In Austria, large numbers of people have once again taken to the streets against the Corona measures. According to police, around 20,000 people gathered at a rally on Saturday at Vienna's Heldenplatz. The head of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), Herbert Kickl, called for resistance against the compulsory vaccination planned to take effect in February. He said this measure, as well as the indefinite lockdown for the unvaccinated, was an "assault on humanity." "This government is acting sadistically," Kickl told his supporters. The government, with the support of four of the five parliamentary parties, plans to make vaccination mandatory in preparation against further Corona waves. There are heavy penalties for vaccination refusers.
Update: According to police estimates, 44,000 people took part in Saturday's protest rally. However, past estimates of the executives have shown that in reality one can assume double the number.
