this is fucking ridiculous, outside of the olympics this is the most watched event all over the world.

No way. Football (i.e. Soccer) World Cup is the biggest event by miles. And not far behind it are the European Cup, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

The reason these are so followed because South America and Africa all play lots of soccer and their players are poached by the European Clubs - same reason NHL is followed in Eastern Europe.

And us Americans give zero fucks about soccer for the most part.

The rest of the world says we are too full of ourselves. Yes, we are full of ourselves. It's part of being proud of who you are.

I do not see a problem with being full of oneself.

It's part of being a man.

btw- I'm glad the Ravens won. Fucking hate the Niners.

Green Bay Packers- 13 championships. Still and always on top.

This must be some sort of American propaganda you have bitten. Nobody cares about your superbowl outside America.

The rest of the world is far more interested in the real football. You know the one where you kick the ball with your feet - hence the name - football. The worlds cup in football is what the world likes to see outside of Olympics.

American football and baseball are two sports artificially kept popular in America, while pretty much no one around the world is interested in them, they are fringe sports. Therefore Americans appear to be totally dominating these sports and this rises the national pride.

I didn't mean to insult anyones patriotic feelings, but if you consider yourself a red pill person then you must realize that American culture is pulling wool over the eyes of its citizens in more ways then just pushing feminism and shaming marrying foreign wives. There are tons of other subtle methods.

Football is kept popular in the US artificially?

Really?

We have options. If we want to watch soccer we can.

For the most part, we do not.

Not because football is stuffed down our throats. Instead, we can't get enough of it.

To play into the stereotypes, we Americans love violence.

Soccer isn't very violent.

Hell, Ray Lewis killed two people! :D

The best propaganda is obviously the one where the people don't perceive it as propaganda, but perceive it as their own choice. When you seduce a girl - you make her feel that it was her own desire don't you?

But don't misunderstand me. There is nothing wrong with American football and baseball. Keep watching and playing these sports if you like. I am sure they are good sports. Just understand that it doesn't make you great in my eyes or in the eyes of the world. It only makes you great in your eyes and bragging about superbowl as the most watched sport worldwide besides Olympics comes off as just empty bragging. Bragging about American football being superior to the world's football because it is more violent also comes off as a mere bragging.

If you have any masterity in game then you know that bragging is a bad strategy. No girl likes a guy who brags about things she doesn't actually care. And when an American starts bragging about things no one else is actually interested in and especially if he uses false facts like Superbowl being the second most popular event outside Olympics than he just looks like a drunken braggart. And this is one of reasons why many people don't like Americans.

The more someone brags about how great his big country or his big corporation is the more he comes off as just an arrogant little cogwheel guy who has nothing personal to be proud of. Nobody likes that.

It also makes you look very ignorant. It is like a guy who has never traveled saying that the whole world marvels at the beauty, femininity, power and liberation of American women.

You'd have more chance of influencing the plotline of a soap opera compared to a football match, so why do people get so worked up about sports teams?

My view: Sports teams = ego investment. Otherwise why not support whoever's winning or losing depending on your preference for champions or underdogs?

Irrelevant at the present. America is still on top enough that this method of discourse is still effective.

Like a fat chick at a sausage-fest, America can be a bitch because the rest of the room still wants to bang her. But the wall is approaching.

I didn't realize I was bragging...

Americans don't care for soccer.

I don't care for soccer.

That's just how it is.

Formula 1 is huge the world over.

I like it.

Most Americans do not.

Whatever. Watch what you like.

Edit- I really get a kick out of the guys that equate enjoying sports with being beta....

America is more like an unattractive beta provider. Everyone wants to marry it and then divorce ASAP. Or like an old rich guy. Your wife and your relatives say polite things to you but actually they hope you just die...

GBG the halftime show is a bone we throw to females for participating with their husbannds and boyfriends for watching the game. NO GUY LOOKS FORWARD TO IT. As for the other posters who want to hate on american football, i grew up playing soccer and continue to watch it here in mexico and it just plain sucks as a spectator sport. it will never be popular to american audiences. shit, unless i watch a live game or i am drunk, sitting with friends soccer gets old real quick. it is hard to justify watching a 90 minute game and no one wins or worse yet no one scores which i have also seen. in american football, especially in the superbowl the game often it is a fight to the finish and its usually exciting to watch. its fair to criticize the ammount commercials but they are usually funny to watch and if the rules are confusing learn them as there are not that many to the game.

The halftime show really fucking sucked. All those women trying to act like men.

Pathetic.

You know men who shake their asses like that? Maybe you're hanging out in the wrong bars.

If you watch sports to see a mix of athleticism, talent, creative genius, hard-hitting physicality, drive and determination, drama and excitement, and intense competitive struggle where actions have meaningful consequences there is no better sport than NFL gridiron football.

If you watch sports to see half hour chunks of offensive futility and faked injuries likely to result in a tie game look no further than the highest levels of association football.

Even though the Ravens are one of Cincinnati's rivals in the AFC North, I'm still glad they won. I've hated the 49ers since I was a kid.

I also really enjoyed this commercial:

Did you get gang raped while visiting America? You talk about it a lot for someone who hates it so much.
