I laughed as a kid when I thought the show was an over-exaggeration of reality.
I cried as an adult when the show's over-exaggerations became a reality.

Exactly. It won't be long before dudes are eating "tang-wiches" for dinner or, worse, this:

Youtube Comment: LOL, at 00:21 you can hear someone in the audience say "Don't do it, Al!" LMAO!

Live Audience, none of those fake laugh tracks.

I found another good one. Check out the outfit: homie was a "PUA" before PUAs existed.

This is my kind of churchin'. "The man married for our sins."

I remember it was one of the few things my dad and I did together and looked forward to. Watching Al on Sunday evenings. You know, he scored 4 touchdowns in one game.

Same here. The following ladies are responsible for my blonde fever: Christina Applegate, Pamela Anderson, Nicole Eggert, and

Betty Cooper!

Greatest sitcom of all time! Bar none. No way in hell the material they allowed would be made today. What does that tell you about how the climate has changed?

And I don't think there's a teen that grew up in the early 90s that didn't rub one off thinking about Christina Applegate!

One of the pioneers of the contemporary manosphere, in my opinion. One pattern I notice is everyone saying they bonded with their dad watching this show. Same exact situation here. The show had mass appeal.

The appeal even goes beyond inter-generational--My father had friends who didn't even speak ENGLISH, and when they were around, they knew the show and would have to sit down and watch it with us, dying of laughter the whole time.

As others have said, show was WAY beyond its time, and the more that traditional family values are oppressed in the United States, the more I think of this show and how what was supposed to be an extreme caricature has amazingly become quite close to millions' of poor dudes' daily realities.

When I was a kid, my dad would allow me to stay up a bit longer to watch Al Bundy with him. He still thinks it´s the best series ever made. It also royally pissed off my mum, she hated the show.
She always told my dad "that´s not a show kids should see". His answer: "No, it´s a show for MEN. Now leave us alone and be quiet, woman!".
Best father-son bonding, haha. Also, whenever she told me to help her with some boring household chores I used to say "No Ma´am!" and my dad burst out laughing. I had to do it anyway.
Al Bundy was his last refuge of manliness.

Oh, and it took me some time to realize that I didn´t understand about 75% of the jokes.

Haha, spot on, Celtic. I had the exact same experience.

The earlier seasons were a lot less cynical (like season 1 or so) and usually had a mostly-happy resolution like a normal sitcom. I guess the writers started pushing the envelope.

Edit: if you want to watch some episodes online, Hulu has all of season 3 for free -- http://www.hulu.com/marriedwith-children
