I'm a sucker skinny bitches with long legs and phat asses. Suffice to say I am very happy about this trend 
This shift to ass isn't new, the NYT is pretty late in reporting this. A lot girls who previously would only do cardio and "group fitness" classes started hitting the squat rack around a year ago. Around the same time the most popular hipster bar in my (hipster capital) city started running weekly twerk lessons (on top of their dance classes) that became the talk of the town. People started talking about whether or not Nicki Minaj had butt implants. "Fitness blogger" chicks working hard on their butts and getting huge attention for their butt pics. Instagram hotties with big butts started becoming mini-celebrities. When Fancy topped the charts and a lesbian bitch I know started gushing to me about Iggy's booty, that is when I knew we were about to reach critical mass. And then the Anaconda video came along...
You'd have to have been living under a rock not to notice this until now, fat asses have entered the respectable white mainstream.

If you're not careful, it's easy to conflate two similar but distinct trends:
1. Asses as a sexual focus.
2. Big juicy phat asses over little ones.
The NYT is definitely conflating the two. And while #1 is already here, we have some ways to go before #2 is dominant. Without #1 in place, #2 will not happen. But plenty of people, especially white girls who think big asses are gross or ghetto, are stuck on #1 and not yet at #2.
Also, I definitely see a generational trend of older women, 35+ conceiving of their tits as the erogenous zone of choice while it's the ass for younger girls.
I would disagree with you - phat asses have entered the mainstream white consciousness, but they have yet to attain respectability, let alone high status. You can bet that otherwise hot white girls will snark on white girls with phat asses.
We need a bunch of high profile white celebrities and athletes that choose white, big booty girlfriends and wives. And I specifically say white on white because if the girl or the guy in the couple is black, white girls will quickly dismiss it as 'a black people thing' or 'he justs like black girls.'
And Kate Upton as a popular female celebrity with a mediocre ass, is our greatest enemy...

I can't help but notice that white cats usually never look at girls asses as much as Hispanic and Black guys. I don't think i've ever recall seeing a white guy look back at a passing girl with an ass, but i've seen it a lot with Hispanics and Blacks.
Could it be the culture? Has anybody else notice this or is it just me?

Because we have developed having a vice for that. We know what it feels like letting them ride and smash down on top of us with that ass and that pressure. We got suckered into that stuff and almost all of us still are.

The focus on the butt is one of convenience for today's females. They've gotten much fatter and the ass is the one place you can point to as a positive when you gain weight as a woman.
If anything, I think this is a sign we're devolving into a Third World society (there was a previous thread on here long ago about this, so it's not my idea).
The way I see it is like this:
Butts: signify the primal and are preferred by very low class men and women.
Breasts: signify the maternal and are the preference of men from blue collar backgrounds who might be insecure and looking for mother figures (i.e. "I don't care if she's fat -- look at them boobs!").
Legs: long legs are a sign of good breeding and point to classiness in a woman.
Legs were a big deal in the 1980s. But we had a different society and different breed of woman back then. They were bred to be leaner, for one thing. Back then, a fat girl making a video like "All About That Bass" would have been laughed out of town. Now she's a celebrity.
This is not the sign of a society that's healthy -- in any sense of that word.
I'm all for slumming, but to see the entire country go in this direction is disheartening. It's also annoying when The New York Times puts its stamp of approval on a trend. There's usually an ulterior motive. See my sentence #1 for that motive.
Addendum: I forgot to mention large asses don't age well. Having seen my female classmates grow older ("My eyes, my eyes!!") I can tell you what's "hotttt" in that area at 18 becomes scary once the woman in question has pumped out a kid or three. You've been warned.

Northern European bros, have you noticed a lot more ass on girls? I have been back and either my tastes have changed - noticing girls with bigger asses more, or a lot of young girls really have more ass. I see a lot more round big asses on the street, still with flat shoes and jeans instead of heels and tight skirts, but I'm not complaining.
