Information Slow lag when replying to certain threads
A new problem is that it can take up to 20 seconds to reply to certain threads, such as the Coronavirus thread.

From looking at the Network tab of Chrome's DevTools, it looks like the hangup is in https://www.rooshvforum.com/xmlhttp.php, which is meant to deal with Ajax. The page is stuck while the post was already added or edited to the database.

Any idea on how I can troubleshoot this?

RE: Slow lag when replying to certain threads
Also (separately) the quote reply function has been broken on mobile for a while.

The mobile template 'quote' button is using this format:
https://www.rooshvforum.com/newreply.php...id=2062768 <-bad

The mobile template works correctly when you enter the same url used on the desktop version:
https://www.rooshvforum.com/newreply.php...to=2062768 <-good

The mobile template needs the quote link url/get variable 'pid' changed to 'replyto' in order to work correctly.

I'm waiting for cPanel to have a version for Cent OS 8. I will get a new server and then perform all necessary forum upgrades. We may have to deal with these problems for the short term.

RE: Slow lag when replying to certain threads
I also noticed this time lag. The other problem that has occurred recently is that when you use a keyword to search a thread to find a previous post, when you open the previous post and copy the web url so that you can paste it to a new post, the link does not open on that specific post (but somewhere above it). This feature always worked in the past. I first noticed this issue in the coronavirus thread. I am not sure about other threads. You can see the problem here, where I had to identify the linked url as going to post number 1818, because I knew that the link would not open correctly:

https://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-60358...pid2062748

You can also see the problem here, both by opening this link and seeing that it does not take you to post 1999. Nor do the links in post 1999 take you to the proper post (which is why I was forced to list the post numbers):

Yes I see it happening. The '<a' anchor text is definitely in the right place.

This is a guess but I reckon the following is happening:
1. The page loads and you are taken to the correct anchor location;
2. Then - either a plugin or external content (youtube/ twitter etc) loads late and pushes the page down - however the viewport doesn't track the anchor and ends up a few posts off.

EDIT: Its a universal issue so there will be a solution for mybb somewhere:
Lazy loading of images breaks anchor links

---

Not sure about the time lag as it's probably a backend/ php issue. Maybe a sorting function somewhere - they are usually slow and CPU intensive.

This is because of Twitter. The tweets load on pages after the page loads, which has the effect of bumping your spot. You'll notice that anchor linking works on pages without tweets. This is the cost of being able to embed tweets on the forum.

Have you recently installed/updated any of the plugins? There's a place where plugins can hook into "after" action to perform some work. Considering that the problem appears only on threads with many posts, it's probably doing some database work.

Yeah it's happening to me too. It seems threads go slow after hitting 80 pages. I'll monitor it today and start a new thread if needed.

I just optimized the databases. Let's see if that makes a difference.

Just out of curiosity, how large is the MYBB database that is running this board?

I'm still getting really long reply times for the thread (over 15 seconds). Anyone else?

Yes. I think it's a little bit faster than before, but during last few hours it still took at least 8-10 seconds for me (edit: although this reply here went without any lagging).

Is it possible that the problem is really with Cloudflare cache and not MYBB?

Unrelated to lag, but Cloudfare is nothing but a pain in the ass if you use Tor (as I do and as you all should).
