American TV: The New Roseanne is the Ultimate Shitlord

I tuned in to the new Roseanne reboot the other night and couldn't believe what I was seeing. It wasn't by any means overly funny but it was chock full of shitlording and trolling. I never really watched the original, but for those of you that are unfamiliar the show aired some 20 years ago and it was about a typical midwestern blue collar family. If I recall correctly they were Clinton democrats at the time. The new season, which aired this week, shows the family as ardent deplorable Trump supporters.

The premise of the first season is Roseanne's daughter trying to reunite her with her sister, a miserable barren woman in a Nasty Woman t-shirt and pussy hat. There's plenty of right wing humor including "snowflake" and "safe space" jabs.

Overall, the show was nothing spectacular but I still found it worth watching. I was just shocked to see a sitcom on mainstream television (ABC) showing a famous character ripping on liberals and exposing them for what they are. It was interesting to see how it shows your older generation blue collar democrats and how they transformed to Republican nationalists in our current age.The actress that portrays Roseanne is known as Trump supporter in reality and even got a phone call from the President himself after the episode aired. The premier had a record viewership of 18 million.

As I mentioned in the Trump thread before getting piled on, I agree. The new Roseanne show is good. I've interacted with her on Twitter, she's the real deal.

Some of us have already covered this topic in the Trump thread earlier today, but here it is again.

(((Roseanne))) is (and has always been) just degenerate leftism and "SJWism" in disguise.

Roseanne is the TV sitcom that in the 1980s/1990s pushed the whole concept & image of white people being just fat "white trash" harder than anyone.

Some Examples:

Watch first video until the end where John Goodman says he hates white people

"Parody" of police raid on "white trash" family

Entire episode called "white Trash Christmas"

Interesting point, Merc. I missed the convo in the Trump thread. I didn't see Roseanne or her family being dumb white trash... Rather just regular blue collar folks. They have a nice house and worked all their lives. But I never watched the show back in the 90's.

Years ago Trump got very angry & riled up on his own apprentice TV show with a contestant using the words "white trash".

Now, Trump has forgotten his past values by congratulating this lifelong land whale and her decades long glorification of white trash.
Sad !

It'll be interesting to see if the first episode was just a ruse to get people riled up and watching it, just for it to take a segway after a few episodes to it being about white trash Trump supporters.

...and Roseanne's grandson on the current Roseanne show dresses like a girl.

The (((agenda))) has not changed.

Time to put the obese land whale and her degenerate TV show where they belong.

They ripped off Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I think most are missing the point. They're going to be addressing the cross dressing kid as a family issue needing solving. These are lessons people can use in the household. How so many folks can't see this boggles my mind. Calm the f down.

Just heard about the gender identity BS with her grandson. In the FIRST EPISODE?? Has even Modern Family done this? At least with modern family it's an old white guy that wifes up a Latina hottie and has a chunky son that tries to learn game by compensating with personality and humor.

Ben Shapiro is on the same page as Gorka.

'Roseanne' BLOWS UP In The Ratings. Trump Supporters Cheer. But There's One Really Big Problem For Conservatives.

But there’s something else going on in Roseanne that should disturb conservatives: the redefinition of Trump supporters as blue collar leftists rather than conservatives. Roseanne’s character is pro-gay-marriage, pro-abortion, feminist, and pro-transgenderism — and the implication is that she is a good person because of these views. The real difference between Trump voters and Hillary voters are economic in nature, not cultural.

Follows a trend; I recall someone (Mark Steyn, possibly) using the term "Hollywood Republican" to describe Adam Sandler. It means 'cool with gay marriage and abortion, strong on defending Israel.' Sounds like it could apply to Rosanne.

Now the neighbors in the show are Muslims and they buy a bunch of fertilizer. Of course it was just a mistake and they are a friendly couple. They also go over the top with people being nasty to the Muslims trying to make the viewer feel bad. I didn't think the show would jump the shark this early.

So we have the transgender grandson and the Religion of Peace. Yup - shit..... not much lord except for support of Trump. Same shit with slightly different lessened colors.

The trump support is minor and the sister of Rosanne is what the writers really think. They had a small scene where Goodman lost his job contracting due to implied illegal immigration.

The most disconcerting part of the last episode was when Dan's bid fell through and they couldn't pay their bills. In fact, their wi-fi was turned off. Are we really supposed to believe they've made no financial progress in 20 years? They're still living paycheck to paycheck? With no savings, how will they survive retirement, which is fast approaching? Very depressing.

I've watched all the episodes, and this is one of the most glaring issues. First of all, the kids are all losers. DJ is the closest to being normal. He was drummed out of the military (this happens with perfectly good soldiers due to the up or out policy) but his wife is still in it. Becky is an alcoholic loser slut, and Darlene is a nut job, who wants to accept all kinds of completely out of control behavior from her children. As you mentioned, Dan and Roseanne have apparently remained broke and on the edge of financial ruin the whole time since the original show.

I notice also that the actors are clearly over acting their characters. You'd think the actors could drop back into the roles, but they all clearly are acting their characters in an over the top way that seems uncomfortable to them.

The old series always made a point to represent issues facing blue collar workers. Clearly Rosanne is using the same approach now, and she's using every issue of this type that she can think of. Most families facing these type of issues in real life don't see them from a liberal/conservative viewpoint. They're just trying to deal with their crazy adult kids and messed up grandkids.

It's clearly not the kind of pro-Trump show that a Trump partisan would hope for, but's also not the kind of pure SJW propaganda that most shows are. The fact they even have TV characters sympathetically portray the kind of issues of blue collar working class people face is commendable in my opinion.

Actually, when you think about the retirement issue, something like half or two thirds of people approaching retirement age have no savings at all, and many are still up to their eyeballs in debt. In this sense, while it seems as if the Conner's have screwed up their lives in an unrealistic way, it's actually the statistical norm in America.

I think the show is a little weird to watch due to the somewhat forced acting, and I feel uncomfortable seeing every character portrayed as being so fucked up, but I'm interested to see where they go with it. I think it's good to draw attention to the fact that so many people have at least some of these problems in their lives.
