Been looking at taking a TEFL cert class in Asia and possibly moving to Thailand or Vietnam to work. May also try to get a real office job or IT job if they exist for expats.

Would love to here advice on the best places to live in Thailand or Vietnam?

I liked Patong in Phuket. But have heard good things about other parts of Phuket. Not really into Bangkok. How are the Thai islands to live and teach English, saw some teaching jobs on the islands but is living on a small island too remote? I also hear Vietnam is an up and coming economy with a lot of manufacturing moving there from China. Is Ho Chi Min city better than Hanoi?

Saigon is a crazy busy and loud city. If that's okay with you, it has everything you need. If you want a large city with plenty of job opportunities but also a bit more chill, you could look into beach towns like Nha Trang or Da Nang. Hanoi isn't quite as hectic as Saigon, and more traditional/conservative. It really depends upon what you're looking for.

I'm not familiar with Thailand, so I can't speak to it.

Having done the teaching in Asia stint, I'd advise everyone against it now.

Too many 30+ year olds returning home to the West with nothing to show for it, and professionally/developmentally far behind their peers.

"Real" office jobs there are only given to employees from within the company before they expatriate. Already being in the country confers no advantage to you.
