Do you have low testosterone?

You have to understand most doctors are in the business of damage control. If they are GPs they are somewhat prevention oriented, but only towards specific traditional illness, not towards the process of AGING. New philosophical views among SOME doctors are that aging is an illness which is partly preventable, partly by T therapy.

Let's face it "natural" aging is a nightmare. You end up a wrinkled, stooped over, incontinent, impotent prune. So any way you can delay that, most people would trade a year of prune-status for six months more of feeling/looking good status, if it does come to that. It may be that prolonging youthfulness also delays infirmity, that it's a win-win.

So you have to get with someone who has anti-aging philosophy. There's a mainstream associations now, The Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

In big cities they sometimes want to soak you, be your "concierge" for 200+ per month without even seeing you. Some lower cost NP will prescribe T if you explain you were already on it and show them the bottle. I'm seeing a nurse practitioner in Norcal for 60 a visit out of pocket and getting bottles of drops of "bio-identical" (whatever that means) hormones for about $25 per month supply. THis is NOT the stuff that helps you bulk, just to get your old man levels up.

Last time I was in the US I looked into HRT a bit and saw a lot of clinics advertising "men's health screenings", which included measuring testosterone and other hormones. It sounds like HRT is fairly well accepted and accessible in the USA so if you are living there I don't see any reason to try to self-prescribe, especially given the risks of shutting down your own T production.

Outside the US, HRT seems to be off the radar and it seems like it is going to be much harder to find a good dr and get supplements. I'm going to start measuring now (only measured 1x a few years ago) and consider supplements after 40/45.

I recently got a blood test to check my test levels to set a baseline. My total testosterone was in the normal range ~700 ng/dl, but my free testosterone was flagged as low(I'm 24). I feel fine and have no problems banging multiple times in a night. I'm not sure what's causing the low free test level, I'll have to do more research, maybe it was just a fluke.\

Europe is in the stone age when it comes down to HRT. Even South American and Asian Countries are more advanced when it comes to this.

For example, if you score just above the reference range, the doctor will tell you that it's all in your head and that nothing is going on. I've heard countless of horror stories from guys in the UK so most of them just self medicate. If you live in Thailand or Mexico you can also get them without a prescription so thats easy as well

Nice replies, i would be glad if someone could throw me some advise.

I tend to feel tired and weak when i dont work out for a day or two (it gets worse the less i work out), when i didnt work out years ago, i used to feel tired and weak most of the time, i wonder what is my problem.

I doubt that this is Low T because i am usually a very horny guy, so horny that i need to have sex everyday. If i dont have sex for a day, i masturbate and that shit fucks up my day because it gives me low energy and i don't become so productive. I used to blame part of the tiredness on masturbation but today i found it weird that i haven't masturbated in the last few days and i felt kinda tired and weak (today), maybe because i didnt work out today but i doubt a normal person will feel tired and weak because he didn't work out for a day.

Can anybody suggest me something? I really wish my level of energy was better.

Im using mucuna pruriens, also known as velvet bean, in powdered from this ayurvedic herbs company. From what ive researched it has a host of benefits including testosterone improvements, muscle growth, bone density and better mood. Ive uses it for 3 days now and I feel alot more driven now. Dont know if its a placebo effect but we'll see as time progresses.

Try and control your sexual energy. Try a month or two where your only way to release is through sex. So that might leave you days/weeks depending on your current situation without it.

Sexual energy build up is what you are looking for. This will give you increased energy, stronger workouts, and more intense sex.

Been through this for many years and tried testosterone therapy. Basically it's not worth it! You get easily get testosterone prescribed and get it up into 900-1200 in about a week. See if you like it. Your body will stop naturally produce testosterone and starts producing estrogen instead. You will develop female tits if you continue using Testosterone. You will also absorb lots of it in your hair follicles and eventually start balding. Your skin will take a hit and you will look much older.
You body makes enough T. There is actually no NORMAL reading....everyone is different.
It's safe though to try it for a week or two.

Got a link to studies supporting your claims?

I see an internist who uses TRT on himself. He prefers HCG (Human Chorionic Gonandotropin) and compounded Testosterone gel, absorbed through the skin.

I tell men wondering "if I have low-T?" to do a month's trial on some herbal known to adjust Testosterone/estradiol levels first. (Weight lifting sites are filled with discussions about both how to diagnose and treat it - some of which may apply to you.)

For example, the bark called Tribulus Terrestris (sp?) can increase T.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulus_terrestris
Buy it fresh at GNC, and take four times a day for a few weeks.

Likewise, Tongak Ali capsules can affect estradiol levels, thus increasing the positive T-levels profile. (Sourcing Tongak Ali can be dodgier, but I know a website that helps sort out the good and reliable from the bad, leading to the best prices.)

The point is that if you get a good benefit from OTC herbs like these, then you ought to go off them and find a doctor to test and treat your situation well. Otherwise, you're just wasting time and money with guess work.

I have a book for you. I don't know to get it to you but we can work something out. The book is called [correction] The Hour Between Dog and Wolf and it is all about testosterone. It focuses on Wall Street traders and explains the biology that is going in their bodies as they undergo risk, have periods of success, and face periods of loss. The form is a RAR file that decompresses to an EPUB doc. Firefox has an add on that will read it straight from the browser. I used an online RAR decompression utility and it worked fine. I am reading the book right now.

This is an excellent book.

I am on my second reading of it. There's so much information to grasp the first time around, it's worth sitting on it for a few months then reading it again. The book is so interesting that this isn't a problem.

Whilst the backdrop is Wall Street for the story and how trading the markets affects human physiology, it is well-written so that even if you're not familiar with the workings of hedge funds and investment banks you still understand it.

What's more he applies the science behind it to various sports scenarios too.

The book gives a great insight into how the human body works, and how different parts interact via highly complex chemical reactions. You find yourself reading and getting many 'aha' moments when he explains the reasoning behind the many habitual things that we do on a daily basis.

Above all it did reinforce to me the notion of our brains becoming experts at certain subjects, provided it has enough experience in it - i.e. practice makes perfect. And why when you're on a winning streak it feels like you can never come down and vice versa.

Recommended reading for everyone.

I had a physical when I was around 46-47 and my testosterone was low. Since then I get a shot every three weeks. Costs me around $30 a pop. It makes difference and apparently receiving injections is better than taking testosterone tablets.

Bump...I did a morning testosterone test last week and sent it in. Got it back yesterday...75 pg/mL

The chart said it's low but normal, but if I'm understanding correctly, that's incredibly low. 75 pg/mL = 75 ng/dL.

WTF any input fellas?

Edit: If you look at me, you'd never think low T. I'm about as cut as they come naturally, and with lifting, I have muscle definition and the coveted V-look. (I'm speaking from a point of humility here, obviously I tested my T for a reason, and I'm admitting it's low, so my point is not to brag.)

Edit2: I've found in my life T levels are just like "alpha"...very situational (except for a small % of population). When I feel like I'm in-fucking-charge, I can feel the T pumping. I suspect my T levels are a sign of my life right now, which is at a job I don't like, sitting all day, which comprises 40 hrs of my life per week.

I ordered some "Andro-Plus" that you see advertised on different blogs to be delivered to me here in Peru. I've started up crossfit again, and with the T gel, when it gets here, I'm hoping that will be the missing link. I need something, I still feel like an old ass man. I can only ever go one round a night with my girl. After I just want to sleep.

Anyone know anything about andro plus or tried it? I'm a bit skeptical but figured it's worth a try. Aside from a couple blog posts there's no mention of that company on any T or lifting forums or anywhere else I've looked.
