Survival in post-coronavirus world (prepping, supplies, protection, money)
I know there are various prepper threads, but this is a thread relating to how we can navigate the ramifications of this virus and the economic and social crash that are soon to follow. 'Prepping' is likely too late at this point, so this is by no means a prepper thread.

This thread is dealing with supplies, lifestyle, your income, as well as other things such as dealing with the National Guard, if it comes to it. Anything related to survival of the virus itself can be found in other threads. Things can get very complicated, very fast (and in many ways they already have).

Work in the health industry or tied to the health industry appears to be a solid bet, if you can find a job that is backfilling someone else's absence while dealing with Coronavirus. Supply deliveries to hospitals should be pretty safe, by the time this gets bad they'll have armed escorts for trucks carrying face masks to hospital. Other alternative is trucking: so long as your hygiene discipline is good, there's going to be massive demand for deliveries while people are still panicking.

It's never too late to prep, because things are never so bad they can't get worse. Employment-wise, there are "essential" jobs that don't rely on business cycles and which remain necessary even during disasters. Get one of those jobs and use your extra cash to prep.

right thread or not, I'm not sure.

Have wet wipes with you at all times. Use them while pumping gas, shopping carts, pulling the handle for that six-pack at the 7-11. Use your car key to punch the credit/debit machines when paying, wipe the key down afterwards. The people being cautious (perhaps in considered strange ways) should not be ridiculed. I would give a thumbs-up if I saw a person wearing a Jetson's style flying car helmet.

You can find a lot of shit on eBay, like survival foods, from private sellers who ship quick that big companies don't have in stock or take 3 months to ship. Prices are pretty high, but if you really need stuff. eBay ain't a bad place to start.

RE: Coronavirus Ramifications Survival Thread
As noted elsewhere, have a go-bag (bug-out-bag) handy. This is a measure most people should be able to implement quite cheaply and easily.

Potential war, cyber-attacks or heavy handed quarantine measures might force you to relocate with close to zero notice. Not to mention the fact that the arrival of CV doesn't rule out other natural catastrophes being stacked on top.

I think go-bags are best layered since obviously it would be nice to carry a full sized hiking pack for maximum storage but you might need to drop the extra weight in a hurry. As such you start small with your bare minimum. It would be something like this.

Cash, cards, passport, credentials, essential medicines and maybe some gold and silver if you can get it.

The next layer has a focus entirely on short term survival. A carry-on sized bag with stuff like a basic first aid kit, wet weather poncho, thermal blanket, pocket radio wrapped in foil, area map, survival food, water, torch, knife, etc

That bag is strapped to (or layered at the top of) a much larger bag that's more like something a backpacker would carry, with changes of clothes, spare batteries, a solar charger, a 1 man tent, a sleeping roll, etc.

The premise is simple. If you're in a position to carry the larger bag you do so. If things get really bad and you're literally running for you life you drop the larger bag and take the smaller bag. And if you're robbed and they take your bags and your wallet then at least there's a chance they wont realise that your wallet with fifty bucks in it is a decoy for your pouch worn under your clothes.

And no tactical black or olive drap backpacks covered in molle loops or dumb shit like that which screams "look at me, I'm probably carrying a thousand bucks worth of junk silver".

RE: Coronavirus Ramifications Survival Thread
Expounding on Leonard's "look at me" comment...

Even if you're reasonably stocked up on any supplies, be careful who you share that information with.

Example, the masses are going crazy right now over toilet paper. That neighbor you typically only see 4 or 5 times a year might spot you and tell you he somehow managed to score a 12 pack of Cottenelle this afternion. But as far as he's concerned you're down to two rolls and have been rinsing your backside off over the bathtub after rationing eight squares per visit for yourself.
Afterwards, when you're back in the house, stand back and admire your 96 rolls you had the foresight to purchase before the insanity really got started.

Yeah, some may have laughed at you when you suggested stocking up on your household staples, but now is not the time to strut.

On a side note, I'm noticing that even right now, people are talking about a visit to the grocery store like they were in Beirut being pursued by ninjas carrying submachine guns and Cobra Commander was leading the chase ("It was insane, I tell ya, I didn't think I'd make it out alive !!").

These are the kind of people you definitely don't want to entrust with information about your stockpile.

Here's a simple one that I often overlook myself (though in fairness I'm in the sticks).

Pay attention to local news even if it means ignoring the far more interesting national or global news.

The national stuff might affect you. The global stuff probably wont. But you don't want to be caught napping on the local stuff.

I strongly believe that ammo will be a reasonable wealth store in the future. It's not as compact as some other things, but it is and will always be useful and if stored properly is very long-lasting.

RE: Coronavirus Ramifications Survival Thread
You can still get food and other supplies given restrictions by the government and shops. Over in the UK they have restriction of 2-3 per item but you can go to different stores.

You're exposed more but do you want to run the risk now or later when there are more stringent laws in place and the police+military are enforcing them?

Lets not forget the masses being spooked right now and the very possibility the governments are telling lies about the supply of food and medicines. I for one do not believe for a minute there is adequate supply in the UK of food because we're a net importer. 60+ million people here and the EU is locking itself down.

Right now the masses haven't figured that part out yet but when they do it will be too late. You wont have queues around the supermarkets but large crowds in front of the entrance where violence can escalate on top of spreading the infection.

I have prepped well before this shit kicked off thankfully. My plan involves weekly shops this week to increase the wiggle room.

To expand on the go-bag....

As a former combat arms person (both enlisted and officer), I'll add that the single most important piece of gear you can carry is having extra pairs of underwear and socks.

Where is Leonard's thread about prepping when you need it?
What about drinking water filtration systems, or generators? What do you all recommend?

Propur makes a great system. Filters out pretty much everything except for certain minerals. The tests show that they, ''remove and/or reduce contaminants including heavy metals, VOC’s, monochloramines, pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceutical drugs, fluoride, bacteria, viruses, Giardia and more without the need of any add-on filters''. Easy to use, long lasting, and portable. Just make sure you stock up on those filters.

After talking to a young lady for a while, she told me “Even though your skin is black, I can tell your heart is white.”

Guilty as charged. I am making an effort now to scan local MSM in order to keep up with local restrictions or developments, having long ago lost the habit of looking at any of the local "news" outlets.

Recently saw a neat way for putting these in your go-bag:
-lay t-shirt flat with undies and pair of small sport socks on top
-lay heavier (woolen) socks flat across the chest of the t-shirt, with the open end of each sock out to either side
-roll up the t-shirt so you have a roll with the open sock ends protruding from either end
-roll one sock end over the tube, then do the same with the other sock so you end up wiht a compact sausage holding a complete change of undies.

Also check out findaspring.com to find a natural spring near you. I got every month and fill up a few big bottles and leave the dude (who tests and posts results and keeps the place nice and accessible) a few bucks per jug I take.

Bug out bags are a great idea.

What many people overlook is a get home bag.

Those $2 emergency blankets can save your life, if forced to overnight out in the elements.

Chocolate contains caffeine, which most of us are addicted to.

A BIC lighter with 10' of duct tape wrapped around it.

Altoid survival kit (variety of small things that are multi-use and hard to replicate)

I'm able to work from home for my job and my salary wont be affected as long as my company is still viable.

Other than figuring out a home fitness routine and a run once a day I'm good. Twice a day would be easy where I live but there are snitches around.

The UK police wont be able to keep a lid on things over a prolonged period. That is just ridiculous talk tbh especially in dense urban areas.

It is worth researching edible plants and mushrooms in your area, or the area you have planned to bug out to in case SHTF. Also, be sure to research how to prepare these foods, as many of them require quite the amount of work to be edible (Nettles, for example, can be eaten, but require boiling - also don't eat them when they are in flower).

Pandemics are part and parcel of living in an industrial system.

Youtube channel called "Canadian Prepper." I've been watching this guy for a little while and I like his comprehensive approach to prepping, but also his videos where he goes more into the psychology and mental health issues of a post-shtf type situation.
