy of border agents to buying non controlled medicines in Mexico without a prescription and bringing it back to the usa? Does quantity affect this ?

RE: Buying medications in Mexico
My sister and I were stopped crossing back into San Diego from Tijuana with contraband. She just had wrinkle cream she bought for a friend I think it was Retin-A but it was RX. I had a switchblade knife. The draw is that stuff was so much cheaper across the border. U.S. Customs confiscated the stuff, squeezed out the cream, broke the switchblade, lectured us for a few minutes and then sent us on our way. I was only 16 years old at the time and this was way back in the 80's. Controlled or not, it was still frowned upon and not permitted.

I take down empty vitamin bottles and fill them up with the pills I need, just make sure you have a couple of bottles with legit vitamins too.

RE: Buying medications in Mexico
This article is dated January 5, 2020.

“You are allowed to bring FDA-approved prescription medications back into the United States for your personal use, with the following stipulations. In general, you may bring up to 50 dosage units without a prescription.

To bring more than 50 dosage units across the boarder you need a prescription from an FDA-approved U.S. physician. A prescription from a Mexican doctor is no longer acceptable. However, U.S. Customs agents may prohibit a supply that is for more than 60 to 90 days.”

I was told by my Mexican doctor that a Mexican prescription is accepted, but according to the above, a prescription from a Mexican doctor in no longer acceptable.

Also, getting caught with undeclared medication can result in heavy fines. And the bottles can’t be opened.

The cost of medicines in the US is a major ripoff and you can be sure that CBP is going to enforce and protect the US Big Pharma racket. They know people go to Mexico to get medicines at prices they can afford.

Rico... Sauve....

As of 2015 you could get a prescription in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico for $15 and go next door and have that prescription filled. As long as you declare and provide a prescription you're good. A Mexican doctors prescription is accepted for reasonable amounts. Point is, as long as you declare it and it's legal in Mexico, you won't have any legal problems. If its not legal in US, they will just confiscate it, so long as you declare it.
