Attack on Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines

My previous respect for Poland has completely cratered after this Russia nonsense. How is it physically possible for a country to be that incredibly stupid???

At least Germany can be excused because it was brutally occupied and genocided after WW2. Poland, on the other hand, literally whored itself out for a couple of donuts from USA.

And Poland were brutally occupied and genocided during and after WW2 by both Germans and Russians. Until '89 we were under Soviet indirect occupation (last Soviet/Russian troops left Poland in '93). During communist times, people would flee to the USA risking major repercussion from the government, because it was THE paradise. Having a father or an uncle that somehow managed to get to America was like a gift from God as he would send money and stuff that was impossible to get in Poland then. Others would envy you if even a distant relative of yours was in the USA. You have to understand that when communism fell, virtually every single Pole thought that the USA is a shining beacon of freedom and justice.

The problem is, that was 30 and more years ago but our 'elites' still think (or are paid to think) the USA is the symbol of virtuosity and selflessness while Russia is the ultimate evil empire that is going to annihilate us any minute. Unfortunately, most Poles also have this caricature-like understanding of geopolitics. Poland might be more based than your average Western country but the trajectory is the same, just with a delay.

Since we now have a thread dedicated to this incident, I'll copy my post from the "Economic effects of the Russo-Ukrainian War" thread. I think it's rather important:

Who Will Rid Me of This Meddlesome Pipeline?

Sometimes it takes a little while, but the Corner gets results, even in matters of geopolitical energy. Way back in February 22, under the headline, “Nice New Pipeline You’ve Got There. Shame If Something Happened to It,” I wrote of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline:

"Still, halting the certification process is a temporary stop; the pipeline is still there, constructed, waiting to be used. It is not difficult to envision a scenario where the German government finds some excuse to reopen the certification process and start using the pipeline, after issuing the appropriate pro forma objections to Putin’s actions. Up until very recently, the German government didn’t seem all that troubled by the thought of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. And as Elliott Abrams laid out, the two most recent German chancellors, Gerhard Schröder and Angela Merkel put a lot of political capital into the Nord Stream 2 project.

Of course, if something happened to make the Nord Stream 2 pipeline unusable, it is a different story. Hey, what is Andreas Malm doing these days? Where are those eco-radicals when we really need them?"

Who will rid me of this meddlesome pipeline? Sounds like someone listened!

"Europe was racing on Tuesday to investigate possible sabotage behind sudden and unexplained leaks in two Russian gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea, infrastructure at the heart of an energy crisis since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the leaks were caused by sabotage, while Denmark’s prime minister and Russia, which slashed its gas deliveries to Europe after Western sanctions, said it could not be ruled out. But who might be behind any foul play, if proven, and a motive were far from clear.

Sweden’s Maritime Authority issued a warning about two leaks in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, the day after a leak on the nearby Nord Stream 2 pipeline was discovered that prompted Denmark to restrict shipping and impose a small no fly zone. . . .

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said sabotage could not be ruled out. “We are talking about three leaks with some distance between them, and that’s why it is hard to imagine that it is a coincidence,” she said.

A second European source, when asked if there was specific intelligence indicating sabotage, said: “Not specific yet, but it seems this pressure failure can only happen when a pipe is completely cut. Which pretty much says it all.”

Three leaks in two days? Wow, that’s a shame! Sounds like the pipeline’s falling apart and just won’t be a reliable way to get natural gas from Russia to Germany. I guess hopes of Germany and Russia eventually putting aside their differences over the invasion of Ukraine and reestablishing long-term German dependence on Russian energy just won’t happen for the foreseeable future. Just terrible luck for Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin, who clearly thought a cold winter with limited energy supplies would make Germany and other European countries come crawling back to the negotiating table.

Just about anyone could have cut the pipeline, but whoever it was, they wanted to make sure the Nord Stream pipelines would not be an option for a long time.

Little known eastern European energy sector trivia - in 2021 when Biden administration rescinded the Trump era sanctions from NS2, Sikorski not only applauded that decision, but he called the NS2 a purely commercial project (with no political strings attached) and even insisted that Poland should join the venture as a financial partner.

It appears that the Russians not only know that the USA sabotaged the two natural gas pipelines to Germany, but they know which US Navy ship was responsible and how the attack was carried out.

An expeditionary detachment of US Navy ships led by the universal amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge days ago was in the Baltic Sea. It was 30 km from the site of the alleged sabotage on the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline and 50 km from the threads of Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

On September 2, interesting maneuvers performed by an American helicopter with the call sign FFAB123. Then it was assumed that this board was from the USS Kearsarge air wing, and today more details were looked. According to the website http://ads-b.nl , this call sign was used by 6 boards that day, of which we managed to establish the side numbers of three. All of them are Sikorsky MH-60S.

By superimposing the FFAB123 route on the scheme of yesterday’s accident, we get a rather interesting result — the helicopter either flew along the Nord Stream-2 highway, or even between the points where the accident occurred.

And finally, we need to pay attention to the June article in Sea Power, where the Americans brag about experiments in the field of underwater drones, which they put on exercises BALTOPS 22 — just in the area of the island of Bronholm. And YES,there was US military training there.

Meanwhile, the Baltic Pipe project is going live, shipping natural gas from Denmark to Poland, and will be running at full capacity at the end of November.

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Energinet notified the gas market that the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline can be commissioned at full capacity from the end of November 2022, a little more than one month before planned. Energinet planned to commission Baltic Pipe with partial capacity from October 1, 2022, and with full capacity of up to 10 billion cubic metres of gas annually from January 1, 2023.

The most logical explanation for the Nord Stream attacks is that the US Navy destroyed the pipeline in order to prevent Germany from surrendering to Russia, and making it dependent on Poland instead. And since all four referendums went Russia’s way, it would appear that we’ll find out what Russia’s response is within the next 3-4 weeks.

UPDATE: Some Eastern European countries are clearly expecting conflict in the near future.

Poland and Bulgaria’s foreign ministries are recommending all of their citizens leave Russia by any means possible.

Hopefully Trump's posting on the matter is only a way to smear Biden and he doesn't genuinely believe we're on the cusp of yet another "meat grinder" great war in which many of our brothers needlessly murder one another.

I do wonder how this current level of tension compares to what it must have been like during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s. It feels like everyone in the country right now with at least one ear to the wall is just waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.

If this is the USA, Biden needs to be impeached for High Crimes (international terrorism). Anyone else involved in the planning and execution including CIA and DOD officials need to be tried in The Hague and hung.

If Russia determines this is the US I expect a a strong response but probably not quickly and after some calculation.

They seem to be following a slower chess endgame strategy where they are grinding out the victory in Ukraine and the winning strategic advantages vs. the west.

"'Play the opening like a book, the middle game like a magician, and the endgame like a machine."
