Love in the times of Coronavirus
What about finding (or protecting) love, in spite of, or thanks to, the coronavirus?

I mean, if you have read great books (or seen great movies) on viruses and quarantine, like Garcia Marquez' Love in the Time of Cholera or the legendary Horseman on the Roof, you know that men of other generations would not have been stopped by a pandemic, in their pursuit of happiness. We too, should try to find love (or protect our wives) even in these crazy times!

A must-read, The Horseman on the Roof

^"A long journey just to bring me death. And now, look!"

Escaping Beta quarantine to be reunited with one's Alpha lover:

So, who'll find a girlfriend or wife during the troubled months, of heavy disturbance, to come, and how?

Also curious : what would you do to protect, or be reunited with, your wife or lover, while under quarantine and if separated? Would you be ready to ride horses, shoot and run on roofs? Or will you just send a WhatsApp to her every evening, wishing her well?

Well, for a somewhat more contemporary take:

God demands of Man responsibility. God demands of Woman vulnerability. These are their curse and blessing alike. Libertianism is to Man as Feminism is to Woman.

I sense much action from the captain save a hoes.

One interesting collection of short stories is The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. It will give you a different perspective on the current events.

RE: Love in the times of Coronavirus
Of course, I knew the answer to my rethorical question from original post. It's Answer 2: Dodgy "we'll respect quarantine and send a string of WhatsApps, it's the year 2020 after all".

The thread is therefore more than anything to incite reading of (minimum) 2 great books on viruses and pandemic, and to make one reflect on how men of older generations were better than us. I even put pics of the movies made from the books, as naturally I can't really expect people to actually read them books. But, if some forum members do watch these 2 movies, well, they'll enjoy, that's something.

They (men from past generations) would have escaped quarantine and done heroic things, for both love or fortune. Modern men will just sit at home, do memes, watch muh porn online, and comply with government orders - while their savings crumble and women go untouched and bored.

Meme and compliance : it's the 21st century. Love, fortune and heroism are but a thing of the past.

I would not want to be in a relationship right now. I hold no jealousy of those who are, especially if they live together. With kids even worse.
If you're seeing each other all the time, it's going to get boring as hell. Familiarity breeds contempt.
I agree with Taki's Mag that after this the divorce rate is going to explode. Adding that the economic pressures alone are bound to be tough.

Familiarity breeds contempt.: it's even worse than that. Each spouse will see the other one doing nothing for weeks on. People will see each other just idle, doing memes, not going out, no restaurant dinner, no walk in the park, no fun at a theater or concert hall.

Not only will divorce rates explode (once Courts are open) but also, I expect acts of home violence and even murders to increase tenfold if the quarantine goes on for weeks. Married people in small apartments just staring at each other doing no work and losing money by the day, for weeks on? Can't end well.

That's a very sad reality. Couples realizing they didn't get together for meaningful reasons, but just because it was convenient given their lifestyles and schedules.

RE: Love in the times of Coronavirus
I'm hearing endearing stories of brave men (or daring chicks) breaking confinement to go see their loved ones. Usually it involves carrying heavy grocery bags, as if you were out to shop for food, then sneaking into your fiancee's building.

In any case, as full quarantines worldwide take hold for months, the Establishment is winning on many fronts. The wealthy have fled to countryside mansions (with their trophy wives or gay minions), and meanwhile the middle-class accepts its fate - while the vibrants prepare for mass looting of useless cheap stuff.

Confined, dazed, scared, watching YouTube and porn all day long out of boredom, zero date and soon penniless - that's how the Establishment always wanted us middle-class to be.

Well, anyway, if you're a man and you're currently separated from the woman you love, I hope that you'll have the nerve to defy quarantine and go get her. Especially as coronavirus is no Cholera, I don't reckon it kills healthy couples.

Sitting home with your significant other - without kids - is a great way to shine a spotlight on your sterile, hedonistic existence. I'm sure many relationships will implode given this simple realization.

Sitting home with your significant other - and your kids - is a great way to appreciate the family you've created and your ability to keep them safe. It's a good time to be a family man.

If birth control supplies get scarce, not only will we see a new baby boom, but many women, in the absence of the hormonal blinkers theyve spent their entire adult lives wearing, will take a look at the drips theyve partnered with, and feel disgusted.

Man, you think normal healthy children want to see their father "sitting home". What else do they want to see their father do, play video games with them during one month?

Children, boys in any case (dunno about girls, but who cares), want to see their father going to work at 8 AM and going back from work at 6:30 PM, with money in pocket.

Boys don't need a father at home playing fag video games. They need the father working away making money, and then on Sunday the father bringing them to the countryside to teach them how to fish and shoot. Possibly and preferably, bringing them to Mass on Sunday morning too, I'll add.

But feel free to give massive time and love and Netflix in family to your children (boys, girls might be another story, I don't know), and report to us in 15 years how that went.

Why so mad? Going to your cubicle for 12 hours a day might have been a good way to provide in clown world, but theres nothing inherently masculine in that routine.

If i'm to be housebound, the boy can work out with me, build and repair things with me, learn by doing everything im doing. And if we're not housebound, we'll be navigating the new world, and strategising for success as only men can. We dont stop providing and protecting our families because we lost some shitty job. What theyll want to see is action being taking to secure our future, whichever form that will take now. I didnt have netflix before, so why would I sign up now? Did you really think we'd give in to despair so easily?

Repped for having children and not having Netflix. +1!

Be strong, resist the temptation to bring television and Netflix to your children, and they'll grow up healthy and smart.

RE: Love in the times of Coronavirus
We’re not saying it’s “Alpha” to break quarantines or best-practice medical guidelines, are we? Because that’s not Alpha; it’s suicide and/or homicide. This thing is real. And real men protect our families, friends, and even strangers. Sometimes protecting others means taking flamboyantly “bold” actions—and sometimes it means exercising caution.
