1) Social media control where everyone can rate anyone and the ones with the highest social media scores win the game getting perks, prices and better jobs. This is already being implemented in China! The people get negative scores for being non-PC or even associating with non-PC people online or real life!

You can already see this in the United States with Yelp and seasoned Yelpers getting discounts, etc. at restaurants for positive, weighted reviews. I appreciated the nuance of this episode in the fact that not all 5-stars are equal, e.g. a 5-star from someone of lower standing doesn't carry the safe effect as a 5-star from one with a higher standing. Pretty much quantifying years of clique social conditioning.

Lots of nuanced humor in that first episode, too - the airport security, the sad 'bloop' of the outdated rental car, etc.

Just watched the first episode of season 3 - absolutely incredible. It feels like we might be 5 years or less away from that, with google glass type tech rather than contact lenses.

watched the first two eps of season three. First one is brilliant, second one is decent. Such a worthwhile series, one of the best sci fi shows of all time.

Damn! Can't wait, there are still a few episodes from Season 1&2 that pop into my head to haunt me.

Such a clever show.

Watched second episode of the third season. Mindblown, IMO its on par with White Christmas. Regarding the first one, yeah, that shit is gonna probably be integrated in society sooner or later.

The one with the two lesbians was really good. I like how they made every era real as hell, the 1990's and early aughts had me reminiscing....

All I'm saying is that I think some people on here think Brooker is sympathetic to what we talk about here...when he is actually on the opposing team when it comes to feminism and stuff like that.

I don't think he's really on any particular team. I think it's quite possible for someone to be sympathetic to parts of the world view expressed here and hostile to others.

You mean intelligent discrimination about ideas?

We can start doing that by abandoning absurdly vague, subjective epithets like "SJW", "Liberal", "Conservative" and "wing-nut" ( my personal favorite.).

They have as much descriptive precision as "Counter-revoloutionary" did in Stalin or Mao's day.

They provide nothing to on which to base concrete and productive policy discussions and are only useful as name-calling tools.

Thanks for the tip, I think Twilight Zone was probably the best TV show ever.

Something that really rubbed me the wrong way in Episode 3 (Shut Up and Dance) is the implication that any man who is nice to kids (the guy giving the girl the toy in the beginning) could be a pedophile. There's already enough of that climate and this shit doesn't help.

Other than that, like the seasons before, this one is highly entertaining but about as subtle as a sledgehammer and doesn't really offer any substantial insight into anything except "technology scary". Certain concepts like all the social media stuff are starting to get really repetitive too (and arguably SUAD is a retread of White Bear). Hoping for more creativity for the next one.

I very much agree, this season just does not have the same terrifying subtleties as the others. Season 1 and 2 didn't have to resort to clichees in the same way. It's not all that creative either. Season 1 had some really disturbing episodes like the one with the black guy and rest in this consumerist dystopia.

I thought Episode 1 had a good premise, but stuck to clichees and a happy ending. Episode 2 was full of clichees, obtuse and didn't really say much about tech either way. Episode 3 (lesbian romance?), was not a tech episode at all.

He jerked off to pictures of young kids, not a pedophile?

The point is that the scene where he gives back the toy was supposed to foreshadow the pedophilia twist. Which is ridiculous.

Ah, that is what are you talking about. Regarding that, I can't really make up my mind, maybe it was intentional foreshadowing, maybe just a some sort of implant to make us believe he really is a "nice guy".

The only indication we got that he jerked off to pictures of kids was his mom at the end. The hackers fucked them all over equally, and knew that he wouldn't really have any backlash from just masturbation.

I read that bit as just them fucking him over a bit more. But I suppose it could be him being a pedo, but I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure he was meant to be a pedo all along. His complete overreaction to the video being released made it clear. Besides, the whole point of the episode is vigilante justice and the idea that we are sympathizing with someone who turns out to be a horrible person in the end. All of them did something wrong and they were definitely not fucked over equally - since only the pedos had to fight to the death.

I am not as impressed by S3 as I was with S1. S1 has some episodes that fucked with my head for years. This season, not much.

Perhaps I need to walk down to the neighborhood dispensary. Last time around that got the brain juices flowing and had my imagination pinned at 11.

Still, brilliant show. Hope to finish it this week.

*edit: And yes the teenager was a pedo. In the car scene, the guy was like "the fuck kid, who cares? Everyone whacks it. In my case, they will take away my kids!!!!"

But the kid was terrified. He knew it was not so simple and he would go to prison.

Frankly the one with the escort did the least wrong. That is why you get a woman and make it clear that fucking other women is part of the deal - if she wants, then she gets to be part of a threesome, but no more.

The rest is the usual desperation that divorced men feel since wives have them by the balls in our system.
