that it focused on black Americans was refreshing (for me), as white British guy.
40% of British people are white men. I've watched most Black Mirror episodes, I'd say 10% of them have white men as protagonists who are not villains. Is that refreshing? Why so excited about an ethnic group on the other side of the world, who incidentally get plenty of pop culture and media coverage, replacing your own ethnicity in this TV series?
Just reanswering this as I don't think I properly addressed it. Perhaps my use of the word "refreshing" was irksome, as it's one of those adjectives that appears in SJW articles:"It was so refreshing to play X and
feel represented as a queer, black, lesbian, demi-cripple". If this episode was set in Sheffield and was starring Denzel Washington and Idris Elba, then I could see your point. However, it was set in a nondescript US urban centre, with a subset of a ethnic/demographic group British viewers don't often see (middle class black families), so 'interesting' is perhaps a better adjective.
Lastly, regarding white men in TV shows. Think of the most popular TV series of the past 15-20 years... The Sopranos, Lost, Deadwood, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Vikings, Last Kingdom. All have many white male protagonists, or at least antiheroes in the case of the criminally themed shows. Yeah, some of these are 20 years old, but they're still beloved and rewatched today. Movies are a better place to look if you want to find an agenda, totally bereft of creativity so supplant it with intersectionality, resulting in garbage like that Captain Marvel shite, which I hand on heart can say I will never watch.
