Rating guys by looks is dumb. Why do you care about how other men look like? Making guys wonder if they're a "5 or a 6" is only going to make them insecure. Yeah looks do matter, but rating guys with numbers can easily make them think they are out of a girls "league" (such a thing does not exist) so they won't approach them.

I suspected that this was the reason for your double standard. My personal opinion is that if a dude starts getting insecure at the mere thought that he is only a 5 or 6 in physical attributes alone, then that dude needs to start working on his self-confidence/self-esteem/inner game.

This is not to say that looks rule everything. I am nowhere near a 9 or 10 (hell, right now, I probably float around the 5 range, truth be told), but I have been able to bang 8's, 9's, and a few 9.5's (I don't think that I have even seen more than 3 or 4 10's in person in my life). There is no reason for me to a) delude myself into thinking that I am a 9 or 10 in looks or b) delude myself into thinking that women don't care about looks. I just know from personal experience that looks are not the ONLY factor in pulling a woman.

The "I'll just ignore how I really look" mentality could explain why I see some PUAs that have clothing, and especially hairstyles that just don't match them. It is like when I see fat guys wearing skinny jeans or guys with plain doughy faces that have hairstyles worn by models with chiseled facial features.

Notice that I didn't say sweet. I also know tons of sweet, shy plain girls that get no attention. However, I know many outgoing, friendly, open, yet physically plain girls that get tons of attention. They just draw guys in. I am surprised that you have never seen that before.

At the same time, I can think of instances of women who are hot, but have horrible personalities that start to look less attractive. If a chick starts being super bitchy, I start noticing all of the flaws in her face and body. It as if her attitude has turned my imperfection radar on overdrive. I know that I am not the only one who has experienced that.

I know from personal experience that no matter how physically hot a woman is there are some things that she can say (besides "I have an STD") that will kill my boner.
