I watched this Nomad Capitalist video today. A pretty good case for having a plan B, his discussion caters to the wealthy. That said, one nugget I found particularly interesting: Get your 2nd residence going now. Papers etc.
When I was in colombia 3 years back, I actually considered buying a little condo and getting my residency. If I hit a certain threshold value with my purchase, I would receive citizenship as long as I returned once / year over 5 years (something that is difficult now).
But there are other ways to establishing residency. Perhaps enrolling in a course in an educational institution there, simply applying for a work permit or to emigrate, investment visas etc.
For all the talk of moving (which I fully support), we should also be thinking of first steps to establish grounds for a move. Ultimately, it's just as easy to go somewhere and make your case from that country, but you can also begin your case from home.
