Alec Baldwin accidentally kills one person on movie set

Does anyone know why Baldwin even pointed the gun at this photographer? That's a bit weird right? It's not another actor he is going to shoot in a scene. I guess we need more details on what was supposed to occur in the scene. Also, I still can't figure out why there would be real bullets on a movie set in the first place. It seems entirely unnecessary.

The guy hates guns so obviously he'd be incompetent when it comes to gun safety. He probably thinks machine guns are super easy to acquire.

I always figured Alec Baldwin would have ended up killing a paparazzo or someone over a parking spot.

This happened to Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow 25 years ago or so. He died from a squib round. Crew initially made dummy rounds by extracting powder cartridge but failing to do so with primer. They fired a test shot that went partially through the barrel. They then switched to blanks for the scene with Brandon Lee. These rounds had powder and a primer, turning the bullet into a projectile and ending Lee's life.

To answer VH's question: My guess is that the scene involved Baldwin pointing the gun at the camera. If it was a small budget movie the cinematographer might have been operating the camera. I'd also speculate that they were in relatively close proximity.

Looks like I called this one fairly accurately:

Alec Baldwin was practicing a “cross draw” in a church pew that required pointing his weapon at the camera during the prop gun mishap that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead, newly released documents reveal.

Two new witness accounts made public by the Sante Fe Sheriff’s Office on Sunday night describe the harrowing moment the 42-year-old director of photography was shot inside the church building on the New Mexico set of the film “Rust.”

Baldwin was rehearsing the gun retrieval method from a pew of the mock church at Bonanza Creek Ranch when he aimed at the camera, while both Hutchins and 48-year-old director Joel Souza stood behind it.

It was the white man's fault, the assistant director.

When he was handed the gun by the strong, independent armorer, he should have checked more.

He's been at fault before. It's time for him to pay the price.

Looks Like a Trump supporter. Probably stormed the capital

"The rounds recovered from the set include blanks, dummy rounds and what investigators suspect are "live" rounds." Why would you bring a gun on set with live rounds lol. Nobody has given me a convincing answer for this. You're shooting blanks in the scene. There's no need to practice with live rounds. Imagine how stupid that is. It's totally unnecessary and confusing. You bring in some dummy rounds, some blanks, and then you also have to put in live rounds because you just want to confuse people? What is the point of that.

If Baldwin was just practicing a cross draw, why did he squeeze the trigger?

Baldwin was responsible for what his finger did with the trigger.

It's totally normal to pull the trigger when dry firing. Not exactly standard procedure to point said gun at someone. According to what I've read you aren't supposed to do it with a prop gun either.

So this chick nearly got fired for ticking off Nicolas Cage on a movie set.

Cage even walked off set screaming at Gutierrez-Reed after she fired a gun without warning for the second time in three days, the movie’s key grip, Stu Brumbaugh, told the outlet.

“Make an announcement, you just blew my f—ing eardrums out!” Cage yelled before walking off in a rage, Brumbaugh recalled.

The husband of Halyna Hutchins did himself no favors by cosying up to Baldwin after she died. I am not saying jumping the gun (pun intended) and berating Baldwin is the answer. Still, relatives of victims or surviving victims in these cases allow themselves to be suckered into sympathizing with people who might end up having been legally responsible for the death.

Baldwin, whether he is guilty/liable or not, is clearly trying to ingratiate himself with Hutchins’ family to stave off financial, legal and reputational/moral damage.

Grief aside, the husband here is not helping justice by failing to keep his distance.

Then again, his law firm/employer is all about distorting the truth in favor of liberal narratives. Guy probably thinks he’s doing the noble thing.

Baldwin's wife seems like a real battle axe. Baldwin keeps trying to answer questions and she keeps interrupting. Surprised she didn't start screaming obscenities in Spanish.

He should be charged at a minimum with negligence.

Look, just about every DVD over the last 20 years has 'behind-the-scenes' footage.

Collateral and End Of Watch are two that come to mind. Tom Cruise went through (I believe) SAS Weapons Training and learned a lot about firearms. The briefcase scene in Collateral is considered one of the most realistic scenes as far as the way Cruise not only draws the gun but keeps it close to his body. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena rode with real LAPD prior to filming.

In Saving Private Ryan, the cast, except for Matt Damon, went through a Boot Camp school kind of thing similar to a real Boot Camp. Damon was not made to attend because the director wanted the rest of the cast to genuinely not like him (which played into the story).

Alec Baldwin has been in well over 100 different movies and TV series, including The Hunt For Red October, The Getaway, and two Mission Impossible movies. I only mention those specific movies because I've seen those movies and in those movies he holds and points a firearm !!

For him to turn around and have the first thing he says be, "Why was I handed a hot gun ?".. he can't really claim ignorance, this ain't his first movie with a gun.

I don't think he set out to shoot someone dead, but there's also a responsibility that falls on his own lap and he should be held accountable.
Were the actors in these examples trained to check the weapon every time? I doubt it, the whole reason for hiring these weapons people is to handle all that, and not waste time on the set. Of course Baldwin has a long history of being an asshole, so maybe it's fitting, but I personally don't like how some have been gloating about it publicly. I'm sure the left would share no consideration if it were a conservative icon in this case, but nonetheless. It was a terrible accident (probably), and responsibility will eventually be sorted out in the courts. I really have no interest in it, and I don't think anyone deserves to carry that guilt. Once again, wouldn't be surprised if the cult of Covid restrictions and measures contributed to the accident. Trying to insert gun politics into it is a bad look that will only backfire.

Just after this lazy, careless Baldwin dude (who can't be bothered to personnally check his gun) shot and killed a woman, he said "I'll remove myself from the public eye".

But of course two days later he's giving interviews, claiming no responsibility. His exile from the media lasted 48 hours.

In any case, as I posted earlier here, Baldwin was required by the written rules of his profession, to double-check the gun after the armourer had first checked it. Baldwin did none of that, so he's been criminally negligent. And ought to be sent to jail for this, which in his (leftist) case would be a well-deserved fate.

By the way, people who shoot guns for sports or practice, know that it'd be absolutely normal and required by common sense, to personnally double-check a gun that you've just been handed. Baldwin in this circumstance had no respect for guns and therefore no respect for protecting the lives of his colleagues on stage.

Talking about stages... The movie shooting scene was to be staged inside a Church. Scandalous in itself, and probably a big sin.
So, it makes one wonder : Hollywood movie lady wants to record a gunfight scene inside a Church full of Christian symbols, she gets shot...

Why would anyone impersonate a Spanish person? Who would do that? These progressives are congenital liars with no principles. That’s why it is important that Alec Baldwin be arrested and forced to take responsibility for his crimes.

How do you not know if there is a round in the chamber.. gun safety 101. Whoever was in charge is completely liable for murder imo. Even Baldwin should be trained in gun safety if they are going to have a real gun in his hand. Gross negligence all around.
Even the guntubers check the chamber before they do a video for Pete's sake. And they're sitting in a room by themselves. Often the chamber is confirmed clear numerous times, even for a yt video.

So rednecks with no education have no problem ensuring gun safety protocols are met while a multi-million dollar h-wood project with 'trained', salaried staff can't even cover the basics. If that doesn't perfectly represent the polarities of personal responsibility between the right and left, I don't know what does.

No excuses. Charges need to hit all around..the 'armorer', Baldwin, at a minimum.

The level of irony for such an 'accident' to occur in the anti-2a capitol of the world cannot be measured or contained.
