Love that guy. The real life Most Interesting Man in the World. Took a non-American to create a decent American carrier.

Damn the girl in the second hippie pic is smokin'.

Also Emancipator are those girls in the red definitely Virgin air-hostesses? They are Mediterranean looking, for that reason my next flight must be with them.

I fly nearly every week and have to put up with fat stewardesses bumping into my elbows and shoulders with their fat asses. It's not just unpleasant to look at them, it's hazardous to fly with them. That type of shit is unprofessional. At this point, I prefer the gay male flight attendants. At least they don't knock into me when they walk by.

I was watching "Makers", the ridiculous "women who made america" series, and they used to fire ALL the stewardesses on their 32nd birthday. The pictures of the attendants looked just like the above, nothing but slim, attractive young women. It was hilarious to hear the music get ominous when the woman narrating started talking about eating her 32nd birthday cake and then going to a union to complain.

I think a lot of those women in the --ads?-- from the 60's were models, unless they recruited stews exactly like models. Those were ads, not in-flight photos, right?

Still, whale-ism is everywhere...

No. They were probably the real deal. Many more women used to look like that. My hunch is the Aeroflot stewardesses I posted earlier were real, based on multiple Aeroflot flights.

Btw, why are there almost no straight male flight attendants? It's not an inherently gay job like hair dresser or make up artist. It's just a service position no more gay than a waiter really. Yet gay dudes flock to this job. It actually could be a good job for a multilingual international player.

As a frequent international traveler, i havent found another country with worst flight attendants then ours. As many guys have said its so refreshing to fly with an asian air line, singapore air and eva still employ slim and attractive women. Even europe is an improvement, i flew lufthansa recently and there flight crews were much hotter and pleasant than anything ive ever seen on american airlines and united.

I never understood the proliferation of gay flight attendants either. Seems like over 50% on u.s. airlines, im thinking it could possibly due to the stigma of the job as womens work in the past that when it was finally open to men so many gays rushed to apply initially that it dissuade many straight guys from considering it. However i read a book by a straight black flight attendant who said he often would get pussy thrown at him because of the imbalance there. He also talks about his exploits all over the world I think the book is called plane crazy.

I haven't been on a Western European, Canadian, American airline I've enjoyed for years. American ones are the worst but not by far. That said, the last two trips home I've had excellent flights with good but not great cabin crews.

On my way back to Asian, we ran into a couple hour delay in Denver on route to LAX. Two chubby women and a gay guy were the crew in the aft. Myself, a Mercedes Benz salesman from Beverly Hills and a couple volunteer firemen from North of LA who had gone to check out a fire engine somewhere else in the Midwest.

Best hour or so in an airplane I had for years and it wasn't in the air. The fireman were on the end of "escape from the wives" trip paid for by the city. The gay guy was hilarious, the black flight attendant was educated sassy, being the "straight man" for the gay guy. The small town fireman were lobbing tons of good nature crap. The gay guy and the black girl were throwing it right back. The Benz guy dropping dry one liners.

Then the chubby white flight attendant whispers to the black one. They look around like they had just discovered D.B Cooper stuffed in an overhead bin and ask conspiratorially, "You guys want a drink?" They set up a couple rounds on the house for us (not them) and then the Merc guy bought a couple more rounds (rightly so, you are selling Mercs). Everything went up a bit from that point. By the time we got to LAX, we were friends for life -- great time.

Before the ban on smoking in the plane, the back of the plane used to be like that a lot, especially on international flights. Back there smoking and drinking with the stewardesses. Oh, those were the days!

My friends talked me out of trying to be a FA of this stigma. In my mind it was cheap travel and a way to be around women all the time (Staff and Patrons). They said only females and homos do it so I got turned off from the prospects, but reading this confirms what I always thought. I worked in a female heavy environment and they do throw themselves at at you out of their desperate needs for validation, attention, and the need to escape the katty shit women always pull on each other.

I had a buddy, when I worked for the airlines, who went from ground crew to flight. He was from New York, with a thick New York accent, and a massive body builder. He switched just for the reason you are talking about. He always talked about "no competition" and if anyone threw crap at him about being gay ( didn't happen often) he would find a moment to quietly whisper, up close and personal, to the guy who said it on what he thought about the comment. I don't image Al Pacino could have done it better.....

When all things are considered, as long as the flight attendant isn't obese and thus disgusting to look at, I don't really care about their gender, age or weight. I care about food & drink, kindness and precision. If I wanted eye candy, I could probably stash some porn on an iDevice or something.

That said, I do agree that these pictures are a sign of the general decline. I just don't think they are a problem by themselves.

I feel exactly the same way. I don't care that much about the appearance of flight attendants from a personal level as I don't interact with them much regardless. Although it's just an interesting barometer to see the cultural changes that have happened in our society.

At the end of the day, any flight I walk away from in one piece was a good flight.

I was there during the "transition period" in the 80's, when they were moving from the "Looks-based era" to the "EEO era". Sorry to inform you, but it was not about gays, but more about blacks and middle age. The game changed when EEO policies opened the door to black women and allowed middle aged white women to keep their jobs as long as they pleased. The black women brought attitude and the white women and gays took their cue from the sisters, who resented having to "act all nice" to the pudgy white bizmen. That was THE END. They are now overworked, underpaid and angry about it. Be careful not to give them any shit when they treat you like dogs - they will call the cockpit and we will do nothing if we are wheels up. If we are still on the ground - you might want to make alternative arrangement while we are taxing back to the gate to unload you............Have a Nice Flight!

Can't believe no one posted this yet. I saw it when it aired in the U.K. Best part is at :52 seconds.

@LostGringo- We had some pigs on a transatlantic flight with United. They were throwing down food, and openly complaining. A bunch of guys mentioned it in the after flight survey, and shortly afterwards they were replaced with an all male crew. That kinda sucked, but the service was WAY better.
