Meanwhile, in Toronto, clear skies and no snow in the forecast. I swear we haven't been hit by a major blizzard in years while you guys have been snowed in several times since, thinking about Buffalo's stupid amount of snow last year and now this... not living up to the Canadian snow stereotype here.

In NYC now, we're getting hit pretty hard. I had new girl from SeekingArrangement last night, woke up and saw a shit load of snow outside. Had her take the subway home, now I'm at home working. Supposed to meet another SA girl tonight during the blizzard but it looks like she'll probably cancel. I guess avoiding snow is more important to her than going to pound town.

There were a lot of crazy drivers out around midnight. Thankfully most everybody has wised up and decided to stay off the road. My dad spent 3 out his 6 years in the Army stationed in Germany. He said that the government would close the roads to all drivers until the snow stopped. They experienced a blizzard every New Year. He was there during the Vietnam War. Not a crazy idea to close the roads out of common sense and safety.

And the worse the UK ever has is few inches

Its actually warm here where I am.

You see FG, England is a tropical paradise in comparison to New England.

Think of it, England sent over its undesirables to the new world. Folks like the puritans and other religious separatists lived in a veritable frozen hell. England in comparison is wet, but incredibly mild.

Any time I hear someone complain about how miserable and dreary English weather is, I want to air drop them into New England and then the snow belt in late January. Idiots don't know how good they have it.

Having grown up in a state where we seldom got snow days it's funny to see people freaking out over all this snow here in Virginia. Back home most people would just hop in the truck and drive to town.

Here in Jersey the snow just isn't stopping at all. We've got about a foot of snow so far. Good thing I'm stocked up on some liquor, food, and hot cocoa.

I'm already noticing some of the older crowd on my Facebook feed saying things like "It's not as bad as the weathermen said! I've seen worse!"

These are the dottering old fools who venture out in snowstorms and

1). Screw up the snowplows by getting stuck

2). Cause your power to go out when they skid and smash into transformers

3). Waste time, money, and energy by having to be saved when they inevitably get stuck.

Therefore, I am calling on any lawmaker reading this to put forth a bill than bans anyone over age 50 (yes, 50) from driving anytime there is more than six inches of snow on the ground. We don't need a bunch of idiots thinking they can drive in this because they have misguided memories of the blizzard of 1996 or whatever. Stay the fuck home.

Man my blood is boiling over this. Traffic cameras show NO ONE on any of the roads in the DC region, yet the Metamucil Morons think it's time to go for a nice weekend drive. God help me.

I grew up in New England and have always owned a 4x4 fullsize truck. Driving in snow is just part of the game. Now amount of downfall has ever scared me away from getting out of the house if I feel like it, and I've never gotten stuck or in an accident.

The retards driving 2wd cars and mid-sized pickups in white out conditions going too fast. Those are the idiots you're talking about. Don't go out in the weather if you're not equipped to handle it - physically or mentally.

Anyway I'm in Denver and it's been 60 the past couple days. Going to be in the 60's next week too. :sleepy:

I feel ya. Like you say everyone thinks they are God's gift when it comes to driving in snow. Chains are where it's at, with chains and a front wheel drive car you can get around in a few inches of snow nicely, especially on hills where 4wds struggle for grip. Traction is king, snow chains and front wheel drive will outperform a 4wd on icy hardpack (driven on) snow. Fresh snow and good mud tyres the 4WD comes out on top, and 4WD with snow chains on all wheels is pretty much unstoppable.

4WD with studs in the tyres is what I run, because we don't get snow much here and it's much easier to leave the studs for a few wintry weeks than mess about removing the chains whenever you come to a cleared section of road.

The roads I am seeing on TV do not have that much snow on them. Not enough to slow me down much at all and I just have all seasons on my Avalanche.

NYC shutting down all travel shows itself to be a socialist enclave.

I'd rather drop those moaning dickheads into the Tornado alleys and Hurricane areas. Thats the type of weather you can shit yourself in, not the "oh its dreary better stay in bed" weather.

Pussies.

Over 20" here as well. Holed up with girl. She's been cooking various things through out the day. And cleaning.

Snowblower makes an amazing difference when clearing driveway. Helped an elder neighbor across the street clear her driveway along with some others.

Going to a neighborhood blizzard party shortly. I doubt Monday is going to be fully operational.

Hurricanes are just really bad thunderstorms.

Snow tires are a requirement if you live in the north east. I would never go through a winter without them.

I've had good luck with high performance all season tires in DC. Doesn't snow enough here to warrant snow tires. But it's really important to make sure tires are inflated and have sufficient tread left. A lot of people are riding on nearly bald tires.

Same. Also, kitty litter saved my ass a few times. Pour it under your drive wheels and slowly put the power on. If it doesn't work, you can always try your floor mats.
