If degeneracy is actively working against God and His creation; decadence is more passively looking away from God's glory and His transcendent Logos. Decadence is more subtle but requires discernment to work against. Decadence can easily lead to degeneracy if it is allowed to grow and not rooted out. I never previously thought of "having options" as decadent but it does make sense considering the following verse: [HEADING=2]James 4:13-16[/HEADING] "Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil." Sometimes it feels like every day I am discovering a new cross to bear, or a sin that I need to repent for that I had previously forgotten about or ignored. Glory to God for giving me this bit of discernment that seems to be growing, though I am still largely ignorant. Though this awareness can be painful it is necessary for repentance, which helps to invite us into the great and perfect forgiveness of God and the bestowing of His grace. May we all grow wise through discernment and humble in repentance, so that we may walk the straight and narrow path.
