I thought someone would mention rutracker by now. It uses torrents, but it a damn good resource. Of course check everything with yalls anti virus first. And don't use uTorrent! I think they save ip adresses.

What about bittorrent?

People recomend qbittorrent or deluge.
If you do a search for uTorrent and mpaa, you will find that it was either bought or it has a lot of ads.
there is a reddit thread of people recommending clients https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2j5qqg/brothers_please_stop_using_utorrent/

Spotify is like a tenner a month. If you like music it's a no brainer. You can save your favourite songs for offline use too.

If I downloaded everything I wanted to listen to from torrents it would cost me far more in terms of my time.

I 100% agree for individual songs. Now, for old albums, torrents are really good, especially if you are looking for lossless rips of old albums to send to a cd.

For example, I was looking for a copy of Sade's Diamond Life, UK press, and it took about 40 minutes to an hour from download to cd. I had to convert from a video format to wma, which took a long time for many gigs worth of data. However .flac rips will take 10 mins from download to cd tops.

Yeah, rutracker is a great website. Imo the best one from all ratioless/open trackers. I have an account there for 7 years. On top of that I use a few Private Trackers, which you can get only by invite and gotta say, they are content paradise.
As for uTorrent - I use older version(<2.0.4), but any older than 3.0 is still a great piece of software and without loads of additional, useless stuff that 3.0+ versions got.
Alternatively rTorrent cause this is the client, that shells have installed.
By the way, I would advise against using public trackers without prior protection - seedboxes for example, which you can find for 15-20$/monthly.

Youtube + a downloader addon in your browser.

I don't understand why people even download music anymore.

I used to hoard music a decade ago.

Now I just stream it on Spotify, Pandora, etc - it's way easier, you can like and replay songs and make your own playlist and customize a channel by adding your favorite bands.

No need to wait on downloading an album or uploading them onto an iPhone or mp3 player.

Yeah but this works only from mainstream music. If you're leastening to fringe artists you can't find them on Pandora, etc. But you'll find them on Youtube, most often.

Have some respect for the artists and don't download... Stream it, it's still peanuts for the artists but it's better then nothing.

If you want to broaden your horizon there are tons of free music to be found on bandcamp of budding artists.

Use google:
site:bandcamp.com/album "name your price" genreyoulike

There's a lot of crap on bandcamp too of course :) but a lot of golden stuff too
